Geelong will now have selections 17, 28, 40, 42 and 56 in the upcoming national draft.

We traded pick 33 for picks 40, 42 and 56 as the mystery 4th team in the Burgoyne trade.


Pick 28 from Mumford & used pick 49 for Drum.


Could be worse, hopefully we use 4 of the picks.

Nah what happened was our pick 33 goes to Essendon and we get picks 40 and 56 from Port Adelaide and pick 42 from Essendon not bad 3 picks for 1

Do we need to promote Laidler this year? If so, and we delist 5, then I'm getting that it only gives us three picks (with Drum added and Mumford not freeing up a spot), so would have been better off keeping our third pick (33). Unless I've messed up somewhere there?

The players suggested are all possible delistings, I think Smith has a lot of potential and I'd be stoked if we gave him another chance.

Exactly. Why are we so keen to be the good f***ing samaritan in a world where everyone else is looking out for themselves?

I think best outcome from here is:
- Offload Wojak, 42, 56 to North in return for Smith, 37
- Delist Egan, Harley (ret), DJ (ret), Tenace, Lonergan, McKenna/Donohue
- Promote Laidler, dump Moles (I think the other rookies can stay another year, no?)
- Use picks 17, 28, 37, 40 in the ND

I hope we got involved in the Burgoyne deal with the North trade above already agreed in principle. At least that would make some sense to me.

After reading this thread seems like I'm not the only one a bit confused.

Trading 33 for 40, 42 and 56 is fair, and given Wells's record with later picks could indeed help us in the long run.

Where I'm confused is this now means we have 2 extra picks than we did yesterday (when Mummy out Drum in is factored in). Now presumably the club wouldn't have done this unless it plans to use both of those picks, otherwise getting involved in the 4 way deal makes no sense (because if you don't use 42 and 56 it's effectively 33 for 40 and we aren't that dumb). So this means to my thinking (you guys suggest if you think I'm wrong) either a) we are planning to offload one of those picks in a deal tomorrow or b) there are more delistings planned than I had thought, and had been discussed.

So we would we using 5 picks (assuming we don't use 65) which means we need 5 free senior list spots.

Here's what I'm thinking on the list therefore : (feel free to comment)

Out:
Harley (ret)
Egan (ret)
DJ (ret) (maybe?)
Tenace
Donohue
McKenna

which still only leaves 4 spots.
Therefore I am a bit confused.

Theoretically the JWS trade wouldn't be the one here either as Wojo out JWS in doesn't create an extra spot.

Therefore I am thinking maybe there is a chance Lonergan or someone I haven't thought of will be traded tomorrow?

Sadly I suspect Smith for Wojo will be more likely.

Essendon looks the goods for Smith, or at worst Brisbane in a straight swap. Unless we have another player retire, it maybe a wasted pick at the back end.

Don't forget, Mummy out, Drum in actually uses a spot on the list, since Mummy was rookie listed.

was Harley on the Verteran's list? If yes, then Scarlo will take his spot, if not, then Scarlo will move to the veteran's list and free up and extra spot.

Still seems strange, unless we are going for Smith, OR as I read in the drafts and trading forum the rules for drafting roolies has changed this year (I heard you can pick up players to be rookie listed in the national draft as opposed to having to wait until the rookie draft. Not sure how true this is though.

I think we will lose a few young guys who really haven't developed very far. As a couple of posts have already stated, guys like Donohue might struggle to keep a spot.

I had a look on the AFL website (yeah it was great fun..) and as far as I can tell that is not the case.

Well from what Balme seemed to suggest this morning the trade of 33 had nothing to do with smith.

They weighed up if it was better to have pick 33 and 81 or 40 and 42
So 56 may not even get used..........................
