West Bromwich Albion are getting taken over by a Shanghai based investment group for about 175m quid.

What is it with teams from Birmingham and the Chinese all of a sudden?

Pulis' job is safe apparently, although I don't know how long that will last considering his style of play....
 
Are Brum still owned by that Carson Yeung chap? Quite something if all the major clubs in the city/area come under Chinese ownership!
 
In April 2015 it was first announced that a Billionaire investor was interested in taking over the Carlisle United. Initially it was all highly confidential with the name of the billionaire being withheld, which, to me, is understandable.

But it has now been over 500 days and apparently the Carlisle board are still in negotiations with the Billionaire and they are still refusing to release the persons name or any details regarding the takeover or investment or whatever.

In fact there was a recent article in the local Cumbrian paper (The News & Star - Jon Colman who is the chief writer on Carlisle United is actually one of the finest football columnists in England, I enjoy his articles on Carlisle a great deal) that they only met the said billionaire for the first time last month!!!!!

WTF!!!!!

Just wondering, is this normal?
Does it normally take more than 15 months to negotiate a takeover?
Carlisle United isn't as big as Man U or Chelsea, surely it shouldn't take this long?

It wouldn't even be at that point, for the F&P test, the name would definitley be public.
 
Very bizarre DEVO - the only possible explanation I can think of is maybe the billionaire's interest in the takeover is somewhat lukewarm and is dragging their heels a bit? If he or she was very keen, you'd expect the negotiations to go along pretty quickly (in contrast to 500 days of 'negotiations').

If it was the club dragging their heels, the billionaire might just get fed up and look at other clubs to buy (unless they are dead set on Carlisle and are a fan of the club).

You would think the selling of a fourth tier football club would be fairly simple. Carlisle are relatively debt free, they own Brunton Park, and despite being relegated a few years ago have been fairly stable for sometime and have built themselves a strong football team with genuine promotion ambitions this season (in fact we are one of three teams in the FL still undefeated). And their annual turnover is only around 10 million pounds, so it's not like it would cost a billion pounds to buy them.

But then again it is Carlisle United, the same club whose previous owner boasted about being abducted by Aliens.:$

At the time of the original announcement, we were on the verge of being sold to a local consortium, so there was at least one offer on the table. It would suggest for him to interrupt and eventually end those negotiations he would have to be a little more than lukewarm in his interest.

The other thing that was being talked about at the time was Carlisle were talking about building a new stadium, in a less flood prone location and closer to the centre of Carlisle. That has also stalled which may explain the extended negotiations, but my understanding was that Carlisle were going to pay part of the build costs by selling Brunton Park, and the stadium was going to be a smaller capacity stadium (12,000 seats) than Brunton Park's capacity of 16,000.

It just seems weird to me, all the plans made over the four or five years have been put on the back burner because of this one person, and it potentially could have cost Carlisle it's very existence in the Football League as we only just avoided relegation in 2015.

Yes. Michael Knighton was our owner in the 90's and early 00's and would boast on local radio that during the late 70's, he and his ex-wife were abducted by Aliens. I think it was somewhere near Manchester. He tried to purchase Manchester United in the late 80's but was refused, so he brought us instead.:mad:

If Hull do get taken over by a Chinese consortium, looks like it might just be the tip of the iceberg for further investment in English football. That being said, was surprised to note 4 West Midlands clubs have already come under Chinese ownership. Plus with Hull, Blunderland and ourselves apparently all being linked - I wonder if there is any reason more London/Southern clubs aren't being targetted for takeovers?

"Chinese consortiums have been circling around a number of English clubs in recent months, taking control of four in the West Midlands – Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion. Another deal is expected to be ratified in the next few weeks, with Hull City the latest English club to attract buyers from the Far East. Sunderland owner Ellis Short also discussed a possible takeover with a Chinese group, but those talks ended without any sign of an agreement in the summer."

Of course it is safe. His tactics will now be known as the Great Pulis Wall of China. Surely plenty of marketing opportunities with his style of play.....

Perhaps surprisingly, about 75% of Toon fans said they wouldn't welcome a Chinese takeover at this point in time in one of the local Toon rags.

Cashley is still a grub but to his credit, he's taken a backseat and let Rafa get what Rafa wants. Might have finally realised that letting people with football knowledge make the calls is a better strategy than doing it his way and appointing souless yes men.

But can definitely empathise with SM's Hull case - when things are going badly with the current regime, the prospect of new ownership can be potentially the catalyst for getting the club back on track and uniting alienated fans, players and staff.
