I haven't enjoyed seeing PAV play away from the forward line this year from a purely selfish point of view - I love seeing him toweling up CHB's and kicking heaps of goals, but out of necessity, due our huge injury tole Pav has sacrificed his game to try to help the team gain success.

This i think is the theme of the club - team success - and i feel that Pav has lead from the front in a very difficult year.

I was reflecting on Lloy'd recent book and the subsequent revelation fom his old coach that he had another 2 or 3 years in him - but he had to change his game and go further up the ground and play a team role. He's ego or some other reason stopped him from staying on and trying to help the team get that success, but i toast Pav, because here is a man who has played 250+ games and has played all over the park, and finally locked down a position of CHF and could have just sat back and said kick it to me, but when the team needed more calvary his actions have spoken volumes of the man and history may say Lloyd kicked a lot of goals and won a premiership - but he was no where near the leader of men that Pav has been and i hope he gets the ultimate reward before he retires!! He sure deserves it!

Love the Pav an very greatful he has been so loyal despite his love for his hometown adelaide an big money offers thrown at him to go back there he has remained loyal.
Massive respect for that.

As for sacrificing his game for the team dont agree on that.
Wont go into it in such a positive thread though.
In short Pav playing midfield does nothing to help develop an improve our midfield.
Sounds like its not his choice though yet hes still doing it an giving it his best shot.
Cant blame him for silly coaching ideas.

I'll toast the Pav. He's been invaluable in the midfield, especially since Mundy has been out. Though a defensive liability, he's been a very important and effective player in the middle for us in an area that we've been worst hit with injuries.

In any case, the toast is for his attitude and leadership especially in more difficult times in recent weeks and I don't think anybody can doubt that. The guy is the perfect footballer and a terrific role model and leader for our club.

We say this every year though..I know we have a new proven coach, maybe he will put the guy in the forward line.

I do know one thing, playing him in the midfield is shortening his career and turning him into a average player.

Mundy/Barlow/Fyfe/Suban will be consistent performers next year.

Mora/Hill to add the ex factor and lets pray some consistency.

Surely it's Ibbotsons time to step up the plate, I know he was decent down back but he's better than that.

Not really, it's only mentioned after a season where he spends the majority of his time in the middle e.g. after 2009, after 2010 (2nd half of the year) and now we're saying it again after 2011. Harvey was in charge during all of those years.

CC never did it. In fact, CC generally faced the opposite criticism, which was that he left him standing around in the forward-line unable to have an impact.

Most people (Lyon included) don't have an issue with Pavlich rotating through the middle for a short time to get involved and/or change the dynamic.

He switched Pavlich to forward midway 2005, and after a disappointing year we went on a run of wins and almost made finals.

When he played majority forward in 2006 at the peak of his abilities was when we had our best finish.

We've always been a better team with Pavlich up forward.

We didn't have many forward options in 2007 and 2008 though, hence the need for Ballantyne, Mayne, Anthony and Clark.

Considering what he's done as player in his career I hope he never cops it from the key board warriors.
Over the years I've had a ping at him but right now he should be all about management.
No matter what he does it will either be good or bad management.

Yep, not only that but Pav's contribution to this club goes way beyond his on-field performance.

His continuing loyalty to a basketcase team was pretty much the only shining light for us supporters during some pretty bleak years. It would have been devastating to the club if he'd walked on us back when he was one of the hottest young superstars in the game.

Whatever happens from here on in he'll always have a special place in Fremantle history. It'll be a sad day when he finally hangs up the boots.

I just can't really remember being too fussed about Pavlich playing through the midfield when he was younger. You might be right though. I just remember the media/supporters bitching about Pav being stranded up forward whilst the game was slipping away from us when CC was around. Thinking about it now, I guess that stems from the fact he'd shown ability through the midfield.

I agree we're much better with him up forward. It seems everyone other than our coach generally does. I think they get distracted by how much he can do and forget about what he can really do.

Where has he said that? That's not a criticism by the way, I just haven't heard him mention anything like it. The only specifics I heard was when he mentioned a bunch of other players being injured.
