This thread is basically to point out where out sterngths and weknesses are, and it will also show how Steven King is going to become a liability, and probably this week with Ottens return.

Tall Defenders:
1. Matthew Scarlett
2. Matthew Egan
3. Andrew Mackie
4. Tom Harley
5. Sam Hunt

Small Defenders
1. Darren Milburn
2. Corey Enright
3. David Johnson
4. Josh Hunt
5. Tim Callan

Midfielders
1. Jimmy Bartel
2. Paul Chapman
3. Gary Ablett
4. David Wojinski
5. Joel Corey

Tall Forwards
1. Cameron Mooney
2. Nathan Ablett
3. Tom Hawkins
4. Brad Ottens
5. Matthew Egan

Small Forwards
1. Gary Ablett
2. Paul Chapman
3. Steve Johnson
4. Matthew Stokes
5. James Kelly

Ruckman
1. Brad Ottens
2. Mark Blake
3. Steven King
4. Trent West
5. Cameron Mooney

The problem is that Steven King will either kick out Blake, who is better then him, or Hawkins, so Ottens can be used ad a 100% forward, but Hawkins is a better forward then Ottens and Ottens is a far better ruckman then King.

King will cause problems this week because Thompson won't have the balls to leave him out for another couple of weeks.

I agree, think he might drop Hawkins in order to play Ottens FF,as might not be fit enough to play mainly in the Ruck. This would be a mistake as outlined by you above. Would also be a marketing disaster being our first game at home.
Bomber might play the 4 of them hoping it won't be windy and be forced to drop Chappy and Ablett because King and Byrnes cannot be dropped under any cicumstances.

King and Brynes picked 1st
Ottens to drop marks at Fullforward
Hawkins to get dropped (didnt really have a great game, fair enough)
Corey in defence
Tenace in

I love this coach  and thats not to mention he hasnt got a clue on tactial side of the game

That is EXACTLY how I would have rated everyone!:thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

ps. Glad to see s.byrnes was nowhere to be seen.. :D

The only changes I would make
1, Prismall to mid-fielders
2. Woj to small defenders
3. Milburn to tall defenders
4. Hunt out. which is only one change otherwise :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

King as # 1 Ruck

You lot have no idea. Blake is not Kings G String.

The Guy has not been able to get on the park in the last 3 years. When fit best ruck in the club top 5 in the comp. Blake may be good in a few years but he is not up to the standard of Street when he left. For F sake He needs to Kick the fing thing if he want to be taken seriously as a FOOTBALLER thae word says it all.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From an outsiders view, although Gablett gets most of the attention, I've been more impressed with Chapman and feel that he's the best Cat. Gablett, at his best is the better player, but to date Chapman's been the more consistent of the two (with Bartel probably alongside him, don't have the stats but Chapman would get much, much more contested ball than Bartel).

That's the whole point worthog, you cannot be No.1 ruckman if your not on the field or on it for 40% of a game.He was the best in the comp.in his day,now he is not even the best at the club.

Yes and no....there is no doubt chapman is a great player and is regarded very highly but Gablett is very creative, clears the disputed ball (as does chappy) but usually takes the oppositions best tagger as well so he is always under the pump. Thanks for your thoughts and no I am not mesmerised by the name Ablett.

yes I'm afraid I agree, he must play more game time, he can't rest in the pocket like Ottens because he cannot take a contested mark so he is:

A good tap ruckman (no doubting that)
too slow around the midfield
no pinchhitter in the forward line

Only one string to the bow aint enough to continue to take a spot on the bench, he is at the crossroads unfortunately and goddam it the team cannot have to continue to adjust their gameplan for the odd occasion that he is fit to play a game.

Are we talking about King or Blake. Blake is limited in his ability King is still quality. King can still win Geelong games Blake can not.

You're a disappointing Cats fan if ever there was one. You epitomise the stupidity of our coach, particularly when he said (in response to king criticisms):

"he is an All Australian and a best and fairest winner"... suggesting that King is an automatic selection for those reasons.

Going by his (and your ) logic then Worthogs, perhaps we should select Polly farmer, as he is a premiership captain is he not? I'm shocked that he is not a walk up start personally! Oh, and why not Gary Ablett Senior - he is a coleman medallist AND a Norm Smith Medallist... outrage that he is not in the side:thumbsd:

King will be lucky to play 8 games this year.
He does not play often enough to get into the tempo of the game.
He can not jump, is not mobile, is soft and is lucky to take a contested mark.
I am not saying he has not been great for the club, however I fear that in a couple of years time we will look back and say he could not even get on the park. We have selected another captain, who popular as he is also has difficulty getting on the ground. (They should have looked at his last year) If we get into the finals I can see us playing both of them to our detrimant, rusty as they are because it is the right thing to do.
AT least Blake offers hope for the future and has scope for improvement
He is becoming more comfortable with every game he plays

P.S.Let chappy be the captain next year. = grunt = passion
Harley still liked greatly

King can also lose games too....did you see that dinky handball that Crawford intercepted and goaled from? Pretty crucial in a 4 point game, don't you think? King on 2000 form would easily be our best ruckman, but this is 2007, not 2000, and the bloke is just a shadow of his former self.

Bet Polly would do better in the ruck than Blake and he has one more premiership to his name than Blake ever will have.

Blake is average footballer and while king is not on the park is adequate replacement (just). If you were older than 12 you would realise the Cats has had a hell of a lot of 2 game champions we have run through our side, especially in the Ruck or forward and Blake is just another one of them.

THen sack Ling as well (yes please) More crutial to the 4 point game were 2 dodgyholding the ball decisions against the cats (chappy) and our refusal to man up in the last quarter.
