I just found a second mistake from the original lyrics!

'We never weaken TILL the final siren's gone"

Fail.

It's either 'til or until.

A till is an object. You put money in it. We never weaken a till until after the siren, to keep our money safe.

If the original lyric 'shin' should be kept, then the original lyric 'till' should be kept too and we should all recognise the cash register connotations of the original lyric.

Unless... You know... We just keep the definitive version and ignore the 2 mistakes that have occurred when it was famously sung.

Nothing beats that old classic.
Even with the skin instead of shin.

The modern one is effin terrible.

It's like a group of Richmond haters went into the studio to try to make our song sound as bad as possible.
Leave the old one.
We all still sing shin in the stands.

Hi. My two cents worth.
I interviewed the man who wrote the themesong, he told me, and showed me the lyrics where he came up with 'risking head and shin'.
The idea being that you risk from top and bottom of your entire body (ie: head and toe).

Any change to that (ie Fable Singers etc) is an error at the time that was never questioned, or altered.
At the time of the Fable Singers recording, the themesong author wasn't consulted.

Cheers
Jack Malcomson, had a great chat about 2 months before he passed.

TILL was acceptable.

I was pretty p!ssed by the time we got to play it on Friday night after the game , I doubt you would have been able to tell what I was singing anyway.:D

I'm older than most here. I remember singing it in the 60's and 70's and it was always shin. That is the original and the correct version. If someone wants to change the lyrics that's fine but it must be done in consultation with the club and ultimately with their permission. Any version that hasn't had this cannot be the correct version.

Old tugga wins!

It could be worse. My 13 year old son thought it was 'we never weep until the final sirens gone'.
How is your boy, Darth? Fit and firing I hope.

We've been through this before. Deja vu much?
You are wrong of course. "Skin" is correct, regardless of what the players sing.
"Skin" makes more sense. The old phrase is to "risk your skin". Whoever heard of risking your shin? Doesn't make sense.
And "skin" makes a lot more sense in the context of a tiger skin (there is a tiger skin at the club at Punt Road actually). A tiger may risk its skin but (Chinese medicine notwithstanding) I've never heard of a tiger risking its shin. Ever.
Ultimately the original Fable Singers version of Tigerland is likely older than any of the the current players. I suspect it is older than you.
Leave it alone.
Or better still stay true to the original and sing skin like many other older Richmond supporters.
You are wrong of course. 'Shin' is the original, the best, the correct and the definitive version, as evidenced by the players and all associated with the club, plus the vast majority of supporters, singing 'shin'. As Rhett stated, 'risking head and shin' denotes whole-body commitment.

There is no old phrase 'risk your skin'. It's 'risk your neck'.

Relating it to a tiger skin is a massive leap.

No.
No one is questioning "original". They are questioning "correct".
tugga is suggesting the original version is "correct".
I am suggesting the definitive version is "correct".
Keep it open.
You're suggesting the incorrect version is "definitive".

The Skin be in.
It be sin to rock the Shin.
Fable Singers be the thing
When we rockin' to a win.

Yeah it Shin at orig-in
But since rattlin' the tin
It's been Skin thru thick and thin
Just like it shoulda bin

Word.
What the ****'s with Skin?
Where the heck you bin?
Risking head and Shin
Has always been in

There ain't no doubt
Throw Skin the **** out
Every yella and black lout
Hollas 'Shin' when they shout

When we win, Shin's the thing
So bitch don't you bring
That 'Skin' shit to the table
It's an ignorant Fable!

The foundation club songs recorded in the 60s that are played at the grounds are absolutely the definitive versions. They add a touch of history, and a new recording would sound lame

You wouldn't have to re-record it. Dubbing in a "sh" over the "sk" would be piss easy.

sorry mate, x rated like myself, not sure why but assumed you were the generation prior to the boomers. if they are still around. sorry sir. Maybe bigfooty should make it compulsary to have our ages so people like myself don't make these stupid assumptions. Take it a a compliment, far more mature than your yeard

Just having a play on words, I agree it should be shin :thumbsu:

I am not a professional audio engineer but I personally can do an amateur job at making 'skin' sound like 'shin' on logic pro studio. If an amateur can do a half-job, then someone at the club could hire a professional to edit the song properly (but they need the individual original vocal tracks).

Does anybody know if the original tapes are still in storage?

He's great thanks mate, working towards his VCE at the moment, probably won't get Dux but he will go close. Wants to be a Novelist. Turns 18 in October and still loves his Tigers more than ever. Around 6 years off treatment now so all great heath wise :)
