A highly skilled, pacy type who was originally earmarked to take over the ruck-roving mantle from Michael Tuck and Russell Greene. Dean debuted in 1988, but it was in 1989 that he really began to make people take notice.

His season culminated in an excellent four-goal performance in the Grand Final, including the Hawks' last major of the match to give us crucial breathing space.

While Anderson remained a solid performer over the next two years, he was usurped in the midfield mix by Ben Allan and then Darren Jarman. Dean managed to make the 1991 Premiership side (and kick a beauty from right forward pocket in the third quarter) for his second medallion, but his time at Hawthorn looked like it was coming to a close.

After an average 1992 season he was traded to St Kilda, where he failed to recapture his best.

Where is he now? Works for HSBC in Melbourne

Always remember his game in the 89 Grand Final.....He & Pritchard's run was all we had in the last quarter to stave off them Pussies....His 4 goals came at crucial times & proved vital in the win!...Was a pretty good kick for goal too.

Always interested to know what the players are ;doing now'.

Thanks JD:thumbsu:

FYI, Dean Anderson is the head coach of my nephew's under 11 junior football team in Melbourne - Hawthorn Citizens in the YJFL.

My nephew is very good friends with his son Luca.

Very good coach and good mentor for all the kids my sister-in-law tells me.

Very good runner and a goal scoring Mid who used to rack the posies early on in his career. After 91 he seemed to not get much love as he was continually left on the bench but Two time Premiership player who played a blinder in '89 GF!

Ando was a gun for few years. Jeans loved him but I reckon he fell out of favour with Joycey who preferred more 'physical' types.

Nickname had to be "Richard" or "Macgyver", surely?
Was at comic con on the weekend down here. Massive fan of both MacGyver and Stargate SG1 and love the bloke to bits, but wasn't going to spend hours queuing in a nerd convention just to catch a glimpse (was moody enough from the footy haha).

I hope his son Luca isn't a Gun and with his old man playing only 93 games and not the 100 we need for father/son. I would hate to see him or another son of a nearly 100 gamer star for the opposition. It must really pain the Doggie's supporters having missed out on the Reid brothers.
