I'm turning 18 pretty soon but it falls at an awkward time just after school holidays and just before yr 12 exams.I want to have a gathering but with the situation the way it is i'd feel terrible if some friends got polaxed on the eve of vce(but if they do it's their choice not mine)
So yeah just wondering whether i should-not have the party, delay it till schoolies and mix them, drag it forward(would be about a fortnight early so would feel weired) or just have it on the day and whoever turns up knows the risks.Cheers

Just delay it until Schoolies, since everyone will be getting blind, maggoted, hammered, legless at Schoolies anyway, mix the party in with that, but have a family/close friend (present) gathering before hand :D

I feel sorry for those that have their birthday in late october and early to mid november. Year 12 means that it really is a shocking time of year to have it. Also if any of them go to uni they may not be able to go out for future birthdays.

To answer i;d really need the actual date of your birthday. I had a good chick ffriend who had her birthday party the weekend before the english exam (on the following Friday) and i couldnt go... If its the study week before exams forget about it. If its 2-3 weeks before that time then have it and whoever turns up knows the risks, not that they are that great a month out from exams.

My 18th was in the middle of year 12 exams as well. Another option you have that you have not listed is to do what i did - delay it until right at the end of the exams (last day of exams) and make it a end of exam/18th party.

The fact it is end of the exams as well just adds to the size of the party!!:thumbsu:

Drag it forward and have it during school holidays. The best time is when mum and dad are at work or out for the day so they can't embarrasse you. Make it an open house as 18th's are times to meet different people and try new things as you are now legally your own person to do as you please. Enjoy the day and PARTY :thumbsu:

im in the same boat as u mate me 18th is on the last week b4 exams and im thinking wether to have 1 or not also

I don't really get the dillema of having a party in the last couple of weeks TBH.
Lets not forget the night before the last day, everybody gets absolutly shit faced and everybody rocks up with dark glasses on.
But during exams I understand.
I year 12 last year for the record.
I say go for it.
I don't see how getting drunk is going to affect you're exam results when they aren't for a couple of weeks

Delay it til schoolies. That's what my friends did in Year 12 who had birthdays just before or during exams. Too much of a distraction if you haven't finished, and you probably can't relax to enjoy the party as much as you would otherwise.

Each to their own opinion but I think it can be a good thing so you're not in the books constantly and you can just chill out for a bit

have it sometime before muck up day.. coz like a previous poster said.. everyone gets smashed muck up day weekend anyway... so any weekend before muck up day is good... anytime after muck up day is probably off limits so you have around 2 months to work with:thumbsu: i was lucky, i turned 18 the day before school started this year so i had the going back to school party it was wicked to catch up with everyone after the massive holiday break... don't think my party has been beaten by any of my peers this year either;)

Yeah, but you're already going to have muck up day, which is a fair bit of drinking and relaxing anyway. Even if the OP feels that it'll be OK for him (?) to have a party, a lot of people might feel like it's not right for them, and therefore won't show up...when they might much prefer a party they can go to later on.

Delay it, then you have a bigger reason to celebrate. There are many in your position but it you delay the party (and the planning) until after VCE, you can focus on the exams and you will enjoy it more as well. If you have the party when you birthday is, the exams are a distraction to you and your friends.

Hahahahaha, if your still at school when you turn 18 you must be struggling.
Hey great! thanks for the contribution there:thumbsu:...i guess everyone who didnt get kicked out in year 9 for being a ******* would be really struggling now:)

back to the point the date is the 12th of oct and i'm thinking i may just delay it and have a massive bash the last day of exams as someone suggested. Thanks for your help folks keep the opinions coming i may still change my mind

Woah Dude, Zing! That's my date of birth too:):thumbsu:

And i'm having my 18th on the actual day. Its a Friday, gives people plenty
of time to recover I figure. Mind you I'm playing cricket the next day which will be interesting:D

Should just have a quiet gathering instead of a party

During the day BBQ, few quiet beers etc with 15-20 of your close mates.

You could do that, then have a party after exams...

mine worked out perfecly 2 days after my birthday the massive end of year party is on so ill have a few blokes around b4 that then make our way there

Party > Exams. Therefore whenever your birthday is have it then even if an exam is the day next day.
