Over rated by who ??? The kid has barely played a game so I would suggest he is neither over rated or under rated.... The jury is still out, just as it is with other recent draftees such as Grigg and Hampson. All these players have that dirty word "potential" at the moment. It will be up to the coaching staff to make sure all the kids on the list such as Gibbs, Murphy, Anderson, Jamison, Hampson, (Kruezer) realise their undoubted potential over the next two to three seasons that will decide the medium to long term future of the club. Carlton is at the crossroads as it stands having missed draft picks due S/Cap cheating we have finally assembled a list full of potential and youth. There is much casue for optimisim, however this should be temepred by the fact that the next few years could make or break the Blues as if we make a messof this list through poor recruiting and devlopment of players, Carltonmaynever make it back. Off field we cannot continue to susutain poor on field performances and expect to compete with other Melbourne based clubs for coroprate sponsorship and support. I personally think we are in great hands with Brett Ratten who is extremely hands on and relates brilliantly with the young players, unlike Pagan who was an old school Blood and guts style coach who tended to alienate himself from players, rather than Ratten who is very much a development coach....

i think for a kid taken at pick sixty something, to have played 5-6 games in his first year is a great result. No one is over-rating him that i have seen, but he looks promising.

My sentiments exactly, I think he was somewhat of a speculative pick as they all are that late in the draft and that the coaching staff would be more than happy with where he is at. He is no more over or under rated than other first to second year player they all take time.

That's a little extreme, but you are right to the point that we need to cash in on the optimism that Pratt and recent player movements has generated next year by converting some of that "potential" into realised outcomes.

Most of us thought we were in the 6-10 win category this year with our full team.
No depth meant that losing Stevens (no.1 mid) and Cloke (no.1 ruck) hurt us.

If Aisake and Hampson start to show some progress and play well there are going to be some seriously big calls made on this board. If Austin and Jamison join them, people will be penciling in the next flag.

I assume the Irish thing is to find some quick skillful running types........so the likes of Blackwell, Jackson, Bannister and Bentick will be on notice. Avergae was good enough in the past. It won't be in the future.

This will develop more depth as player now have to fight for a place in the team..........

DEPTH.

Such a good word I thought I'd use it again. We don't have it.......but we are getting it.

He was not a speculative pick.

Carlton had him inside their top 40 and went for Anderson because he was still left at the last pick.

All clubs say that their late picks were actually rated much higher buy their own recruiters !!! I don't care what they say all picks are speculative, even top 10 ones - although it has become a much more exact science.... Would we pick up Luke Livingstone and give him Sticks Number 4 again if we had our time over - I think not.... So I don't care where our recruites supposedly rated Anderson late picks such as him are indeed very sepculative - the stats would show that not many picks that low would play 50 games let alone 100.

What Livingston has to do with Anderson, no one will ever know.

All clubs may do as you suggest but I know for a fact that we rated him. That doesn't make the pick speculative.

Hindsight, its a beautiful thing!

But your stuck in the old school of drafting, these kids are now tested and watched for two years with most having senior experience, to the point most of us posters can give you each kids rap sheet. Both Gibbs and Murphy were informed they would be taken no.1. no speculation, and they have both showed sustained talent, fail to see the speculation?

Carlton have put together the best development team in the league, and are starting a football acadamy to fast track the development of our players, inclusive of one of the countries best fitness development coaches. Ratts and Icke have just finished a discovery mission on the latest in development and sport medicines from clubs like Man U and Juventus, Football giants and global brands!
The new state of the art development of princes park is underway thanks to Richard. Which is set to upstage the Lexus Center.
This year we turned a 3mil def into a 3.1mil profit and recorded a record profit from a victorian team, and we only won four games! we also had record membership for the second time in three years. We have sponsers coming on board, and the growing speculation about the Air Aritab deal, possibly the biggest in football!

The focus is on putting this club back to the biggest sporting brand in Australia, on and off field. Rest assured we are in good hands:thumbsu:

I don't care how much background and scouting is done - drafting is not and never wil be an exact science !!! I agree that clubs are much better at it than 10 years ago, but that is not my point. My point is regardless of if you are top 10 pick or pick 80 there is plenty of speculation. For example when Hawthorn picked Hodge at 1 and St.Kilda Ball at 2 in front of Judd both the clubs were speculating for whatever reasons - most likely based on all the scouting and alike you have mentioned that they were the best player as a mid. for their club to take. Hindsight suggests they got it wrong... That is what I mean by speculative.... I to agree that we are in good hands with Icke and alike but no matter how much homeowrk you do you can never be sure. For instance we won't know for years if Cotchin or Kreuzer is the right call for pick 1. Would Essendon still be happy they picked up Bradley in the top ten a few years back, considering they have dleisted him for nothing in return this year. I have no doubt that all Essendon recruiters were very bullish and optimisitc about Bradley back when they drafted him based on all their scouting as it turned out they got it wrong. So I am not stuck in the old school of drafting and I am simply stating it is not an exact science and despite all the screening that is done these days, we are talking about young players and you can never be too sure how they will turn out. Having said all this I agree that the Club is back on track and that appointment such as Swann, Icke and alike have set up the long term future of teh club both on and off the field...

All that is written here has been in the papers. Nothing new.
Where is your own great insight?

Please, don't go on about the turn around of profit. Most of it is either donation or afl handout to get that figure. Real profit is earned money. Carlton has been fortunate in the last 12 months, but only now are they putting the right infrastructure in place.

And lastly, you go on about Ratten overseas blah blah blah, Sheedy and Williams have been doing this for the last 5 years.

Yeh i reckon he just setteled into AFL football beter than other players in the past have done. Compare him to Benji and he just aclimatised himself better to the effort of playing AFL footy. Everyone is diffrent but he isnt overrate he just was the right person to play the games he did and he played them well.

hi draft pick, so playing any games this year was a bonus and a good result for our recruiting team.

I wouldnt have thought that he is over rated, i think its just that we are really happy to see a player taken so late in the draft get a gig

You have to be kidding over-rated, who has pumped up his tyres that much to give you that impression?

For pick #67 he has done very well in his first season and would have played more senior footy if it wasnt for him twanging his hammies a few times. Joey could have a big future - fingers crossed.

Why do people keep believing that the donations were a 1-off? You honestly think Pratt is going to leave the club without ensuring it is off the canvas and dominating?

PS GO ANDO! (No, not the Heroes guy)

Try reading the post i replied to!
I was displaying the facts to another poster, not so informed as your self, who was hoping that we develop our kids!

As i said things are in motion finaly and have faith in the guys running our team NOW!!

So the club taking more advanced methods into our future is not an exciting thing just cause the bomers have done it??? You do not see this as a step forward:rolleyes:
