Passengers

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

The real passengers are those people who jump off our team and its players the moment a game gets hard. We have played most of our main challengers this year and are 4-1 but people carry on like we are getting belted by Carlton every week.

The reality is we probably are not going to be as good as last year but that doesn't mean we should turn on the team. It doesn't even mean we won't win the flag it's just going to be harder. Believe it or not it is possible that we can play well and not thump a team because they also play well. You got to ride the bumps with a grin or else it will be a long season of whinging ahead for all of us.

BRILLIANT!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!

This team just won three premierships in a row and people are labelling the players passengers.

Incredibly disrespect.

Embarrassed about this thread.
Me too. There are reasons and this year is and was always going to be a challenge, people who don't look deeply enough inside the information and the players who are in and out , they don't really know that much about footy. But sometimes wise cracking and stupid comments ease the pain for the BF kids.

Am i the only one thinking that hodge has been a passanger so far this year? The number of times i see an opposition player run past him while he is jogging and then be on the receiving end of a handball chain, or in the last quarter there where he was next to greene and then just ran into open space leaving greene alone in clear space inside their forward 50.

He does well when we are attacking, its his defensive efforts on the run which are my issue and where we are being beaten a lot this year. In the air he goes when its his turn but with defensive running seems to leave it to someone else.

He either isnt fit enough, isnt switched on or his body is too old to be able to keep up with the modern game.

Im not saying this jsut because of this thrashing we've copped but have noticed it multiple times the last few weeks.
Where's he at?

Hodge hurt his ankle/foot early in the first quarter landing awkwardly and struggled to accelerate after that, he also only missed two games with a broken arm.
He is also another one plugging holes down back due to how we are lining up.
Nice to see people wanting the captain and vice captain dropped to send a message, not sure what that message would be but apparently it needs to be sent

Shit thread.. Every game, every team (win or lose ) carry some players. If you've ever played the game you'll know how hard it is to perform week in week out, all these boys have a crack.

What we can't accept though is a continuation of poor performances, the trend has been alarming and I'm sure those in line will be told.

I maintain that we have some flat out sooks on this forum who forget very quickly, how often do you have a game where 22 players literally all carry an equal load? Doesn't happen, you have blokes that are up and some that are down, the beauty about this team over the last few years is its ability to share the load and where someone is down we always manage to have guys pop up and get the job done, your not going to have equal output from everyone, these boys aren't robots and to suggest that some are passengers is ordinary to say the least.

Not everybody had a crack yesterday. Despite winning games, our previous two performances were poor. Just because our team has been successful, why should we accept crap performances as though we're expecting to 'peak' later on. It's very arrogant and it's not what Clarko's message will be this week.

Having a loss in a worry but something was really awry yesterday. Outplayed for 4 quarters - first time it's happened in years.

Just remember there are people here who know they would be a better coach than Clarko and at the same time a better captain than Hodge.

Our effort is clearly down. We had moments of brilliance but cant get 1 quarter worth in a game. Yet are still 4 and 2.

We have to bury Richmond on Friday. Get all our players doing well, not just Mitch.

A mild loss to Geelong in round 1 resulted in a fairly comprehensive 4 quarter performance in round 2. Wonder how we'll respond after an embarrassingly big loss...

They often say that the end can come quickly and I fear that may be the case for Jordan Lewis. He has never been quick but he seems to have lost any run he had. There are times when he just looks like a statue out there as he watches the opposition speed by.
All the talk is about how long Hodge, Mitchell and Burgoyne have, but I reckon Lewis may be the first to go.
I remember the same happened with Daniel Harford!

I think H2F, they are inferring they are the "passengers" - on the bandwagon - and are jumping off, or are about to.

Some so called Hawthorn will never cease to amaze me. Send them to Richmond, Collingwood, Carlton, or Essendon, yes I just called out the Big 4. However, I believe they would probably give footy away.

I'm sticking around, as I have faith in my club.

Cheer up guys. Disappointed with the result but I feel it is the loss we had to have. Remember Hawthorn don't play finals in May. I remember some big losses in the 80s, but guess what? Hawthorn were in the Grand Final again. We also have a coach who will respond (uum reminds me of an old copper coach 30 years ago). Don't be surprised if the hawks come up with a revised game plan as in 2013, Clarko always has plan B.

Whingers don't like this post :D :thumbsu:

I agree there is a fine line between being honest and being disrespectful.
But I think one of Al Clarkson's biggest strengths is his ability to identify players that are finished, or about to be finished and move them on.
I don't think questioning the output of any player is disrespectful, nor do I think it has any relevance to how many premierships they have won.
Each year is a new year and the scoreboard is wiped clean. If you want to hang onto previous successes and chest beat, then go look at the supposed "Big 4" and see how that's working out for them. Life moves on, so do football clubs and players alike.
It's always better for people to say Why did a player retire, instead of why didn't he. Nobody on the list should be above question.
Or do we want to be like the "Big 4" quoting our 3 peat in 15 years time as we've won bugger all since?
It's pretty obvious who the next two should be to hang them up, calling it doesn't make you disrespectful, it means you have an opinion. And this is a forum driven by just that.

No no no no no no its not. Its driven by the few who run around saying nothing at all, fence sitting, thinking they are cute or funny or both, with meaningless dribble multiple times an hour acting very entitled, just waiting to come down on anything and anybody they think will earn them likes. If that isn't working they come in with the old "i'm a better supporter then you because..." insert some meaningless zero IQ level bit of crap here" ...... card waving crap using the same level of IQ required to stand behind a yank polly waving stupid placards

I would expect we will be breathing fire and with Hodge and Rough out, Lewis will step up big time, but probably give away some silly frees.

Given the majority of us here say Mitchell is our best player is it possible we're actually underrating Rioli?

I don't think many here are surprised by the changes to Lewis and Smith.

Taz was on 360 last night and admitted that apart from one game (vs Weagles), he was having a bit of a crap year. He did also mention (not as an excuse, mind) having to play slightly different roles, and swapping between even during games was possibly affecting him (and others).
