Is the 1060 struggling with anything you're playing?

If you're looking to upgrade to a similar tier to what the 1060 was in its time then the 3060 is currently well available and back to what I'd consider not insane prices. They're back to around the $600-$700 mark. Some cheaper and the premium and TI models around $800. With the 12gb of VRAM these will last you as long as your 1060 if you're only sticking to 1080/1440 gaming, maybe light 4K settings. If you were looking to reach a bit more I'd look at a 3060ti before a 3070. The 3080s are down to the prices they should have been all along of around $1200-1500 depending on the make and model. Only the 4090 is rumoured to release this year with the rest of the 4000 series not until next year so I don't think there will be any drastic price cuts on the 3000 for a little while longer.

Not noticeably, but I’m thinking it’s a good time to start putting some money away towards one.

My monitors are only 1440p so maybe I’ll get away with a 3060.

Seeing the prices drop when I got my 3080ti for 2000+ :cryv1:

Always the case. But if we're going to always wait for the next price drop or the next big thing we'll always be waiting.

We're house shopping at the moment. Prices have dropped 10% in the last month and we know they'll drop more. Our finance is good for 4 months and at some point we know we have to pull the trigger knowing we'll see homes cheaper after we finally get something. With graphics cards we all could just wait for the prices to drop back to normal. Then we could wait for the next model. Then we could wait until after initial launch prices etc. The LG C1 I brought for console gaming I waited for a discount. A couple months after it got discounted cheaper. 4 or 5 months later the C2 comes out. You put the value on something at the time. If we always wait we're never getting anything.

So what you're saying is....go out and buy more stuff.

Srs tho...good luck with the house hunting, keep us updated :)

We should have waited a few more months and gotten a house instead the modest unit we got 5 years ago, but the price is good and value still holding really well. Few hundred bucks in the grand scheme of things when you have a mortgage isn't so bad :)

Yes

On the house, it's interesting at the moment. Interest rates are going up and prices are falling but of course it means the repayments are more. Stuff that was originally just out of reach is coming into budget so it's like we were just borrowing that much anyway. It also just means we have to be a bit more cautious and factor in some more inevitable rises. It's a buyer's market at the moment. Auction clearance rates have considerably dropped and some of the stuff that has been passed in has been selling for well under original asking price. And you're right in the grand scheme of things it's property and you'll almost always make money on it. Anything dropping in value will bounce back in 12-18 months and will appreciate in the years before we sell again. Any extra it costs in the immediate future will be a small price to pay for a larger windfall in the future. I can't wait to finally get something though because I'm having to be so tight with my cash right now and I've got things lined up I want to buy lol. We're only getting a unit too. We can get a house elsewhere but we decided we want to stay in bayside. It's only the two of us so we don't need huge amounts of space. Trying to avoid apartments because of the ridiculous OC fees.

Mate.....dealing with the biggest pack of campaigners managing our set of units. Fees have gone up expentionally but with no justification and they're being pack of campaigners about it. Make Newegg and Epic look like saints. Wish we stayed self managed and just dealt with extra bed ru

Our immediate family all lives in Bayside, but the wife couldn't handle us living at her folks any longer so we bit the bullet lol. Can't go wrong there though. It's crazy how many apartment buildings have gone up in the last few years. Bay Rd is crazy busy compared to 5-10 years ago.

Noticed on most of the Sections 32s we've been reading OC fees going up. At least on units it's more just for shared driveways and stuff. We're not far from Bay Rd, just on the otherside of Southland from there. Looking around Chelsea and Bonbeach now though, a bit quieter through there.

yeah I'm in that stage again of not sure if i should pull the pin or not - if I got a new build now it would be a rtx3080ti/5900x build with at least 64 gig ram for my music production/orchestration hobbies

but i could also wait a bit and new shit comes out, but will it even be worth getting the new AMD CPU's with expensive ddr5 ram etc? idk

With the 4000 stuff next year I'm just going to wait and see what the new gen and DDR5 platform is like and will decide on whether to build a whole new system or not.

It's got some nice flashing lights and works bloody good. He has been remotely running tests for me. What a guy.

Specs....well I have no idea but seems to work okay.

Scientists have confirmed that the more flashing lights it has the more powerful it is.

My 6900XT was $1999 in October and has dropped significantly since but still very happy with my decision. I built an amazing PC that will serve me for a long time to come and is easy to upgrade when necessary.

technology is always like this.

you want the new stuff when it comes out, you pay a premium.

At least you wont need to upgrade for a while.

The 4 series cards are supposed to be insane, but the power draw is also completely insane.

4080s are supposed to be a minimum 550w power draw on their own. N u t s

i have a 3060ti and i play 1440p on max settings (with ray tracing) with zero issues.

You do not need anything higher than a 3060ti to play 1440p unless you are playing 4k on max settings.

if you have a 3080 and are playing only on 1080p or 1440p you wasted about $1300 bucks lol - looks cool in your rig and all but a complete waste of money.

Yeah I think 3060 is the way to go

I have an AX1000 1000w supply. Bring it on.

that legit might be the minimum you need to run it lol

especially if you are going to OC

wonder how high the requirements will actually end up being after all the talk. even back when i got my PC people were talking about the upcoming gtx980 debating how it would need x amount of power even saying to get 800w PSU to be safe but then when it came out turns out you could easily run it on 550w probably even 450w if you really wanted to lmao

My iGame 3080 Vulcan OC is already rated higher than the reference board. Lovelace power/heating hysteria is starting to sound like the Ampere to Fermi comparisons last time. It's on TSMC N4 this time so can't be compared to Samsung's 8nm. 4090 and 4080 also on different dies this time (102 to 103 respectively, like it was more commonly pre-Ampere). So either the 4090 rumours of 450w are correct and the 4080 is sub 400w, or the 4080 rumour of 420w is correct and the 4090 has to be over 500w. With the reported power + perf increases and huge core differences only one of them can really be correct. I think I read that even Navi 31 will have a 350-400w tdp. Everything should be taken with a grain of salt right now.

I'd happily game on 1080p on the highest card purely for that extra fps on the same resolution (compared to a lower spec card).

On my older pc I used to game on lower resolutions for that extra fps boost (460ti-560ti era).

That said I currently do have it on 3840 x 2160 a lot lol.

I've been able to get my 6900XT pulling close to 400W. Going to be interesting to see just what the nextgen cards will draw.

People are gonna need good cases/cooling.
