Hi all, just a question on Paul Johnson.

Whats going on with him at the moment?

He looked to be pretty talented, but hasn't been on Melbourne's radar for quite some time.

Would be interested to see if we could get him to Carlton-from what I've seen he certainly has the talent. What would it take to get him in a trade? Also, when does his contract expire?

Injured his shoulder in the round 4 clash against the Swans, in a great 2nd effort. He has had a shoulder reco, or he would be most likely the in for Jamar this week (if he wasn't already in).

Personally I wouldn't trade him, but we are after another tall defender, possibly a tall forward, but that would be about it.

I don't know the Carlton list too well, but maybe a Waite or Jackson maybe.

Waite would be too high a price for Johnson.

Jackson is a Carlton roookie, so won't be traded.

Would you be interested in a trade involving Fisher?

We definitely want him to stay I would think. Got him for peanuts really and he's a very agile big man (and I mean BIG!)

What he said!

Will be better than the big Russian IMO.

did have the reco but hurt his shoudler again in sandy reserves on comeback trail.

Has the turning circle of a mack truck i would trade if u could get something for him

He's one of the more agile big men I've seen, definitely has pace and is good at ground level. Still bheind Jamar though for backup ruck, but could fill a FP position nicely I reckon.

Fisher on talent yes, but in reality no we already have an always injured cult figure forward.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

I hope you are joking!

What about PJ for Fisher or Houlihan?

Hey, I was gonna say Fevola + Murphy, so count yourself lucky :D

Houlihan? We are not a dumping ground for Carlton rubbish, thanks. If the team on the bottom of the ladder doesn't want them... why would we? I mean honestly, we are trying to win a flag!

A serious suggestion... Thornton + pick

Yeah, you're right. Houlihan and Fisher are both better players than Johnson. I was being too generous.

That price is way too high. Thornton on his own is too high. Why would we give up a great young defender, easily our best full back? Nonsensical if you ask me.

Would our 2nd round pick be sufficient for Johnson?

Why would we take a 2nd round pick for Johnson?

Didn't we give up a 2nd rounder for him when no one wanted him, he's gotten to the level where he would get a regular game for us and now we turf him out for the same price?

The guy has flaws, but I rank him on par with Jamar for potential, tell Carlton to **** off.

You wouldn't give up pick 19 in supposedly the best draft in ages for a ruckman who, at large, is unproven?

No, hes 21 or 22 and not many big men are better on the ground than our PJ.

Will take over Jamars role next year and then Whiteys a few years down the track, mark my words.

Superdraft or not pick 19 means is no guarentee, look at the the picks around that one from the ‘superdraft’ of 2001. Pick 18 – Shane Harvey, Pick 19 – Jason Gram, Pick 20 – Daniel Elstone, 21 – Matt Maguire. Looks pretty hit and miss to me.

In fact if we did that trade and had pick 19 we would look to pick up a young ruckman/forward with some potential who 3-4 years down the track might get a game…. See Paul Johnson 4 years ago when he was drafted at pick 24.

In summary, why give up a player we have invested time in for a similar player who may or may not be any good 4 years down the track?

Agreed,

PJ could be very handy in the years to come, with Neitz and Holland near the end.

and why would we give up a great young ruck prospect? would be playing at the moment if he wasnt so courageous and hurt his shoulder going hard for the ball.
you have to remember that promising ruckman are worth quite a bit, seeing as a good ruckman can be pretty hard to find. and thornton being your best backman doesnt say a lot, you did finish on the bottom of the ladder. having said that i still wouldnt trade johnson. he will take the place of white when white retires.
