Looking at the history of our Talls injuries-
Holland - Knee
Richo - Knee
Gaspar - Knee
Ottens - Back
Stafford - O.P
Hall - Never seems to get a run of games together.

Have we got the most unreliable big man department in the Comp??

I for trading for picks in the Draft.

If Holland can string a few good games together than I say offer him up for trade.

This one might not get a good response but I dont see Ottens getting completely over an injury like he has suffered. Back injuries are generally hard to get over. So I say throw him up for trade. Get the No.1 pick and maybe another rnd 2 pick and get some quality young KPP.

Stafford and Hall can ruck for the next Couple of years and Richo up forward Shulz and Gaspar down back can see us through til the new blood comes through.

And if we do get no.1 pick than we can make a charge for Judd.

Ummm, how can i be nice about this....

No way in hell!

Give Otto a chance, his performance was brilliant against North if you take into account it was his first game back from an injury like that!!

Ben Holland too, it was his first Major injury ever and we are going to just give up on him, after the end of last year I thought Benny was in the top 5 CHB in the comp.

I say the problem is we have lack of depth in the big man department, if we trade or recruit another couple of good talls we will be alright as next year Shultzy will have another year in him! That would give us 11 talls?? and thats about the average I would of guessed...

I am all for trading to get a higher pick or even better Chris Judd, but surely we shouldnt get rid of our strenght, the only way I see us ever winning a Premiership is if the Big men we currently have now all step up and stay injury free for a whole season, thats what makes us better than the opposition, our quality talls.

Brad Ottens
Matthew Richardson
Darren Gaspar
Greg Stafford
Ben Holland
Ray Hall
Andrew Kellaway
Jay Shultz
Royce Vardy

I would say the best array of talls in the AFL. Just need a bit of luck and better decision making by our smaller blokes.

Then add Chris Judd and the pieces should fit :D ;) :D

put otto up for trade? 2 things about this:
big mobile blokes like otto dont grow on trees.
if we put otto up for trade clubs would be a bit suss of why on earth we would therefore his trade value would drop.

on holland why would we trade him now when 2yrs ago we could have got johnson for the swap?besides one of the reasons we have struggled lately is the lack of talls expecially in defence despite the good form of AK and gas.

hall on the other hand:D

cheers!

Greg Stafford - 30 next year.
Matthew Richardson - 29 next season
Andrew Kellaway - same
Darren Gaspar - 28 in 2004

Ben Holland
Brad Ottens
Ray Hall
Royce Vardy
Jay Shultz

We want to look to future years : Stafford isn't getting any younger and if we draft a ruckman now /..he might be ready in a few years.

Yes do need Judd. Judd would be great. But not at any price.
Just look what happens to us when Campbo isn't playing.
But if Richmond value Judd so much...why didn't they trade for his pick when he became available ?
Because we traded for Stafford when Benny retired. The big question is why wasn't Gales replacement already home grown ?
Oh he was...Steinfort...but he got chopped !
He was injury prone and not good enough so I hear....hmmm.
So why did the club overlook Jason Johnson for him in the '96 draft ?

Don't answer that !

He also got an accidental knock in the back early which he seemed to hold up against it pretty well.

How can you even think about trading someone of his quality, he is only 23 years old, is 201cm, 103kg, played for five years and has 101 games so hasn't missed too many games. He has kicked 126 goals and plays alot in the ruck. He is a fantastic leading full forward and should be given the opportunity to do some real damage from full forward without alot of other players crowding the room he has to lead into.

Richardson probably costs Ottens 2 or 3 goals a game when he moves within 50 and draws the flock of players following him into the forward line.

What Richmond really needs to do is look at acquiring more quality midfield players like Kane Johnson who are a very good kick. Unfortunately too many Tiger midfields who get the ball alot are shocking with their delivery into the forward 50.

I feel sorry for the forwards at Richmond when I watch them because if the ball coming in is not a daisy cutter its usually 2 feet too high or ten meters too wide of the target which makes it easy for even average defenders to spoil.

If Ottens and Richo were playing for Brisbane they would kick a hundred goals, each, every year, just based on the quality of delivery.

You dont need a Voss, Black, Ackermanis. You just need people that are a great kick when they get the ball. Campbell and a few other midfielders are great at getting the ball but they have a poor conversion rate with their disposal, its partly due to the pressure placed on ball getters. Receivers shouldn't have anywhere near the same number of turnovers or skill errors due to they are not under the same type of pressure.

Of our list of talls, only Vardy really isn't up to scratch. He is truly only there as a 'reserve' player to be used when all others are unavailable.

Schulz apparently (so we are told) isn't ready - I can only assume that this means his body isn't hard enough yet!

Hall does OK for someone who came to the game late. Half his problem is that he is used as a utility player, lining up in a different position each week. Now that Otto is back and Gaspar gone, I think he may well find himself as a tall defender each week. He did this yesterday and did OK. Nonetheless, this doesn't stop him from being considered as trade bait at the end of the year!

I have mentioned before that Gaspar may be a suitable candidate for trading with Judd but now he's done his knee, his value may have dropped.

Adelaide were interested in Ben Holland 2 years back - stupid us for not taking this trade; we could have had Kane Johnson AND Daniel Wells - though I am not sure how interested they would be now. The next 10 matches are crucial to see how he returns from his knee injury. If he is too slow and cumbersome - a likely prospect - then his value would be minimal.

There would not be a chance in hell I would consider trading Ottens! Richo, for all his tantrums, is one of the few players in the competition who can single-handedly change the course of a game.

My view would be to retain all our talls if possible with the exception of Vardy and to recruit / draft a few more.
