I have seen plenty of discussion on this forum re the captaincy at tigerland. I for one think that the appointment of KJ was strange to say the least. We need someone with some mongrel and a fiery character to get the team going. I want some passion shown and for the team to look to this man and say I want to be like you. The question is who do we put in charge, the only one who comes to mind at present is Joel Bowden, and maybe Richo, but I'm not sure if Richo would want to be captain.

The other maybe's are Simmo, or even young Nathan Foley.

Anyway what do others think?

Possibilities IMO:
Joel Bowden: Our best leader of field, gives praise to the backman when they do something good, and has a word to them if they do something bad. The fact that he always takes the best opposition foward and can still ruck up 25 touches a game for a guy his size should inspire them. Also our best skilled player and the general in defense. Represents RFC well in the media by doing charity work and as the president of the AFLPA. The most qualified IMO. Would have at least another 2 solid years in him

Richo: Bleeds Tigerland, everything he does, he does not for himself but for his team. Our most passionate player. Used to have goes at his teammates but has calmed down quite a bit and is a much better candidate because of it. His age works against him though

Newman: The best ranked of the younger boys. Theres just something about him, none of us know what it is, but you just know he would be a great captain. In the leadership group. Will have 100 games under his belt by the end of the year, however he has never expirenced finals footy.

For me these are the only realistic 3 candiates. If Brown and Cogs had played more footy in the last couple of years they would also be likley customers. Foley simply has played enough games, and has to work on his game before worrying about captaincy.

The candidates for the captaincy after:
Foley
Deledio
Raines
Reiwoldt

The other thing about our Joel is he is articulate. Which is always a great asset when you are a leader.

just a suggestion but maybe they should let the richmond supporters vote.

Fantastic comment Richo.....why not?
We own the club (in theory).
Maybe we'd then get a Captain with some ticker!
Not Terry.
Great idea.....thinking 'outside the box' Richo.....Good stuff.
:thumbsu: :D

My gut says Bowden for 2-3 years, sort of like an interim, and then give it to Foley if things go like we hope they do, and he matures into the player we envisage.

Cogs would possibly be captain now if he didn't go down last year and this one. :(

Bowden, Newman, Richo - lets have them all as captain like seems to be the fashion.
