Goodes by some margin. Pavlich is great player who has played well in both midfield and as a forward, but Goodes can play everywhere, won a Brownlow playing ruck and another as a midfielder,is a big game player and is arguably the 2nd best among the active players after Ablett. Pavlich is though probabaly the 2nd best Utility in the game after Goodes.
If one were to select a team of best active players over their career form, both would get in though.

Yet he was named AA Full Back in 2002 edging out Scarlett, Lake & Mal Michael.

Why bring up Lake? He debuted late in 2002 as Brian Harris

I seriously think goodes is overrated and shouldn't have two Charlie's

I agree that Goodes is slightly overrated and does't deserve 2 brownlows, he never has been as good as Ablett or Judd but he is ahead of Pavlich.

Ablett jnr
Judd
Goodes
Pavlich
would be a fair order in my opinion.

Not in my opinion.
Judd has been the 2nd best to Ablett over the last decade, You just hate Carlton too much to notice.
Nope, just think Goodes is better due to being able to change the game in every position on the ground. To say it's due to my hatred of Carlton is misguided and based on nothing. FWIW I have Judd 3rd

Not doubting his versatility across the wing, ruck, half forward and key forward, but how many dominant games/seasons has Goodes had at FB or CHB?

Pavlich is more versatile imo.

How many dominant games has Pav had in the ruck? I can't answer your question, but Goodes won a brownlow in the ruck, one in the midfield and was close to winning one at CHF. Goodes is literally the most versatile player in the game.

Goodes has never been the best Ruck, CHF or Midfielder at any stage of his career, where Judd has been the best midfielder and best player in the game for 4 or 5 years until a freak in Ablett got his shit together.

Goodes won a brownlow in the ruck

Goodes averaged the 66th most disposals that year (18pg), the 22nd most marks (5.9pg), the 30th most hitouts (12.5pg) and kicked 20 goals (72nd in the comp).

For a point of comparison:

Gardiner averaged the 178th most disposals that year (13.5pg), the 15th most marks (6.3pg), the 2nd most hitouts (25.2pg) and kicked 10 goals (158th in the comp).

While Goodes showed he had more versatility as he received more disposals he simply didn't compare to the top couple of pure ruckman in terms of HOs.
The fact he was named as no. 1 ruck in the AA while averaging half the HOs that the top rucks did is concerning.

Goodes won....one in the midfield

Goodes averaged the 55th most disposals that year (20.8pg), the 35th most contested disposals (7.9pg), the 41st most clearances (3.1pg), the 101st most centre clearances (0.9pg), the 52nd most tackles (3.4pg), the 33rd most clangers (lower is better)(2.8pg) and kicked 25 goals (44th in the comp).

For a point of comparison:
Judd averaged the 7th most disposals that year (25.9pg), the most contested disposals (14.1pg), the most clearances (6.2pg), the 5th most centre clearances (2.7pg), the 10th most tackles (4.9pg), the 141st most clangers (lower is better)(2.1pg) and kicked 29 goals (37th in the comp).

Goodes had a great year but wasn't in the same ball park to the top mids (if you were comparing him to mids, which it appears you were). As a Utility, though, he would've been the pick of the bunch.

Goodes is an outstanding utility, and Pavlich an outstanding CHF, who both have played in teams that have had different playing styles, and different qualities of supporting players, which make them difficult to compare.

In the circumstances of their respective playing environments, I'd lean towards Pavlich as having been the better player.

FWIW, Pav averages better in each major statistical category save for tackling (-0.1pg) and hitouts (-3.2pg). Obviously, Goodes has played more matches (331 v 291).

Glad to see Pav will hit 300. Wish he'd been in Vic, so we could have seen more of him.
