Patrick Dangerfield?

What Hutchy says these days ain't worth much but on Footy Classified he just said he thinks Danger is very much in play for the Pies
He also said last year Sydney could afford to get Buddy! This was I think during the finals series of 2013.
His mate after all is Pickering and he would have some idea what's happening in the market.

How's this for a 3-way trade.

Brisbane
In: Beams
Out pick 4 plus Sam Mayes or James Aish to Adelaide

Collingwood
In: Dangerfield
Out: Beams, Lumumba pick (22)

Adelaide
In: picks, 4 and 22 and Mayes / Aish
Out: Dangerfield

Removing the intangible aspects of Danger, I'd sign off on that paperwork.

Don't need to be a highly paid journo for that. I could of told you that for free. But he won't be coming.

what he said actually makes sense as well (can't believe I just wrote that), in regards to him coming back to Melbourne. Just hope we are in play for him.

Of course you are. Melb were never going to be, neither are the Saints, and yet they were going to be the only sides with the necessary currency. He will only go to a big club and none presently have currency so they are waiting on the FA auction next year.

Beams leaving is a game changer because suddenly you tick 2 boxes - the kind of club Danger will consider and you are getting close to the necessary trade currency. All you need to do now is make the $ right and use Beams as a down payment on the trade - just needs a bit extra to reflect extraction of a contracted player.

I'm pretty confident your list manager will have instructions that if there is the slightest chance then just do what it takes to get it done - much less chance next year.

1. You will somehow need to extract 4 + Aish from Brissy
2. You will need to find another player worth around #20

It's Dangerfield!!!

I'm all for Danger, I think he'd be the best acquisition this club has received since Bucks but I dunno, I'd really like us to load up on draft picks and really put a solid base down so we can contend in 3 years time as I don't think we have enough quality youngsters yet to do so.

Patty is the same age as Beams. I'd much prefer to get picks this year and guarantee that he joins us as a free agent next year, despite how hard it would be.

Also wondering where this would leave Freeman, considering he is Dangerfield mark 2
.
Could we also draft another 2/3 and have a midfield full of Dangerfields running around?

Agree, just trying to play it down a bit. It will take a bit from us to get you guys to trade him. I feel for Adelaide by the way, the last few years have not been kind to the club. It sucks when player like Tippet, Dangerfield just up and leave. A bit like Beams for us draft picks just can't compensate properly for losing talent like them.

Hmmmm... would be torn on a 5 year $1 million a year contract. Would be in favour of a heavily front-loaded deal, but wouldn't want him to chew up that much long term. Would prefer to build through the draft. But at the same time, I don't want to continually miss out on Free Agents and you will always pay a premium for a top 20 player

It would be hugely frontloaded id say. Especially with pendles coming into free agency in 2016, you would have to front load it so come 2016 he is only on 600-700 or so to allow for Pendles and the other young players.

Lets not forget as well with current contract negotiations, AFL is talking about extending TV rights deal, which in turns means a new CBA (just looked that expires in 2016 aswell), which will INCREASE the salary cap within the next 2 years.

I still say we have NO chance of getting Danger, but if we do, it has to be this year we won't next year when 9 other Victorian clubs can strike. Money will not be an issue.

Dangerfield is a genuine game winner.
There arent many players like him that literally will your team over the line. Ablett, Franklin, Dangerfield and to a lesser extent Selwood.
If you have a shot at picking up a Dangerfield in his prime, you grab it with both hands.

Brisbane
In: Beams, pick 22
Out: pick 4, James Aish

Collingwood
In: Dangerfield
Out: Beams, Lumumba

Adelaide
In: pick 4, Aish
Out: Dangerfield

Melbourne
In: Lumumba
Out: pick 22

Melbourne may need a sweetener there.

We'd be losing Beams and Lumumba for Dangerfield while retaining our natural picks at 8 etc.

I think pick 4 and a homegrown will get the deal done for Danger. It's just a matter of whether we can snaffle Aish or Mayes out of Brissy (Aish more likely to get it done).

He also said the Brisbane Lions could pick up Beams in the draft this year if we didn't trade him....

Crows want aish. If he agrees to go home, this deal will happen. The media is only just starting to pick up on how far advanced discussions between these 3 clubs are. Geelong is also hovering, as they are the only other club dangerfield will consider going to

It works. I hate the idea of losing two senior players to gain one though. Beams for Dangerfield should be enough, we are practically giving Harry away there. Harry is under rated id suspect he'd poll well in our BnF.

We all know Dangerfield is a long shot but I'm not convinced it's as long as some suggest. The simple fact is that there's plenty of incentive for all parties to get it done. How strong that incentive is we can only speculate but it's not so far out in left field that it could happen. For Collingwood that's obvious... we need a replacement for Beams and there is no other player even close to availability who would be considered adequate compensation for losing Beams. For Brisbane they simply must get Beams now or risk failing to get him ever. They may well be in the box seat now but lots can change in a short space of time. No club takes those risks. For Adelaide the issue is to get some value for Danger if they believe he will depart through free agency next year. If that's the case then now is the time and what better replacement than a home grown with a name that is already famous in SA. Add some sweeteners and I reckon they'd jump at it. Aish's position is hard to speculate on save to say going home must have some level of attraction just as it would for Danger. For Danger it gets a bit more complex because he would need to be happy to give up on the prospect of an all out bidding war next year and you can bet his manager will be saying such things. Where it becomes complex is that there are no guarantees that he would necessarily get the right offer from his preferred club(s) next year and in the meanwhile he has to go through the hoops of a new coach anyway. Regardless of what the nay-sayers will have you believe, Collingwood still has plenty of currency as an iconic club to play for so that may well be attractive at least on some level.

So while we all accept it's a long shot, I won't be totally shocked is Danger finds his way to Collingwood. (I won't be shocked but I will be jumping for joy... watch out Joy.)

Did anyone else hear the Freudian slip, Franklin like with Pickering, by Dangers current manager?

I believe it went along the lines of "he's happy at the Pies....errrrr Crows" or something similar.
Yep... :)

Players - Noble said on TWR that picks are of little interest when discussing a player of his standing as they just can't be replaced and a draft pick is no guarantee.

So the subliminal hint he was clearly throwing out was it needs players.

Collingwood well placed here IMO - be silly to skimp and miss an opportunity like this.
Just out of interest, what would be a fair swap for you in terms of players? If we got pick 4 from Brisbane Im pretty sure we'd be keen to on-trade it if Danger was available, so if it was pick 4 and player X, which one of our players would you want?

You are overrating Harry

Have to agree.GWS have something like 25 1st round picks on the list and GC probably aren't far behind.Although Dangerfield is a great player, if we could snare 2 1st rounders for Beams, i'd take it.Save the cash to throw at these young guns up north that will be asking for more coin in the coming years. We are not in the window for a flag just yet, let's build some kids, get some games into them. Then start makin offers to the big guns in the comp when we are are ready to make a run.

Exactly .... I fear getting someone like Danger now will mean we give up to much now when we aren't in the window. I to would prefer to get to more quality picks this year and then have a decent crack at a free agent in 2 seasons time
