I know I harp on about it... but this is my IBM Model M keyboard I bought new 37 years ago and still use every single day.

The pic was from early 2014.
Ahhhh, you're one of those people, although unless you've got the matching IBM Model 6450350 mouse you're just pretending :p

Just received my new Commodore 64.

I will update with information if anyone is interested.

Is this the C64 Ultimate? Was keen but not sure I could justify it at the cost.

Ended up got the C64 themed 8bitdo keyboard the other day.

Yes, the Ultimate, cost me more than I should've spent on it.

Going from a curved to a flat takes more adjustment than the other way around. It felt like the flat monitor was actually curved backwards!
I think I've broken my eyeballs, I've got a curved and a straight next to each other and barely notice a difference. Same with going from my 32" 4K flat at work to one of the 34" ultrawides the plebs use

The pre-built I bought during covid lockdown - and have upgraded parts since - has had one of the RAM modules fail in recent months
.
So I am now running 2x DDR4 and 1x low profile DDR4 (for AIO clearance). It hasn't bothered me too much to replace albeit not ideal having a module in single channel.

But having received a death estate payout recently I thought I'd replace it.
**** me sideways. Just a basic 8-16gb low profile ddr4 (singular kingston replacement or new 2 stick set) is like asking the bank for a small loan.

At this point it's probably cheaper to buy a couple of refurbed HP/Dell desktops and rip out the RAM

I've been wanting to upgrade from 16gb to 32gb for a while now and the prices just make it see not worth it- especially since I am planning on an upgrade in the next couple of years.

Just picked up a PNY 5070 12gb to get me by for the next couple of years until I can justify a full rebuild.
Came from a 2080 Super 8gb for reference. Still running an i7-10700k and 2x16gb 3600 sticks of ddr4 ram.

Man I'm kicking myself for not upgrading my PC at the end of 2024. Ryzen 5 3600 and 32GB is OK for what I do, but the 4GB GTX1050ti is not quite up to snuff these days.

You should still be able to upgrade your card though while saving some money. If you can get a decently priced 40 series or a 5070 you could probably avoid most bottlenecking as long as you arent playing 1080p? Would also have to take your psu into consideration, forgot about that.

Just as an aside, my work laptop has just been upgraded through normal rotation. Decided I'd like to buy my 4-year-old one rather than give it back. Historically these deals have been around $100-$150. Just checked the second hand market and the identical machine is $700 on fb marketplace. I'll ask on Tuesday but I'm not hopeful :(

Edit: Just checked my account at CPL Online. I bought a 500GB SSD 24 months ago for $38. The identical disk is now $122. Is bullsheet!

Ok, need some suggestions.

I would like to setup up a home media server but not sure where to start, been doing some light read and price check but storage hasn't gotten cheaper over the years...

Has anyone setup a media centre for home?
Should steer towards NAS, DAS + mini PC or other?

I currently have 9tb of WD external storage devices sitting in a box full of media. Would like to consolidate it into one instead of connecting three seperate devices to the TV to watch media.

Been baffled for a few weeks why when playing games my GPU is regularly hitting 90c temps and giving me 'too hot' warnings despite regularly cleaning out dust. Having ample fans with suitable pressure. Having checked CPU for adequate thermal paste and having a CPU AIO. Even started thinking maybe it was just the warm summer air.

Found out somewhere along the line the pre-installed MSI Afterburner software had somehow been deleted and thus my fan curve was insufficient. Like 30% speed at 90c.

Sometimes solutions are so simple they're overlooked.

Yep, always look at the dumb simple shit before you spend hours messing with things or go scorched earth.

Yeah I've got a 4 bay QNAP NAS with 3x 16TB and an older 8TB, also got the matching 4 bay extension for it but it's not really being used at the moment, it was mainly for shuffling data to the new disks. Just running all the disks as individual volumes because I can't be bothered with RAID.

The NAS is a bit shit at transcoding x265/h265 codecs and subs so I have an old Intel NUC running Linux with Emby on it as my media library, and I've got a NVidia Shield and Google Chromecast as media players.

When I upgrade I'm almost tempted to just go back to a dedicated Windows box, it's just less messing around.

I real FML moment.

Have recently been receiving messages from various games that I need TPM 2.0 and secure boot.
And the messages vary. Some will threaten an inability to play, or a set day where these would need be rectified to play said game.

Mine was based around the bios version.
So I updated the bios and then returned to a blank desktop and all my taskbar pinned programs missing.

Couldn't find desktop manually as it gave a 'one drive' missing message for the drive location. Re-subscribed to one drive (begrudgingly) and still nothing. Then saw that the drive that contained desktop was missing.

Went into bios and saw that my x16 pcie slot had defaulted from the bifurcation settings I had for my NVME hyperdrive.
... and problem solved.

Now I have a month of that one drive garbage
:sadv1:
