Anyone heard Pav's interview on 5AA today??????

He was a bit tounge tied when KG and Cornesy told him that he would look in a crows jumper and that we "could find a spot for him" :D

I have a dream ... :D

what exactly did he say?

i dont see him coming to SA for a long long long time....

End of this year we will be signing him for another 3-4 years and make him Captain ...i cant see him being made captain at the crows.

He simply said that someday he would move back to South Australia. KG said to him that he would look good in a Crows jumper and Mathew Pavlich went all coy but did not categorically rule out if when he would live in SA before his playing days were over or after, he simply said that one day he will be living in SA again.

Take that as you like, if he wants to move back to SA, well that fantasist and he would be welcome at the AFC with open arms, if not then so be it.

He did say that he would like to finish his career in SA at time he signed last contract.

Whether thats after his current contract expires or after he signs another contract with Freo remains to be seen. However, looking at it logically, I doubt any of the Adelaide sides would be too keen on trading for a 28 year olf Key forward with suspect shoulders.

If he is planning to finish his career in SA as he said a while ago then one would suspect that the best time for Pavlich to do that is when his current contract expires.

which is never going to happen as I have inside word from his GF and internal partners/firends that he is looking to stay in Perth long term at least another 5-7 years business commitments etc...as for ur comment about suspect shoulders then why do u want to go for him in the first place.

We will have to wait and see with your perdiction because there is someone on this board that is good mates with his father and according to his old man, Matthew is planning to return home after his current contract expires out.

The thing is no one knows better than Matthew himself. I guess we will find out when the time is right.

He is 25, he still has 5 good years of footy left with him even with the suspect shoulder. However, at the age of 28, he only has 2 good years on suspect shoulders and no club will give up what Freo would want for a player in that position. I suspect Matthew himself would be aware of this.

Anyway, this is all guess work at the moment and we will find out one way or the other when the time is right.

Of course you do, FFS everyone on Big Footy has a source or inside information from the AFL, AFL club or AFL player themselves (player partner as well)

Until the Fremantle Docker release that Mathew Pavlich has signed a contract extension and is going to stay in Perth he is still out of contract, I am sorry but you have no credibility to say you have a source. No one does unless it is an official press release from the club. .

Yeah, McGregor seems to slow for Pav and it doesnt help that he hasnt been in form.
Yep, McGregor's in the worst form I can remember and Pav regained some of his best form last week against the Power. This is probably the most crucial match up of the game and I have my doubts as to whether McGregor is capable of containing Pav.

A lot of us here were saying prior to the first showdown last year in regards to Kenny Vs Tredrea match up but Kenny went out and gave Tredders a bath despite being badly out of form.

Even though I rate Cooney VERY HIGHLY and have since he was a league regular as a 17 year old, I think you have to go with Pavlich (if its after this season) as he is what we need. Key forward like him don't grow on trees and we are in real need of one. He will be 25 next year and in his prime and we will still be a chance at a flag. He would be a perfect fit for us and he would be the #1 candidate for captaincy when Roo gives the game or captaincy away.

I agree with you in principle.

but the deciding factor on which one to go with, would have to be who was most committed to coming home. in each case, it would be dogfight to swing it, and if they were 110% in it, they would likely be swayed.

if it were me, I'd make my assessment this way:
Pav - fills a key need; 25; getting on slightly. gun
Coon - young, gun.

which one wants to come back most. you don't want to end up with neither IF it were the case that both said they were willing.

That goes without saying.

My decision was based on the assumption that both want to come home equally as much.

I think you will find that Pav will be what Scott West has been to the Bulldogs extremely loyal .If he didnt go after our riveting season in 2001,one win ,I think you missed the boat, because he did say he was tempted to go then, but stayed.Anyway should be a cracker of a game tommorow night Cant Wait.

For the last 2 years i have heard from a reliable source that we have tried (hard) to trade for him.
And i believe this is true.
However I suspect that his agent lets this go on just to get him more benefits for staying at freo. I now doubt that he will ever come home.

So trade for Cooney? or trade for 1st pick (Gibbs)? or play the hand we are dealt?
I reckon option 3, but I would be much happier with either of the first 2.

PS: Kenny on pav is the norm! and has been for them since under 13s

Oh ok, didnt realise he was so young.
Maybe because he started young. He made his debut for Fremantle in round 5 in his first year playing alongside Modra and he never looked back. He got to play with his childhood idol and has developed into a brilliant player himself :thumbsu:

Yeah, he's a solid and established player.... and to be ony 24

Dont mention Mondra at freo :p

After last night when Ken pantsed Pavlich, do you think Pavlich's worth to Freo has been psychologically reduced to the point that they would consider a trade?

Lets face it, they wont win a flag during his football lifetime so they may as well get what they can while he's tradeable at the end of his current contract as he won't be worth much after the next contract.

I hope so. Just imagine having Pavlich as our gun forward with Goodwin, Edwards, McLeod and Roo kicking it down his throat <insert drooling icon here>.

He would be the perfect player for us but I honestly don't see Freo trading him unless he is the one that forces their hand. Apparently he is contracted until the end of 2007 season. He will be 26 in 2008 season so if he ever wanted to come home, thats the time. He won't be worth as much if he signs on another contract with freo.

I will also say that with every passing year, Pavlich's value to us decreases. Right now his value to us is as high as it will ever been.

We know his worth. Its interesting that our list is stacked with tall forwards though. Maybe the club know his intentions. Though i think he will be staying with us for the long term.

Bit of a cheap shot about the flag. We are a decent midfield away from having a real crack. A couple youngsters would go a long way to getting the midfield in order. It doesn't take long to overhaul a midfield. You have to wait much longer to develop a spine. Young midfielders can have an immediate impact where key position players take years to develop.

What do you think he's worth? I don't think you'll be finishing low enough to give us the picks required. I'd imagine two picks inside the top 5. One being pick 1 or 2. In a strong draft. Maybe a 2nd rounder as well. Lets compare with what Ottens and Hay got. Those two combined don't equal Pav. Yet they each went for 2 first rounders.

I'm concentrating on picks because I can't see anyone or two players that would be just compensation for Pavlich. Thats not an insult, your stars are older and your youngsters don't command the same value. Perhaps Neil Craig :D

I would much prefer Pav stayed with Fremantle. But if he wanted to leave, I don't think it would hurt us as much as people think. I mean Polak stood up at CHF yesterday and he's 21. Add to that Longmuir and McPharlin as tall forwards and we are still fairly damaging.

Not if you keep playing like you do. That game plan will kill you off before the finals. If you don't make it then is Connelly gone?
