Patrick Dangerfield?

If we do get Dangerfield and lose Beams I'd call it square. Nothing to be excited about, it would be all square there!

It would be square in terms of talent for talent but I think Danger will add a dynamic to our plod squad midfield that Beams didn't. So in that sense we will actually be improved.

Realistically no, TG. I think if he was looking to leave this year, it'd have been rumoured already.

I'd be shocked if we weren't getting some irons warm for next year though. Getting a player like him, totally transforms a team, that will have quite a few early picks with a few games under their belts come 2015 FA period.

100% we are trying.

He is obvs considering his options.

Is it a long shot? yes but weirder shit has happened and as long as the offer is too good to refuse we may be in with a sniff.

If Dangerfield is a no go, why not make a play at Levi Greenwood roughly same age at 25 had a very good year has found his place at AFL level. he was one of the sole reasons North Melbourne jumped up the ladder.

Why don't we do both?

Thanks BP. I think a year is a long time to keep an iron warm. It's be rumoured by Buckley saying something today but that much. The official Collingwood fb page posted a photo of Dangerfield which I think is just inciting more hostility about us not picking up a high profile player.

Absolutely. One advantage Danger has is that he moves forward up the field where Beams prefers kicking the safe option sideways kick a lot. Though I think Beams finds his way through the congestion a little better.

Why don't we do both?

Because then Paul Roos would have a whinge about equalization and how that isn't fair. Get Greenwood this year let the dust settle get Dangerfield next year all will be forgotten.

For people asking my assessment or for any inside information re this person: out of respect to the lad and his family I will not comment at all on this topic until its resolution. I hope people understand the reasons for my silence and cease asking my opinion (especially in private messages here) The correct decision (for Patrick) will be made at the appropriate time. Thankyou.
You can give us your thoughts, we promise it will stay between the 4 sides of our monitors ;)

What about if you don't respond to this, then he's coming to us...

Nah just kidding mate, fully respect your position and stance.

Players - Noble said on TWR that picks are of little interest when discussing a player of his standing as they just can't be replaced and a draft pick is no guarantee.

So the subliminal hint he was clearly throwing out was it needs players.

Collingwood well placed here IMO - be silly to skimp and miss an opportunity like this.
I'm sure I heard something about low picks, but ok - cool - we'll give you some player/s.

How's this for a 3-way trade.

Brisbane
In: Beams
Out pick 4 plus Sam Mayes or James Aish to Adelaide

Collingwood
In: Dangerfield
Out: Beams, Lumumba pick (22)

Adelaide
In: picks, 4 and 22 and Mayes / Aish
Out: Dangerfield

Beams is a gun and there is no doubting that but in many ways we have already 3 others like him. Swan ( although on the decline ) pendles, Sidebottom and beams are all possession accumulators. I think what Danger brings to us is an X Factor. someone that can break the game open in 10 minutes. where as beams slowly cuts you up over 4 qtrs.

There's more chance of James Hird coaching us next year than Dangerfield is of playing in black and white next season.

Dangerfield would give us X factor, if we were keeping Beams and gaining Dangerfield I'd be slightly more optimistic about 2015.

I'm starting to (very prematurely here) get my hopes up.

Have this thought that the crows may try and pre-emptively trade him to get a similar deal to what I mentioned above rather than just a mid first round pick next year. On the proviso of course they think he's leaving. I hope those Brisbane muppets aren't the ones to thwart the deal.

I'm hating myself for saying this, but you're more positive than I am.

Beams wouldn't be on anywhere close to the coin Danger will be on, even when his new contract came up at the end of '15. The difference will be a 15 -22 player basically.

I'm not keen on Dangerfield if he's going to comes at a million a year. Spend it on a couple of highly talented young midfielders with a couple of years in the system who are guaranteed to be hits, have change left over and fix our midfield depth. The squeeze is happening at GC and GWS very soon, they have too much talent to fit in and lets take advantage of it now.

I think that's not too far away and maybe it would be accepted.

I'm just repeating what noble said re players and I have a feeling that pick 22 needs to be a player.

I'm just speculating though - same as you guys

Good call. And that's where it could get messy from our end as we have a strong SA contingent that we wouldn't want to part with if you guys played hardball (which you're entitled to).

Have to agree.GWS have something like 25 1st round picks on the list and GC probably aren't far behind.Although Dangerfield is a great player, if we could snare 2 1st rounders for Beams, i'd take it.Save the cash to throw at these young guns up north that will be asking for more coin in the coming years. We are not in the window for a flag just yet, let's build some kids, get some games into them. Then start makin offers to the big guns in the comp when we are are ready to make a run.

That trade suggestion also pre supposes you can extract Aish from Brisbane, and we know from bitter experience they can be extremely bloody minded.

Are considering GCS and what they may have on offer? The other possibility is that there is someone out there we don't know of that we could get across for pick 4 or thereabouts

I'm hoping the fact that they may (hypothetically) be dealing with you they may slightly be more reasonable.

GC I'd suspect would be more likely to offer up draft picks which wouldn't help out in facilitating a trade with you.

What Hutchy says these days ain't worth much but on Footy Classified he just said he thinks Danger is very much in play for the Pies
