Didn't rack up the stats but a very mature performance from Bont. North threw everything at him off the ball and he just knocked it back.

The stare down after smothering Firrito was epic

The clip you posted below contradicts this to a fair degree, as you can see Cripps can and does grab the ball, break tackles and run free from congestion with ball in hand. He can also attract 3 tacklers and still keep his arms free to hand off effectively; makes the idea of shutting down his options more complicated in action than theory when he draws in teammates opponents.

I love the way he does this. Theres a bit of a trend, where the guy extracting the ball will try and break the tackle by forcing high contact to get a free from the umps. Its refreshing to see a young kid who has such a great technique at keeping his arms and hands free while staying on his feet going about it.

I voted Cripps, but yeah, no hard feelings for those who voted Bonts. He's definitely the more rounded player, and is probably more damaging. I just reckon Cripps will be a once in a blue moon extractor-type, especially after a couple more preseasons.

Bont.

However would take either in a heartbeat, both going to be long term guns.

I'm genuinely surprised this is so one sided. Bont is good there's no doubt about that but winning a club best and fairest in your second year should suggest something about how good you are.

That says more about Carlton given they also won the spoon

While that is relative to the strength of the team Bonts performance in finishing 3rd in a top 8 team would be at least comparable. He appears a certainty to win the Sutton Medal in 2016.

Or how shit the rest of the team is.

There are many ways you could build an argument for Cripps, but this isn't one of them.

The Bont for mine

Better disposal and shot on goal

Bont by foot for sure, but Cripps has shades of Diesel by hands. He's even caught our better midfielders flat-footed with his hand-passes. Its... ummm, its been a while since we've had a true extractor with elite hands and the rest of our midfield are still adjusting

One thing both Bont and Patty have in common is the innate reflex of lifting their arms up and using their height to protect the ball before firing it off in any direction. Midfielders are getting taller, but not many players that I can remember have had that in their arsenal.

One of Bont's very first touches in the league saw him collect the ball, spin into traffic and draw opposition players to him, then dish it out to a loose Bulldog. Cripps seems to do it all the time, but as you said, he's often one or two steps ahead of his own team.

Just my opinion, but I think the people who rate Cripps above Bont solely on how well Cripps can release his arms and handball out of congestion and spot up teammates definitely haven't watched enough of Bontempelli. Saturday night against Collingwood was a prime example of just how good he is in that regard.

A new Bont v Cripps thread, let's get into it.

Bont is amazing, one of my favourite players. Have to back Crippa though, the most astounding player in my eyes. He's a freak. Can't wait till they both play 100 odd games. Cripps is still a baby really, in terms of Games Played.

Not wanting to start a tit for tat but "Cripps is still a baby"? He's only played 15 games less and Bont was this good 15 games ago. A pointless remark in this comparison, both are still babies.

Bontempelli is essentially Cripps with an ability to play outside and a good kick, which is what the comparison boils down to anyway. PC is a brilliant inside midfielder but it's the Bont who is a proven match winner on a regular basis

15 games is almost an entire season of experience. It's not meaningless.

Does the fact that Cripps is 8 months older even it up a little bit?

No need to even it up. 15 games ago Bontempelli was still better footballer than Cripps is now. It's a bit of a cop out.

A lot of teams made a mistake not drafting Cripps. We most certainly did not.

Im not saying Bontempelli has gotten better in the last 15 games, but that Cripps will improve over his next 15.

Theres a huge difference between 50+ games and below 50.

Bont is in his 3rd AFL season, Patrick his 2nd.
