If anyone was wondering if Pavlich is worth chasing or worth sacrificing a first rounder, wonder no more.

He is a bonafide superstar!

We must make a move for him, and we need to make it impossible for him to say no. I know he's contracted for another year, but everyone has a price, we need to find out just what Freo's price is.

If they simply refuse to talk turkey, we will have to wait another season, but we have to get him the next time round. We should make it a mission for our recruiting staff, to be all over his management until we get his signature. (much like Freo did with Carr)

I wonder what NC is thinking he would pay.

I'd give Watts, our first rounder and throw in Perrie or 4 or 5 others to boot.

We have got to get Pav in the tri colours ASAP. This is not negotiable IMO.

Didn't watch much of the game but how he got his 8th I have no idea! Holding the ball decision but he wasn't the tackler?

7 is still pretty impressive though ;)

I'd give most of our draft picks for this year and throw in a another player :) This years draft is so shallow, even the top 5 are not the best.

I agree that the AFC have to go after Mathew Pavlich but the minimum that would be accepted by the Dockers for Pav would be 2 top 10 picks (FFS Richmond got that for Brad Ottens).

The only was the price would decrease in value, would be if we had a top 2 or 3 pick in the pre season draft and M Pavlich was out of contract allowing the AFC to offer him $700,000 a year and outbid the others in the PSD and thats not going to happen this season and hopfully not for a few years.

I would offer the Dockers for starters our first round (pick13-16 at this stage), Perrie and (Hentschel or Bock)

Watts will be no value until he has proven himself in the AFL, just as Ben Rutten and co are relatively unknown to the other clubs.

The question we have to ask ourselves is, what would we want for Mark Ricciuto or Andrew McLeod at the end of 1998.

The Answer would have been, plenty and more value than we are giving up.

But if Pav wanted to come home and we didnt get a trade done, he could nominate himself for a Pre-Season draft and get him for free... So Freo would have to be careful to not ask alot.

Firstly, he wouldnt be out of contract, so he couldnt nominate for the PSD.

Secondly, any other team with a higher pick in the PSD would jump at him before we would get close.

But Pav could keep a sum in his head so that other clubs couldn't touch him.

I was disappointed with the last quarter fade out because i really saw it as a chance to break Pav's back with his side being humiliated in front of his family and friends but with himself playing well, he might of realised the side was going nowhere regardless of how well they played and what a great time to do it while he is with his family and friends.

However Freo, and himself especially really showed some pride so we may of missed that slight opportunity.

Who knows if Pav is disgruntled which some people are suggesting wwe may be able to snag him by paying his wages next season, therefore realising a lot of the cap for Freo to chase someone themselves and obviously the draft picks we would have to give them.

I really do not think it is out of the realms of possibility that we will get him but Fanta and JR will really have to earn their keep.

What you would need to consider is that getting Pavlich locks down a position for you. So, immediately offer every player that plays something like that position...why hang onto them?

Give Freo their pick of two or three of Welsh, Burton, Perrie, Watts, Krueger, Hentschel, Meeson or Gibson. Seriously, how could you lose?

Probably can't except for the fact that he's still under contract until the end of 2006, by which time, there will be different views on the value of Watts, Meesen etc.

Because at the present moment our list is seriously thin with back end talent (outside the first 25 player we have duds), once we have a run of injuries the lack of depth on our list will be found out very quickly. To give 2 or 3 players away for one (given he is a star) is dangerous in the point of list management and player depth.

In 3 or 4 years once the Watts, Meeson, Gibson’s and Maric are playing regularly playing key positions, allowing the club to have a player pool of about 37 with5 or 6 kids to pick from instead of 27 with 7 or 8 kids and 5 duds, this will allow a strategic option like that to happen. One player for one player and a draft pick for this year anyway.

What 3 players from that list would you take for Warren Tredray? If we proposed a list like that to the Fremantle Dockers they would laugh at us well.

Fortunately for you, Freo don't have my aversion to Crows players.

After giving up first round draft picks for donkeys in the past, I reckon we would be very reluctant to give up 2 for PAV. If we can get Gibbs under the FS, we could give up 1x1st rounder and a player (s) at the end of next year. He definitaley wouldn't be paid $700 as we are normally reluctant to pay above 500-550 - which is good business in my book.

If Pav does want to return home I'm sure a deal will get done. Fremantle are not in a position where they can afford to lose him for nothing to the PSD. One problem we may face is Port competing with us for his signature, as they are going to have earlier picks than us for the next few years it would seem.

Good call about we have been smart with player payments. We want players that want to play for the club, just not for their wallets. I think Pav wants to play for the Crows. He barracked for them as a kid and his family are crows supporters.

I would give up Perrie, Van Berlo and a first round draft pick for sure.

Remember Jonathon Brown declined $1m per year for Collingwood. Pav is worth as much. The Melbourne clubs can put much bigger numbers on the table given media contracts etc., so no chance he could get through the PSD to the Crows by pricing himself highly.

I agree he is a terrific player but I personally think the money would be better spent developing our own list. Highly priced players arent often worth as much as they cost IMHO. eg. look at Carlton's Koutifides. Also Wayne Carey cost so much in draft concessions and was pretty average for a couple of years. We could have had Daniel Wells instead if we had looked long term. (yeah I know Pav is 23 or whatever but he will still cost a bomb IF he is even available, both in trading plus salary costs).

I heard a whisper that the power are nearly maxed out with regard to their salary cap. I doubt with Tredrea, The Cornes' and The Burgoynes' they would have much room left to pay Pav between 400-550.

this conversation is stupid

Neil Craig has already indicated he is about developing players

getting Pavlich while would be great because he is a gun player wouldn't fit with NC's ideals
its fairly obvoius that he wants to develop his guns, how much better will it be when Watts/Messon or Maric walk in to CHF and start to make their mark. Instead of being the team that pillages the rubble of other teams we become one that can develop stars (which would be attractive to players like B gibbs who don't HAVE to go father/son)

instead of picking the next scalp why don't we concentrate on how well Watts is coming in the SANFL ?? also the Maric and Meeson seem to be coming along fairly well.

What was the point of all the noise to get good youngsters if we aren't going to give them a crack ?

That's all good for us if it's true. I wonder what sort of room we would have to accomodate Pav. Can Roo go on the veterans list year, or is he already?

I think he is already on there. If not, he definately will be next year.
