This is his 6th year at the club and he needs to be better.
He is still skinny like a rod, don't think he is the type that will grow any bigger.

This is ridiculous. Bower was average in a sea of mediocrity. Talk about being unfairly targeted. It's hard enough being thrown into the forward line for the first time and then being switched to the back line for 10 minute stints... At the game I had a fat lard of a bloke sitting behind me who was blaming Bower for everything (a number of times when he wasn't even on the field :o)

Think Jamison, Duigan, Laidler, Yarran, Henderson at this stage are definites. Russell, Thornton and Bower should share the remaining spot and also one spot on the bench with one missing out on the 22.

:thumbsu: Good post that makes total sense...

Russell will play as he is a leader, although struggling at the moment...

That leaves 1 spot on the bench which I think may be filled by Irish as he IS a monster at 199cm and 100kegs and can play forward!

Paul Bower may still be in our best 22. It was after all his first game back. Give him some time, cut him some slack.

But let's get one thing right: he's not capable of body on body physical pressure.

Bower is a tall, mobile defender who matches a very specific class of forward: the tall, mobile attackers who work up the ground. He's in the past been a good match for Buddy and Cloke, and I expect that he played against the WB with the Collingwood game in mind - and Cloke specifically.

Other than Jamo, we have no KPD who can apply serious physical pressure, one on one. It's why I am a member of the "Get Jackson Trengove Club".

And even if Watson develops into that body on body player, we need three on our list (like the Filth have Tarrant, Reid and Brown) - because they will miss games and we'll be horribly exposed.

anybody judging Bower on tonights peformance need to take a look at themselves. First game back, and its well known the step up from VFL to AFL, he was tried forward I would assume to get runs into the legs, when he was moved back he looked comfortable but was just short of a gallop.

Witht he run into September he'll get better and player that running backman that we know he can play.

Judging him on tonight after real first game for the year is poor form.

This echoes what Mick Malthouse said during the week. He thinks that sending an established AFL player back to the reserves for any period longer than a month mucks up their feeling for the game because they get adjusted to VFL speeds and their reaction times are out of whack.

Freo is sniffing really hard. As mentioned in another thread, if the right offer comes along, Bower might be on his way out.

Thanks for the info. What is your feeling about what will happen? Staying or going?

A thread was floating around in 2009 about bower to fremantle, that he was feeling homesick and was offered more $$$$$.

The blues then upped their offer to Bower and he re-signed.

Are Freo having another crack?

Really??? The guy who has been injured for most of the year and struggling for touch didn't come in and immediately rip it up?

Per haps we better trade Kreuz while we are at it given we are basing our list on just today's performance.

not basing it on yesterdays game, just dont rate Bower.

That would be a pity as much as dependant on the offer.
Just don't think Bower would carry too much currency for the fact he hasn't been playing.
Then again, if anyone wants to pay overs for their personal reasons, we've got to be all ears, I guess.

I rate him. Showed a lot in first half of last year, and that as a young inexperienced player. Take that form and improve it and you have a gun. Hope he stays but if he goes they have to pay for that potential rather than currency of injury plagued recent past.
