I've always held Paul Roos in high regard, but he's now gone up another notch with this article.

Those who have already started to jump on Nathan for Collingwood's poor start to the season are still viewing Collingwood from the perspective of last year's all-conquering Pies.

Yet that team began to disappear in the final month of the 2011 season. Injuries and suspensions transformed an unbeatable team into one that was fortunate to make the Grand Final.

That is the side Bucks has inherited, not the one that won 22 out of 23 matches before being belted by Geelong in the final round.

There has been such negativity surrounding the club in the past week so its nice to read a well written article that gets straight to the heart of the issue.

Many people have been side tracked from what is really causing our problems of late such as the Carey rubbish and the Dermie stuff, but Roos IMO has summed up the real problems wonderfully well.

Perhaps even some of the posters on here should take a leaf out of his book and look at things from a different perspective :thumbsu:

Good insight from Roos and it certainly does put things in a different perspective.

we did struggle the last month of 2011, add all the injuries, wrestling with new game plan, and it's little wonder we're not excelling.

Pendles commently publicly yesterday or so that we absolutely had to change game plans cos the boundary one was cooked.

The example he used was when he saw Harry Taylor lining up 10 metres boundary side of Trav knowing that that was where the ball would be coming.

It had become way too predictable and therefore easy to put counter measures like that one, into place.

It's no surprise that it would take an ex coach to jump to Bucks' defense after a shocking week from the media.

Only an ex coach would understand the pressures Bucks' is currently facing, and Roos, when he's not sitting next to Mike Sheahen on the couch, is actually one of the best media performers out there also.

Great to see someone actually make some sense in the media.:thumbsu:

I agree we have too much Talent to stay this bad for the whole Season. If the Injuries Situation can get better then we can still be a Force this season

the article is spot on in every facet.

i think MM is such an egotist. Bucks is a new coach with a completely new panel and MM would have had the same. That requires some patience. The plan had to change and it would have under Mick and thank god it has / will bc as Pendles said yesterday sides had figured MM's plan out. Then you have the amount of injuries we have to deal with. I reckon at the start of the pre-season Bucks would have had something like this as his best side. Have bolded the players who are out for the year or had difficult preseasons;

B Maxwell, Brown, Tarrant
HB Shaw, Reid, OBrien
C Wellingham, Swan, Thomas
HF Beams, Cloke, Sidebottom
F Blair, Dawes, Didak
FOLL Jolly, Pendlebury, Ball
Int MacAffer, Krakouer, Johnson, Fasolo

I think it tells the story

The only issue I think is whether or not Bucks went at them to hard. But in saying that I just wonder whether he had a view that we tapered badly at the end of last year and he needed them to fitter and stronger. To be fair I think a few of us thought that after the GF.

I think it is unreasonable to have expected that there would be no teething problems with a change of coach and the subsequent change in game plan. You throw injuries and a difficult draw at the start of the season into the mix and it just compounds the issue. It's really easy to micro-anaylse these things, especially after an emotional loss to the old enemy, so it's great to get a different perspective from someone that knows footy. Someone that I feel has cut to the heart of the issue.

We just have to stick together and try and stay as close as we can in the early part of the season, what really annoys me are the ones who are going after Buckley.

Judging by Buckley,s handling of the media through all our injuries and other trials and tribulations we could not have picked better to replace Malthouse and even Mick should recognise that Buckley has not had it easy by any stretch and how often would you get 3 knee reco,s in the same season really anything that could go wrong has but Buckley still tows the same line he does not blame others for any shortcomings.

While Roos is right, and I liked his article, all the talent in the world means shit if the team has confidence or self belief.
Easy Ed. . .

Confidence and self belief come with experience on the field and we have been desperately short of that this year. 90% of the footy world has been desperately hoping to see Bucks fail, including some notable Bucks haters and MM love children on this board.

They have jumped up and down, ranted and raved saying this proves them right - I think anyone with a balanced viewpoint knows exactly what my opinion of them is - especially so called supporters is without needing to bad mouth anyone.

The game has changed and we need to change with it, if not lead it. To those Buckley haters and Mick fanboys I say. . . lap it up kiddies while you can, it won't last.

BINGO. Well that's what how I have been justifying it to my mates. If you read a lot of tweets from the boys over preseason, they have all said that it was their hardest preseason that they have had. Naturally, as a result they would be leg tired in the last quarter and may even look a little slow and flat. If they are tired, their skills are also certain to be poor.

The thing that Mick forgets is that Collingwood in his time was only strong when Bucks was strong as a player and there as a coach. So he can bite it.

I love Mick for how he helped us gain back our playing respect in his time as a coach, but if that ball bounced into Milne's hands in 2010- would anyone be questioning Buckley taking over? 12 years just to finish runners up 4 times?
