Hey bigfooty posters!! This is my first post, be kind to me.
In one of the most even seasons in years it's looking like we could really take home the flag this year. No real dominant teams apart from a suspect in melbourne WCE's. Our home game against them is looking like a rippa, especially if the tiges can take it up to them next week.
It's a real pleasure to watch the likes of Sylvia, Mclean, Maloney and Trapper Johnston having good years, and with our multi pronged attack stretching even the strongest defence most signs are looking positive! I was'nt a fan of Holland being drafted but he seems to be doing ok. He's gonna take a key defender each week and his second efforts have been good for a big guy.
The only downside is maybe our defence, which will of course be bolstered by the return of Rivers this week in a danger game against the Roos in the ACT.
Its been good to get Whelan back in the side. I think Nicho is a little bit of a liability sometimes especially against quick forwards.
Oops my posts getting a little bit long, sorry.

thank you Celtic - 10 years ago if i said that Brisbane was going to win 3 premierships in a row, you would have said the same thing.

you never know. Who would have tipped Carlton to be playing so poorly after a top Wizard campaign....

Good post demondal, but its too early to call. I love the thought of it, but everyone was saying the same thing after round 18 last year, dont wanna do that again.

Well done on your first post demondal. As for the thread, I think this year is incredibly even and although we are probably in the top three teams going around currently (The others being WCE and Geelong, Saints haven’t done enough yet) we are halfway through the year and I’m sure you remember last year. Not many people noticed how important Whelan is to our defence but when he has been out we have been constantly cut up by the small forwards (Milne, Farmer, Williams) and I was very glad he was back the week we played Richmond who had a very in-form Nathan G Brown. Although Brown was injured that night I thought Whelan did a good job and his tackles are a standout.

Nicho is important when we play teams with the big lumbering forwards, and if Sav Rocca is named in the Roos side this week I would leave Nicho in and have him take Rocca, leaving Thompson to Rivers and Fergo to take Petrie because the Roos usually play 3 talls. I think Fergo is having a great year but he isn’t yet suited to the really big power forwards. This week should be a very good game and I just hope we win because the next few games are very important because after WCE at the G in Round 13 we have a lot of away games. Anyway, I wish we could do it this year and the signs so far are good, but we will have to wait till the end of Round 22 and see what happens.

me :)

We are a chance along with a number of other teams to win the flag. Like any top team we need pretty good fortune with injury and suspension. The main concern for the Dees is the physical size of the backline. There is not alot of grunt and muscle back there and to beat teams with a couple of monster forwards, in particular StKilda, it will definately require a lot of pressure from the midfield and teamwork amongst the backs. The way the season is going tho, anyone can beat anyone and the title is wide open!

Well they flogged us significantly...

I know that only too well but my point was they aren't playing the best footy they can at the moment and are not in the best three teams currently. I would say though in the second half of the year they will really hit form and charge up the ladder.

As long as we steer clear of injuries, we have as good a chance as anyone else, especially if the younger blokes can play pretty consistent footy.

You'd have to say that melbourne are a chance but no more so than many other teams. Teams like port and stkilda are yet to hit there straps and I still think one of those two will take it out. Lets wait and see how we go interstate. Its all about form and luck at the right time of year. But, if melbourne can take a fit team(especially white) into the finals than bring it on, we've got the best forward line going around and if key midfielders like johnno, bruce and co are firing you never know. Fingers crossed, Lets smash the pies first!!!!

I really think that Melbourne will go close this year. You seem to have a very good mix of younger and older players and you are playing with a hell of alot of confidence. Apart from the flogging that you will cop this Monday :D , I think that Melbourne will win the majority of their games (you do have a hard run coming up though). I predict them to finish top 2 and from there, who knows.
