First of I realise there is another thread on this but I've been a bit crook and missed the main boat. Starting a new thread would at least get this read.
As soon as I saw the Bombers strip I had to acknowledge it on Bigfooty.
The main reason you wear an alternate strip is so you don't clash and the supporters can tell the difference at the ground and on the tv. Against the Saints, Who would be your biggest jumper clash, this worked to a tee.

The jumper and shorts looked good and I say congrat's to your club for providing an alternate strip. Instead of bagging this strip be proud your club had the gonads to come up with an alternate strip which can be tweaked and changed if need be at a later date.

Being a marquee Victorian club with a big history it was good to see you embrace the changing times not keep trying to fight it like someone else.

The players didn't seem to mind it and the only effect it had on them was positive.

Well done and good to see the form turnaround, we all want to see every club play at their best.

Well I dont think any clubs should have been forced into an alternate strip. As was mentioned on Footy Clasifides last night, I belive that the alternate strip was a marketing ploy. For over 100 years we have not had people complaining about clashes, so why now. While I acknowledge it is hard to thell the difference between Essendon - Melbourne and Melbourne - Carlton, there should still be no need for an alternate strip as both clubs are disadvantaged equally. As a spectator, it is easy enough due to the different coloured home & away shorts. None of the recent inclusions into AFL would have jumper clashes if they kept their first year uniforms. Freo changing their jumper since hs caused a couple of clashes, so why should the original melbourne based teams be made to pay. I think it is ridiculous. Just another way for the AFL to make profits from new guernseys. Heritage round is another marketing ploy. For Essendon, we have the normal jumper for sale, Heritage jumper, Clash jumper, Training jumpers (2 I believe). That is atleast 5 jumpers for sale. That is about $400 + dollars. Just a joke.

Agree completely. The purpose of the clash outfit is so the regular mums and dads can tell the teams apart on the telly. For Essendon, thats not easily done as they have two dark colours in their outfiit. Nobody should expect Essendon to change their colours to add a lighter shade (what about a pink sash on a black background???:p ) , so they had to basically minimise the black.

I think their clash uniform was ok. It wont win any fashion awards, but it serves the purpose of distinguishing one team from another. And you keep your sash.

Anyone old enough to remember watching North vs Collingwood on a B&W tv?
Or Ess vs Rich for that matter

I don't see how it's such a big marketing ploy, I haven't seen many clash strips in sports stores or worn by our fans all around the place, to say that is just an opportunity to bag the AFL. IMO it was easier to watch a Bombers - Saints game in the past, if it means wearing it once or twice a year I couldn't really care.

I did notice you can fit more autographs on the big sash so that is a selling point lol

So seeing as its just a wider sash do we keep our record? Personally, If Hirdy will wear it then its ok by me....Id follow him into the gates of hell...
