This is what i believe will be our best line up for next year will look like, with a few assumptions.

B: Wirrapnda Glass Chick

HB: Waters Gasper Nickoski

C: Embley Cousins Judd

HF: Sampi Gardiner Adkins

F: Matera Lynch Staker

Foll: Cox Kerr Fletcher

Int: Hunter Braun Jones Doogs

it will be different at the years end, but this is showing how i think our kpp's will turn out after a year of learning.

Assumptions:

Jako and banners retire

Gasper wont be needed up forward next year because of the return of gardiner, and is a better HB than Lynch.

Doogs will never be able to hold a KP, so he will be used as a Centre bounce ruckman to relieve cox(cos gardi cant)/and a forward.

Lynch will prove to be our best FF option, as he showed us what he can do(2002) up there.

Glass will never be a 5 star fullback, and we most likely wont be very active during the trade period, so he looks like our best option, and wont be as bad as carrol.

Delisted::Green(actualy, i doubt this, this is more of a hope if anything)
Collica(unfortunaltly)
Munro
Humm

Pushing For selection for most of the year: Johnson, Morrison(unless traded to maggies), Wooden, Chambers, Selwood, Edwards.

And i know what you are all thinking...'wtf is the point of doing this round 5 2004' well, its cos we wont win a premiership this year, and i believe this is the year of our Kpps making the big step of improving, and will be somewhat competetive next year, as this year is their learning curve.

Hmmm... i do agree mostly, but what about butler. I know he hasnt played yet this year, but hes been playing really well for perth so he could be a good one for next years team

the only neagative i think is the lack of experience in the team. with jako and banners not included, all we really have i s cousins and braun, the rest are relatively young.

Lynch has shown signs that he's a bloody good CHB, and is still on the improve- over the last 3 weeks, he's been by far our best and most consistent defender.

What exactly is your problem with playing him there?

agreed, and Gaspar has proven to be an excellent CHF so why put him at CHB?

Apart from that it seems that we are a third tall missing in defence. So mayne swap out Chick for Hunter in the six and we get some balance.

cos gardi most likely wont play ruck any more, so he will be the best to take up chf, and that measn we can use gasper at chb, which i think he will prove to be our best option for that. that also means that gardiner will own the forward rucking contest, bringing the ball to the ground for matera, and sampi to crumb and score.

i got no prob with him playing there. i just made the assumption that woosh has asked that gasper plays at chb in the wafl for practice, gardi will take chf, gassy will(assumption) go to chb because he will end up better than lynch in that position.
lynch goes to ff cos he has showed he can play there.

so this is my spine
Glass
Gasper
Gardy
Lynch

what would yours be mead, with gardi almost certain to take chf.

I agree on the Gaspar/Lynch thing. Gaspar, although in limited time has shown he has the makings of an excellent CHF. Lynch has also shown quite a bit at CHB. No point changing it, let's run with it.

Why can't Gaspar and Lynch play on the HF line? We could sort of have 2 CHF's which would solve our 1 dimentional forwardline problems. And you should leave Lynch at CHB he is improving heaps every game.

the problem with this 2005 team is that it consists of players that are in our 2004. it is glaringly obvious to everybody that west coast do not have a spine. we need to look at trading guys like braun, jones, hunter, wirrpunda if we want to get some quality bigs in our team.

I still see Jako in our side for one last hurrah, he still had alot to offer still has desire and passion to play

Braun is too good a player to be on the bench. He is one of our most consistent players this year finding his form of 1999.

I would include either Wooden or Chambers on our bench as they are prooven spak players and Wooden is a good option for back pocket or creative running flanker

it wouldnt surprise me, cos judd's motivation to sign on was because he saw the eagles as a premiership contender for the next couple years, and atm, it doesnt look like we are.

ok, ill bite, i know i shouldnt but grr i will:P

So thats why he has been quoted as saying "I'll return to victoria AFTER MY FOOTBALL CAREER IS OVER", why he has just bought a house and started a WA based business? Yeah, thats the actions of a terribly homesick person:rolleyes:

Our future line up (and success) will depend on four things:

1) Whether Travis Gaspar gets over his injuries.

2) Whether Michael Gardiner rucks or plays as a KP forward next year when he gets back from his knee.

3) Whether Dean Cox or Mark Seaby can develop as a first string ruckman should Gardy not be a ruckman in the future.

4) Whether we can develop a good Key Position backman to go alongside the solid FB in D Glass.

With regards to four we are on our way with Lynch, and will probably see how Gaspar goes at CHB when he comes back into the team.

With that in mind, this is the soughta of team i envisage us lining up with in 2007 (I know it's a long time away and lots of things can happen, but this is what i would like to see)......

ages are approximate - can't remember everyones off the top of my head.

Backs - David Wirrpunda (27 years old), Darren Glass (25), Beau Waters (21)

Half Backs - Adam Hunter (26) or Brent Staker (23) , Quentin Lynch (23) or Travis Gaspar (26), Mark Nicoski (24)

Centres - Andrew Embley (26), Ben Cousins (29), Damien Adkins (25) or Callum Chambers (28)

Half Forwards - Chris Judd (24) playing as an extra on baller, Andrew MacDougall (24) or Travis Gaspar (26) or Michael Gardiner (29), Ashley Sampi (23) or Brent Staker (23)

Forwards - Phil Matera (31), McDougall or Paul Johnson (23) or Mark Seaby (23) or Dean Cox (26) or Gardiner or Lynch, Staker or Sampi or one of the other Full Forward options.

Rucks - Gardiner or Cox or Seaby, Chad Fletcher (28), Daniel Kerr (24)

Interchange - Adkins or Chambers or Rowan Jones (29), Michael Braun (28). Then two of Sampi, Staker or the KPP left out of the starting 18.

EDIT: Also Daniel Chick (32) will be there abouts, but didn't have him in the team originally.....

Then nots forget that there are still young guys on our list that could work their way into the team - primarily McConnell, Garyham, Butler, Jones and Hansen. Also we will have about 10 players come through the draft onto our list in that time period.....

We have the talent, we just need to be patient.....

Im pretty sure gards and Cous will be about 27 in 2007, which is a good age to be. 29 sounds so much older, but it isnt really.

I KNOW Gards is 24 this year, cous is either 23, 24 or 25

By 2007 Gaspar will have played his 150th straight WAFL game and Black Thunder will still be saying "We have to wait and see if he has gotten over those injuries he has before giving him a run at AFL level".

yeah not 100% sure and couldn't be bothered checking. I just said what age i thought'd they be turning in 2007 and i know no one on the list is born in 1980...

In 2007, Cousins will be turning 29, Michael Gardiner 28.

Cousins was born in 1978 - remember he did debut in 1996, a 17 year old on his debut.

Gardiner was born in 1979.

Phil Matera will be turning 32 (still going?..), Braun - 29 and Wirra, Fletch, Jones and Kasey "I won't be an Eagle in 2007" Green will all be turning 28.

I think the majority of this team will be turned over by 2007 anyway, we don't have a flag winning group this era.
