No, Johnson plays the 3rd test no matter what happens.

Pattinson straight in for MCG and SCG tests if available.

Patto im unsure about because he is best XI but Bird definitely needs to play a couple of shield games before being considered.

I'd be satisfied if Patto can get through one match. But if we have to restrict the number of overs he can bowl then no need to play him.

You wouldn't bring either back for the 2nd test at the Adelaide Oval. Hopefully both are fit by the Boxing Day test. That would be my aim for them anyway. Not saying I'd pick them but it does depend on form and injuries.

Even if he goes for 600 in all 4 innings? :p

I agree he should be a favourite to start, but maybe not a walk up selection regardless of his WACA record. He did well over here last time against England because of the prevailing easterlies that allowed him to swing a scrambled seam.

He'll get those same prevailing easterlies this year. They are a part of the WACA test every year. It's stupid that we'd remove it from next years calendar, especially being against India. 1) they get destroyed on that wicket. 2) revenge for those Indian wickets.

We get strong wind more often than not but it's not like happen every day. Evening session is the best for them though. I have a strange suspicion that Johnson plays best on day 2 at the WACA as well.

Who'd want to be brought back in time for the Adelaide Road???

Johnson's performance this match has made Boxing Day selection very interesting. Given how much the Poms are struggling with pure pace, I probably wouldn't pick Bird unless someone goes seriously off the rails. It is hard to leave Pattinson out of the team if fit though.

A lineup of Harris/Pattinson/Johnson makes me nervous though, given the injury prone nature of the first two and the unpredictability of the latter. Siddle may not be impressing this match but as a reliable workhorse I still think he is our best third paceman.

First off, you don't change a bowling attack that looks like bowling England out for less than 350 in both innings.
Secondly, Pattinson needs to prove he can get through a shield match and find some form. If he's confident he'll be less likely to be worrying about the mechanics of his action and therefore will be less likely to injure himself again.

Can't see them dropping any one of the 4 bowlers from this Test for Adelaide. I hope to see both Patto and Bird playing Shield Cricket and taking wickets in the not-too-distant future.

Given Bird's absence initially was being dropped for poor form he'd be back behind the incumbents and Pattinson and possibly Starc if all were fit. Either way can't see either playing this series.

Bird's absence was stress fractures wasn't it?

harris, expected him to continually be injured proved me wrong.
Was sure Johnson was a junk bowler who we should only trotted out for the waca, proved me wrong
Siddle, honest worker, expect him to play
Lyon, poorly treated by the selectors, the modern day version of reiffel, does his job, gets dropped every time they want to try a new spinner.
