Yes he has been out of the side but i think it might be due to his fitness levels. He will know Rhode is out the door so if Rhode did drop him i probably wouldn't read very much into it.

Don't worry, tigert Richmond have come out early and leaked that we are chasing an uncontracted Bowden, because we have the Dogs over a barrell and we want to stitch up a deal early on so that we can pursue other players in the same manner (i.e. by blackmailing their clubs with our No.1 PSD pick).

Once they have accepted a deal of either A.Kellaway or Chaffey etc for Pat Bowden, the No.1 pick in the PSD will still be ours and we will attempt to poach another uncontracted player.

We will then approach another club and probably look to swing a similar deal and offload whoever the dogs didn't want (i.e Kellaway or Chaff etc) for another uncontracted player. Once again we will have that club over a barrell. Only difference is they don't get a choice of player, they just get whoever the dogs didn't want.

This is a beautiful thing as we can aquire some new blood whilst simultaneously clearing out some of our older players, thus freeing up some cap space.

At the end of the day we will still have our No1. pick in the PSD to take advantage of whoever the Hawks or Pies have coerced to enter the PSD.

Weaver will know for sure, but I recall that Patrick was not rated good enough to take 3rd round. He was taken with the Bulldogs 6th pick (no58 in the 1999 National Draft).
Not sure where you heard he's supposed to be the best. Joel has always been the standout in a family of very talented footballers.

I think people are overrating the quality of players that will be in the PSD, last year there were 2 of value and one of those was traded in reality (Veale Deal) while it's hard to imagine another club doing the same as Port did with Stevens. Someone at the level of Bowden is a realistic chance to be the best available. The likes of Ball and Bruce etc, they are going to be traded if they don't re-sign, the chances of their club letting them slip through to the PSD are minimal.

seeing as we picked up mills instead with our 3rd pick that year, in hindsight we should have taken him.

patrick bowden is not worth picking up, its not what were are looking for.just because he is joel brother should not come into it.

I have no problem with Richmond going after Bowden and using the no.1 pick in the pre-season draft to scare teams into a trade, we did it last year and its just how the system works. Pat is a required player with us and id expect him to re-sign, Wallace never gave him a go at the dogs. If Richmond tried to offload Kellaway or Chaffey to us and use the no.1 pick to scare us into it id like to think Eade would be smart enough to tell richmond to get stuffed and if you want him so bad to use your no.1 pick, because with all due respect to those two boys id rather leave an extra spot on our list and take a gamble on a kid at pik 60 or 70.
