Is it worth getting games on Steam if you own them already on the EA app? Mass Effect: LE. Andromeda, Dragon Age 2, Origins, and Inquisition are $27 as a bundle on Steam but I own them all on EA. I essentially want my games on the one app and I am hoping that through the Steam settings I can fix some controller issues I have been having on the ME games. But, with them supposedly opening through the EA app anyway when launched on Steam I don't really know if it is worth doing.

Not really no, I have them on both and don't use the Steam options at all as they do indeed use the same launcher and it's literally just a straight rip, bugs and all the only real difference is of course what you can do with Steam assets versus what was Origin and is now that abortion that is the EA launcher.

I'm not even sure Steam settings would have much affect. Steam is always going to just point to the other launcher regardless which can't be bypassed for DRM reasons and it's that launcher which is going to launch the executable.

I'm having problems with the right stick which I am assuming is a dead zone issue that I have been unable to fix. After some investigating when I was doing a play through of Andromeda a couple of weeks ago, I have seen people that had the game through Steam say that the controller settings on Steam helped them fix the same issue. I assumed it was just an Andromeda issue but then I launched ME3 and had the same issue.

I have only had the issue with EA games so I was hoping that I could fiddle around in the steam controller settings to try and fix it or at least make it a bit more manageable.

What controller are you using? Controller issues on PC can be tricky to nail down the cause. A few years back I had one that was intermittent only with Rocket League. It was a known issue but nobody could ever find the exact reason or a reliable fix.

If you don't mind blowing a few dollars for science it might not hurt testing with a single game on Steam. But as you know it will just point to the EA launcher anyway and the EA launcher is still going to open the game.

I am using a standard Xbox controller.

I am using a standard Xbox controller.

I tried having a look around to see if there were any suggestions that might help but haven't really been able to find anything.

Are you using a wired controller or wireless with the Xbox USB dongle thingy? I use an Xbox elite controller with the wireless thing and I remember it never used to auto install properly and I had to download some package from Microsoft and manually install it. This happened with every new Windows 10 installation however it had no issues auto installing on Windows 11. So I'm not sure how much this will help other than just saying the Windows Xbox controller drivers are a little buggy, especially if you're on Windows 10. So I don't know if it's worth maybe checking your device manager or something for maybe any errors or if you can reinstall the drivers or something.

Also I just noticed EA publisher sale on Steam so if you didn't mind wasting a few dollars for science then this would be the perfect weekend to test out if there are any differences.

Strange issue i'm getting on an Asrock X570m pro4

Rebooted and now it won't POST, or even get to BIOS. CPU and DRAM LED's are both red

any ideas dwwaino ?

It doesn't reboot, it just stays on

So firstly, from personal experience is the monitor turned on? 😶

Also, any debug codes on the board? Typically for any hardware failure it will at least try to post unless the motherboard is toast. In the two motherboards I've lost in my time they both failed to post - one just powered on and did nothing and the other went into a boot loop.

yeah, the monitor is on.

Board doesn't have debug codes, just the LED's.

Do you have spare parts to swap in to check?

Yeah, I've tried replacing the CPU and the RAM.

Still the same.

Got a guy coming around to check it for $30, if he can't figure out what's wrong with it, I'm gonna have to assume its the Mobo and get another x570 board

Yeah, I've tried replacing the CPU and the RAM.
Hopefully he'll check PSU and have a working mobo to make sure all components are working.

The beast is dead

We have the technology, we can rebuild him...

anyone got a sit/stand desk here? I've seen the Zen Space Desks is like $700 off the rubberwood desk if you buy the grey or white base instead of black atm. I want the big size 2000m x 750mm. any general reviews of any usual brands or other suggestions?

I have an Omnidesk. Never use it to stand but adjustable to the exact height is nice. It feels quality too. I went with 1500x760 to fit my area and it fits two monitors and a tower. One of the monitors is on an angle but it's still a reasonable fit.

If you want to go cheaper, you can just buy a dual motor sit-stand frame for like $250 and then get a Bunnings/Ikea bench top for like $150. In most cases that will get you to 90% of what a Zendesk/Omnidesk one would

cheers guys, yeah my current desk is around 1800x580 and I definitely want a bit bigger next due to all my music gear and exact height adjustment for sitting like dwwaino said even if I won't stand too much

I'll keep looking around, nothing seems exact right size when I mix and match a base and something from Bunnings etc and I'm not too sure about getting custom size thing cut but maybe I could investigate that to save a bit

Keep an eye on Ozbargain for sales, Zen Space seem to have specials fairly often, you might be able to buy a frame from them and bolt a table top or kitchen bench top to it to get the size you're after
