This is the way our spine could look over the next few years.

Bock's recent good form, along with Hentschel appearing more at home in the backline, means that Kenny can go forward.

This makes us such a better team. Not only can Kenny take contested marks in the forwardline (NO ONE else is our team can do this consistently) and kick goals himself, he allows Welsh become more effective as a leading forward, as well as actually creating some crumbs.

Hopefully Watts can settle into CHF over the next 6-12 months - his form in the SANFL suggests he will be back in the fold soon.

All of a sudden, everything looks a lot smoother.

It also solves the problem of what to do with Hentschel as he was seriously struggling up forward, as well as removing the question marks over Kenny's future in light of his lack of attacking drive from CHB.

Shoot me down if you like, but I can see this spine winning us a flag in a few years.

Can we give it a test run this week. Bye, bye Perrie.

It's almost beyond believe he has been on our list for 8 years.

What i dont understand is, Neil Craig says as long as he contests he doing his bit, for god sake hes in his mid to late 20's. He isnt a teenager. Anyone can contest and try and get their hands on the ball. Thats why Fergus should be given a chance, if he fumbles, its ok coz hes got plenty of time to learn, but perrie doesnt, yet we still persist with him. Plus, we need him back at the roosters!

I am bumping this because I don't want to see a thread I started die.

So, what are everyone's thoughts on this possible spine?

yep lets get the thread going, jacks opinion is that McGregor is not a deep forward in a premiership team. Some one like ottens or laycock is imo. It will be interesting what will happen to kenny after this yr, esp with his present mobility and whether is is temporary or long term. Fergus should be getting games very soon, but really we dont know what to expect he could be anything or nothing, who knows. Perrie i've always liked but he also isnt a long term option, although i think he should most definitely be kept until fergus has a mans body. Play ferg on a HFF for the moment. Whats fairly disappointing is this has been a problem for quite a while and still is.

The spine looks pretty good IMO. Obviously it will take some tinkering with over time, but it is young and looks full of potential (hate that word).

I dont mind Kenny up forward, not a dominant tall, but if he can contest hard and ferociously crash the packs at every opportunity then he makes his presence up there worthwhile.

No shooting down from me mate,

The spine of

FB Rutten
CHB Van Berlo Hentschel Bock
C Reilly
CHF Watts
FF McGregor

Ruck: Meesen Thompson and Knights

The spine for the future is good and over the next 10 or so weeks I would like to some more parts be put in place. It gives the side a viable option now and has time to stay together. The oldest player would be Kenny and he’s only 24 (correct me if I am wrong).

Add knights, Van Berlo and Gibbs to that list and after roo, Goody, Edwards and Macca depart the tough times ferret heads always reminds us about may not be so dark and dim. Not that I want to get the older guns out of the side but a succession plan needs to be implemented now so we can over come any downfall of talent. (Look at Ports midfield now, great key position players but no midfield)

To be accused of ''cliquiness'' but Nail.Hammer.Head

Anyone can ''contest'' and be a ''body'' but ultimately( dare I say it ) at the end of the day if you are not constructive then you are either destructive or conjuctive.

*sorry its early still

If you look at the spine, only 2 of the 5 ( Rutts and Thommo )are proven in the positions stated. The others are all cross the fingers and hope. I think Kenny needs to stay down forward. I'm hoping Watts gets another game before the second coming and you have to be quietly happy with the way Bock and Trent ( when played as a backman ) are coming along.

Ferret head and his so called opinion doesnt mean much anymore and his credibility is shot to pieces. He consistantly says when Roo, Goodwin, McLeod, Edwards go we will struggle, yet he says that Port can load up and win a flag in 2007, but Wakelin, Wilson, Primus, Francou, Montgomery, Wilson, Wanganeen, Bishop all would have either retired or be on their last legs and yet he recons they can win another premiership in 2007 who with ??? Does he really think that Surjan and Salopek could make a premiership winning midfield ??? As port struggle his hyprocritical views become more and more obvious because he accuses Adelaide supporters of overrating their players yet in the space of a couple weeks labels Toby Thurstans as a gun forward. Now he is claiming Port can run for another premiership in 2007 ?? what with a group of untried youngsters that havent shown a hell of a lot yet. I just find it amusing how he can claim in one breath that Adelaide supporters think this and that about their team and greatly overate them and he claims the truth is actually far from that. Yet when it comes to Port he is claiming that they can win a premiership with a group of unproven players, Salopek, Surjan, Thomson, Eckerman etc.

Rucci take a moment to realise how dumb you sound. Your opinions are just garbage now that you have clearly proven that you have one rule for Port and another rule for Adelaide

PerthCrow thinks jack is right when jack says McGregor is not a long term forward. I think the spine is ok ..its hard to judge it without Watts

Perwthcrow we are right, kenny is basically there for structure, so he can bring welsh who has a little more talent into the game, not much else. Talking in third person is confusing too

Nup, you're all wrong.

Rutten is a forward and will be there in 2006.
Watts is a forward too.
Welshy is a confirmed forward.

McGregor is a defender and wants to play there
So is Bock.
I like Hentschel as a third up defender like Harty/Bassett because he has such great poise and never loses his feet. Also he is not good enough overhead to play forward IMO.

Therefore;

Welsh Rutten XXXX
XXXX Watts XXXX

XXXX McGregor XXXX
XXXX Bock Hentschel

The midfield rebuild hits full swing in November 2005.

theres some merit in what you are saying, although i'd doubt it would happen. Kenny might struggle against the quick FF's as well. Clearly McGregor isn’t a natural forward and probably bock isn’t either. Alot depends of how watts goes really. If we cant trade for a forward we should be looking at drafting another on with our first round pick this yr.

With Rutten, i think we are forgeting he did kick 3 goals with his first 3 kicks against freo. So there is the argument for trucka to move forward, but why would you when he is shutting down the games premier forwards??

If we are getting pounded in a game and the full forward is destroying us, the 1st move we should do is put big trucka down there and see how he fairs, but hopefully that shouldnt happen ;).
