Patrick Dangerfield vs Travis Boak

I'd choose Boak to suit Geelong's needs. We have a nice and generally speedy midfield as it is, but an excellent inside player like Boak certainly wouldn't hurt in a tight game.

Dangerfield is still an absolute gun though.

Both are match winners but atm Boak just because he has had the best year especially where he has lead Port over the line e.g both showdowns

Boak easily. Difficult to flaw him. Dangerfield is too flashy and selfish. He tries to do too much. His kicking and decision making lets him down too. Has potential to be the best in the business though, ask me again in a couple of years when he develops into the player people think he is now.

Dangerfield is the most overrated player in the comp. Is he a gun, yes. Is he the best mid in the crows side, yes. No where near top 5 like all their supporters like to shout!

This is a legitimately tough decision. Both are very good players.

Dangerfield is stronger and faster. Boak is more skilled and works harder both ways. Dangerfield has peaked higher. Boak has out performed Dangerfield more often over the years. Dangerfield has potential to win a Brownlow. Boak (IMO) will have a longer career (Dangerfield plays "Crash-n-Bash", Boak is a more hard-working/crafty player).

I would pick Dangerfield for a game or a season and I would pick Boak for a career or as a Captain.

FTR - I have raised it on the Crows board, but IMO Sloane would make an awesome Captain. Like Boak he would grow with the role, make his team mates better both on and off the field and I think he has the footy brains to contribute more to the Captain's off-field role (meetings, strategies etc) than Dangerfield does. Dangerfield (IMO) doesn't have the right personality for a Captain to communicate effectively across multiple levels. Base on that make Sloane Captain and let Dangerfield just play footy to his best ability.

If one was to come to the Swans I'd take Boak purely because he would fit in better. We already have a Dangerfield type player in Rohan, and have enough speed with Rohan, Jetta, Lamb, B. Jack. Boak is another strong body around the contest who racks up the ball and would be a force with Kennedy. That's just who I'd rather at my team.

Geez, I wouldn't say he is over rated. he is in the top 10-15 players in the league

Thats actually a veyr interesting poll, which is unusual around here.

With Boak you know what you get week in week out, hes ultra consistent, a great leader, hard and skillful.
Dangerfield is all of the above plus super quick, can go forward but isn't near as consistent.

Dangerfield is a much better footballer IMO but i would actually prefer Boak purely due to his consistent play at a very high level.

Keeping in mind Dangerfield has played about 50% of his game time at full forward. I look forward to him getting back into the midfield full time next year when all our injured players are back.

but if you took boak out of the port side and replaced him with dangerfield, we would be far far worse off

Boak is an ultra-consistent mid and outstanding leader.

Dangerfield possesses an explosive skill set but doesn't use the ball nearly as well as an "elite" mid should.

Its definatly one of those, Crows fans wouldnt trade Danger for Boak and Port fans wouldnt trade Boak for Danger....
Both Excellent players, both hugely important to their respective teams.

In those last 6 months Boak has stepped up to be an elite leader who has become a matchwinner to go with his usual extractor qualities.

He has been fabulous this year.

Dangerfield is the hungriest player in the league and regularly does things that Jack Riewoldt would get crucified for.
