This should be interesting. What time does sabre wake up?

From my point of view, J Longmuir and Medhurst are not overrated, while Pavlich and McPharlin aren't really forwards.

Hehe, yeah I'm just bored. I definately don't think Pavlich, McPharlin or Medhurst are over-rated (and your right, Pav and McPharlin are not forwards).

I think Justin Longmuir and Trent Croad are over-rated, but are still developing and very young. In other words, they have potential... geez i hate using that word. Well, I don't think many people rate Croad anyway so I can't really call him over-rated.

I think Farmer is slightly over-rated but his work around the midfield/ half-forward line has been good this year and I would be expecting an improvement from him next season.

Slightly different. Much better as a flanker, but capable of playing CHF (definitely not FF).

Combined, Hamill and Whitnall had just about everything (except pace). Great combination, it's a pity for Carlton it couldn't be nurtured. They could have made a dud like Fevola respectible in time.

I nearly cried reading that post.

McPharlin if anything is underated.
The 2 times he has been thrown forward I think he has kicked 2 bags of 4.

Never kicked more then 2 goals, before the weekend.

Alright, since J Longmuir is overrated, we'll give you Brett Johnson and Nathan Lonie for him. Whaddaya say?

Well if you rate him so highly..
How about Hay for Longmuir straight swap??

After all Longmuir has stitched him up last 2 encounters.

(That said I would never trade a home grown talent of hte calibre of longmuir)

Do you guys think Longmuir has been disappointing for no.2 draft pick?

Not really, players with his frame need some time to develop and he is playing with a knee problem.

I would have preferred if we got Headland that year though.

You REALLY want to get rid of them, don't you?

Would the Freo folk accept Clarke/Lonie/Johnson for Justin Longmuir?

Clarke/Lonie/Johnson may as well be the same as Lonie/Johnson.

I want hay dammit.

Breaks my heart to read in the paper that he came up to the club saying he wanted to play for the dockers.
But instead we drafted Sinclair and Black before him.

And where are they now??

Well if we get headland from the lions next year well have the 1st 2nd and 3rd picks from the 98 draft :)

Disapointing??
Not really I mean he was as skinny as a rake when we drafted him and he is one of those players like burton that will never peak untill there late 20's.

Headland has played one good half season so, longmuir thus far has been the better return.

Its like asking were you disapointed wasting pick 3 on Croad

No.

While Justin is struggling, I think he is a big part of our future. If we want to one day be a serious contender, I don't think Clarke, Lonie or Johnson would play a big part in that, while Justin Longmuir could.

I don't think Hawthorn would want to do the above trade either.

I most certainly do not want to get rid of Brett Johnson. I think he's going to be a fine player. But the club seems to think differently at the moment, and being a WA boy, packing him off home could be good for club and player. But I'd certainly prefer to keep (and play) him.

As for the other bloke ...

Absolutely I'm disappointed with wasting that pick. We'd had a grand total of two top ten draft picks in the last decade before Hodge, and they're both gone. Wasteful.

So who should you have got in that draft instead of Croad?

I think he meant Croady, there Jim.

I don't wanna see BJ go, but as you said, he's a WA boy and he might look good in a package with Chick if he goes. The HFC match committee also seem to think BJ won't be a Hawthorn player, and they absolutely no faith in the guy. Disappointing to say the least.

Lonie is great with the ball. He is especially great streaming down the wing or with the ball 50 metres out. Thing is, he is uber-soft.

Clarke, well...

Croad overated??
Well you guys didnt rate him too highly over here and I never had over the top expectations.
Overpaid maybe

Farmer yes slightly overated I must admit i expected better.

Same goes for longmuir...sure he has been injured all season but I still expected better.

Medhurst is a first year player that quite often is our only option up forward.
No way is he overated.

my goodness!!!! Are you ok sabre???

---------------------------------------------------

Pavlich can play anywhere but is generally a CHF, DCFC.

Mcpharlin isnt overrated....hes done very well since coming back from injury.

Farmer...he just doesnt do enough for his pricetag and reputation...but hes always been like that. I think most people are clouded by his one awesome season in 2000. Prone to kick a bag and be a matchwinner but rarely does and dissapoints more than he excites.

Croad...well the Freo supporters here thought he would be the second coming and many stated here that they thought Croad would be a champion and that the Hawks fans were only saying he is overrated because of sour grapes and/or being far too harsh on him. Now i think the Freo supporters have woken up that he isnt a superstar and probably never will be. If your gonna go after a 'big name' like Croad and pay lots of money for him, then surely you play him where he can have the most impact...which isnt at full forward. He isnt a full forward and shouldnt be there. An absolute waste of money him being there...he is averaging under 10 possesions a game and if you take away his 7 goals againt Melbourne and 5 against Richmond then he has only kicked 24 goals in 15 games. Very dissapointing..but he should be moved somewhere else so he can actually do something cos at the moment hes probably getting paid $3000 a kick.

J Longmuir...overrated. Ive only ever heard Freo supporters (1 in particular) speak very very highly of him. Really he doesnt do enough....if he is that badly injured and cant kick over 35-40 metres then he shouldnt be playing really. Very inconsistent to be called a 'superstar' at this stage. Has a big future if he goes near fulfilling his potential. No better than Bandy was at Freo in my opinion.

Wouldnt call Medhurst overrated. Inconsistent yes but no way overrated.

What's wrong with Lonie?
Needs exploratory surgery on his chest cavity.

As for who we should have gone for in the Croad draft, the pick itself was the right one. He was the best suited player to the type we were after at the time. The disappointment is that he didn't live up to the early promise and that he is no longer at the club.

However, if it wasn't for useless bloody Melbourne and their useless bloody concessions, we would have had the second pick.

Mmm, Ottens.
