I saw this thread on another site and thought it would be a good convo topic for us to while away the time. Witch former Pie (at least 5years since his last game for us) would you like to see playing with the current team and why?

My first thought would be Daicos. Imagine the X factor's we would have in Daicos, Didak, Daisy, Leon, and Medhurst  :D (... and a few more too).

But I guess seeing we've struggled sooooo long for a true dominant ruck I would say Len Thompson. Never saw him play but I heard stories that he went about his football like Buckley did on and off the field. Trained 6-7 days a week when back then it was unheard of. 5 B&F's, 1972 Brownlow, 16 seasons, 305 VFL games and our No.1 Ruck in Collingwood team of the Century.

R.I.P

I'd have to go with Daics (prior to his knee issues) for pure class & match winning ability. The thing most people forget (or don't know) about Daics is that he had a full knee reco in 1985 back when they were very hit & miss (well much more so than today) yet still went on to play at the highest level doing the unbeleivable week in & week out.

Thomo or Peter Moore would certainly fill the ruck hole nicely & Milane would add more than a touch of class & much needed hardness in spades.

Never say him play but given Bucks was described as the later day version of him you'd have to consider Bobby Rose...

Logical names like Peter Daicos, or Damien Monkhorst for the ruck, or Darren Millane for toughness, but if I could have one past player in this current side, it'd be Nathan Buckley. Match-winning, high possession gathering midfielder who could play both inside or out. Was capable of going down back to play as a CHB on the agile KPPs, as well as be a spearhead from CHF, or even at FF.

Darran Milane - Just Love his Toughness and Skill

One of my first memories is trying to kick banana goals like Daicos in the backyard. Need I say more.
But G Brown in his prime would also be handy, his attack on the ball rivaled D Kerr. That intensity around the middle would help us no end.

From what I've seen and read, and the way Mum still goes on about him, John Greening would be a definite touch of class through our midfield.

Not to split hairs Pielebo87 but i did ask for players who's last game for the pies was at least 5years ago. BUCKS is the obvious choice for alot of people for all the reasons you've mentioned but i would like to know who, other than BUCKS, you would have with this current group of players? For instance Paul Williams for his speed through the center, ball handling skills and his sharp shooting at goals.... I look forward to reading your thoughts!:thumbsu:

Brian Taylor, on a good day!
Someone to straighten us up a bit, and even better he could kick straight.

No way in hell. Only when we got rid of him from the team after the drawn final against WCE in 1990 did we win the flag.

John Greening would be my choice. He was a modern day midfielder playing in the 1970's , and he absolutely loved the club. As good as Judd and a much better mark.

Failing that, either Gavin Brown or Darren Millane would be good.

Peter McKenna - His goal kicking average speaks for itself. My first ever favourite player. One of the greatest full forwards of all time.
Phil Carman - Lunatic and biggest waste of talent in the history of the game. Maybe reincarnate him with some brains and discipline. We would have won 1977 Grand Final if the moron did not get suspended.
Peter Daicos - Player that gave me most pleasure to watch. Pure Class!
These are just the ones I think that stand out in all the years I have watched football that had that something extra. I can name many more, but don't want to go overboard. These 3 could change a game of their own boot. I would also name John Greening, but never saw him play. I have no doubt he was as great as everyone says. Biggest tragedy in football what happened to him.

Oops! Sorry! I should've read the OP more clearly.

I can't split it between Damien Monkhorst, or Tony Francis. Monkey could release Fraser and we'd finally have an A-grade AFL ruckman with Fraser killing it as a back-up, OR, Tony Francis, so we'd have an elite inside midfielder. This'd mean O'Bree would be out of the side, and a youngster like Wellingham, Beams or Sidebottom are in and playing just bit parts under an elite inside mid.

Cheers PieLebo87:thumbsu: i'm a huge fan of Francis and Monkey as well, just a shame they had to go St.Kilda to finish their careers.I still think MM (i mayb wrong in thinking it was Mick) made a mistake letting Monkey go, he could have teached Josh alot of the tricks of the trade in his first year with the Pies. I would also love it if we could bottle the mongrel that Francis had ( ala Tony Shaw) and feed it to all the Pies!

CLEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I miss him so much so full of class

Hey pauly moss, welcom to the Pies bigfooty:thumbsu:. Who would be your pick of players that finished with the Pies prior to the 2004 season. Clement was an absolute gun, wish we could have another six of him ( if not more) on our list!
