Yes, we were pathetic. The matchups were pathetic, the kicking to the forwards was pathetic, the way we moved the ball out of the backline was pathetic and all the players (Bar Jamar and Sylvia) were pathetic.

I didnt understand why we were not closely checking Dane Swan in the 1st quarter, but our problems were more fundamental than that at the end of the day...

But the one thing we should all be hanging our hats on is the fact that Sylvia really looks as if he's gonna be a top liner after all. Something that was just unimaginable 12 months ago..:thumbsu:

And Cheney was decent too, except for a couple of little moments...

I didn't rate his game at all. Still not convinced about him myself. Can't see him being anything more than a Peter Walsh type (red hair, I know)...

I thought Nath Jones was good today, possibly one of his best games for the season, as he has been struggling. Really imposed himself on the contest, and used the ball better...

I always said that Col Sylvia as draft pick # 3 was streets ahead of McLean who was # 5. Streeeets ahead!.

Now Col is starting to show his class...while the other bloke is going backwards...literally.

The other bloke today I was dissapointed with was Jared Rivers. What the hell is the matter with him?

What a surprise, more McLean hate.

Geez, I wouldn't write McLean off yet :D

He's really struggled and might do well with a spell at Casey, but he's had a limited prep. this season and its showing.

He's been disappointing no doubt, but we all know what he's capable of, and i would like to see him do more work on his anaerobic fitness, maybe shedding some of the muscle in his upper body and getting more power in his legs, cause he's just like a block of concrete ATM :D

Jamar to go absolutely bananas against Essendon and their 0 ruckmen. Once again we'll dominate the centre and get slaughtered.

Yeah I heard about that sta on 3AW. We had 50 or so tap outs to their 17..and we got smashed out of the middle.

Its got me beat.

Are ruckmen in general overrated? Does a tapout matter?

What the hell was Bailey thinking with Cheney on Didak??

What a stressful day, matchups were horrible all day. Bell has to go, he just blew his footy career today.

It was like everyone was pumped for the game, except the TEAM!

PISSED OFF!

Yep pathetic alright. Our big day and they were shocking. All bar sylvia and jamar. And to make it worse, they gave up today. Our defence was more dumb than poor. Diabolical decision making gifting them goals. It was under ten standard back there at times. Missing targets by hand. All players jumping at contests leaving brad dick to kick 5 goals off their scraps. Am I missing something? Oh and if you are going to drop miller and select watts at half forward kick the bloody thing to him. All of his leads bar one (10 seconds left) where ignored. It's like they didn't trust him at all out there.

Absolutely spot on.
When it started to rain in the 3rd quarter I went upstairs under cover, and it was really evident from a higher vantage point ,that even when Watts was in the clear , our boys didn't look for him. We preferred to kick to Robbo anda contest.
The postive was that Watts seems to have that ability to lose his opponent and get clear. It will take time, but geez I hope they start to have onfidence in him and pass the ball to him.

It was our grand final - and the players played like Melbourne in a grand final.

The first quarter was truly pathetic, the rest very very average.

I agree with you a little Pipey on Watts being ignored, maybe it was a bit of a message about the groups thoughts on him. But I think we would have sensed a bit of that before now if Watts is regarded by the playing group as a bit ahead of himself. Sounds like he should get another chance against the dons in a match that should be more open.

Also Richskee not sure why Grimes got moved of Didak for Cheney. He was keeping him very quiet. Cheney seems to play well on slower medium talls, he would be perfect for Bate, but can't quite keep up with the real speedsters. Another preseason should see him improve but I'm not 100% sold on him yet.

This guy could smash bate:

I think cheney is alright. not blessed with class or speed but generally reads the play well and commits his body to the ball. Far more pressing concerns than cheney to deal with!

I was impressed with his body work today, he just threw himself towards the ball and the man, and had a positive impact on several contests.

I went along today, just for a bit of fun. Sitting up on L2 gave me an interesting perspective on the game. I wanted to see how the Dees would go so I paid close attention to where players were running and general game plans.

Couple of things I noticed.

1) Your midfield didn't know what foot their opponent kicked on. Time after time players were caught on the wrong side of their opponent and it allowed the pies to get it from the clearances easier. Especially Swan and Davis.

2) Robertson one out was a joke. Sorry Dean, but you needed to try something else. Robbo ended up getting sucked up the ground and when you guys got the clearance you had nothing to kick to.

3) Tackling: Didn't stick enough and when it did you had 2/3 players tackling. There were a few times where a player left him opponent to help tackle, the handball came out straight to the player who left his man to help.

4) Disposal. Killed you to no end.

5) Backline. Needs to be less selfish. A lot of times I saw players run into the forward line with the Dees player not caring enough because it wasn't their man. I guess it shows that some players are trying to preserve themselves rather then play for the team.

That being said your second quarter was great and is a great sign for the future. Watts was also good.

Credit to you Dees fans, the passion of the ones who go to the games is top notch. Where I was supporters were always yelling and cheering, even right near the end.

Keep it up and don't lose faith guys, the result isn't to far away :thumbsu:

BTW: How good is Jim Stynes. All class he is.

Don't worry Colin, AFL writes off Brock every day, it's like a reflex action!

Maybe Brock owes AFL some money or something, something going on behind the scenes we're not privy to.. :D

TBH I wrote off Jones a couple of weeks ago, but i'm back on the bandwagon now, until the next game when has another stinker of course :D

I like Jonesy though, every AFL team needs a couple of bald men. Look at Geelong?? They've got about 5 in there best 22.

I think Barry Prendergast should be scouting for 1 or 2 bald kids to pick up at the draft in Nov. :thumbsu:

Pretty fair assessment... I think Robbo goes to ground too easily when he's in a marking contest, but it doesn't help that he's the focal point because he's best as a foil for one or two other big blokes (which we just don't have...).

As for the tackling, I thought we did lay some good tackles at stages but didnt get rewarded. There were more than a few occasions where Collingwood players were spun 360 degrees in tackles or dispossessed but we weren't rewarded. There were 2 such tackles by Bate in about the space of 5 minutes. I've just given up on AFL umpires, i don't understand why the interpretation of the rules differ so much from week to week?? but anyway...

The tackling & pressuring was not good enough over the course, and it was left to too few at any rate..

The Backline issue is probably more of a gelling thing. We seem to be rotating a lot of different players through there so its difficult to get the sort of continuity you need to work as a unit. I think our backline's working better than our midfield ATM (which is saying something), and than our forwardline which is just non-existent.
