Not holding my breath I'll be able to secure a card very quickly anymore. Too many comments and reports from distributors and various sources that 5080 supply is extremely thin but better than 5090 which is still non-existent in palaces. This is going to be another paper launch but surely we'll never see a repeat of the 30 series again. Best I hope I can manage is the stores don't block orders so at least I can get a 5090 order in at launch price before they inevitably increase.

It's interesting because I read a bunch of posts about some random german saying stock will be really low but then in the comments a heap of people saying they talked to their local stores and we're told stock would be way better than last couple generations so idk what to believe

Yeah I dunno as well. I've read that stock is OK without being great but reading more about it being shit. I wouldn't be surprised if US is getting stocked to beat tariffs at the expense of smaller markets which might be why there are heaps of different reports.

I don't get why it's so secretive. Now that the MSRP is known I don't know why they have to hide the price of the other cards until launch. At least let people plan their budgets.

5090 reviews are out. It seems to be not worth it- especially if you play at anything other than 4k.

HUB's benchmarks aren't a great endorsement for the card. The tl:dr is that Steve thinks it is a 4090ti since the performance gains aren't anywhere near what they saw between the 3090 and 4090.

Jayz benchmarks were pretty similar to HUB.

Reviewers already have 4090s in their systems and are comparing going from a 4090 to 5090. A lot of the tests look CPU bound but 4K full RT there are some pretty substantial gains.

Reviewing a flagship can be weird when it comes to value and recommendation. It's not like you can buy a 4090 anymore (and the last remaining ones are nearly 5090 prices) so coming from anything else there is a significant gain and it's still going to be the fastest card of the generation. I'm sure reviewers will still be putting them in their personal rigs. Blackwell is on the same node as Ada so the generational uplift wasn't going to be the same as previous gens but give me that MFG to max out monitor refresh rates. Interested for the AIB reviews though to compare coolers.

Hopefully this puts off a few and means less fighting to for the two 5090s that will be available next week.

Igor's Lab is one of the more interesting ones as most reviewers are just running numbers and feeding graphs. Igor's review looks more at the technology and I do find the stuff on DLSS 4 appealing. I have a rule where I generally won't drop DLSS from Quality as below that is where you start to run into anomalies but apparently even Performance is greatly improved.

I don't think these reviews have thrown any surprises given the shader and core count etc that was already known. It's definitely a fairly linear upgrade like Pascal to Turing. The only concerning thing so far is the amount of power and heat these things are churning. RIP to anyone on an air tower cooler with a 5090 but I also suspect the AIBs will behave a little differently due to both their size and not going with the same pull through design of the FE.

In terms of generations if you want to think about it that way to think up some plans, Zen 6 which I'm pretty sure will still be on AM5 is due around late 26/early 27, and next gen NVIDIA will probably be mid to late next year. 4000 series was a bit longer than usual (apparently RTX50 was originally planned for late last year) so I'm expecting this new generation to be a little shorter.

Just looping back on this, would upgrading to a 5080 and 5700x3D worth getting with my rig? Or just hold off till I'm ready for a new build?

The worthiness is obviously subjective, but the 5700x3d is purely to alleviate any/most bottlenecks. Even my 5900x is a bottleneck at times. Then the graphics card will be just what you want to spend vs performance. We're going to need to wait for benchmarks which are still coming but the 5080 would give you more performance, but just wait to keep an eye on the 5070ti. It uses the same memory and has the same amount of memory as the 5080 and isn't too far shy in terms of shaders and RT cores and obviously will be better on the wallet. I'd wager it will come in very closely with the 4080 as the specs are similar. If you're planning on keeping it for a while then both the 5080 and 5070ti will have very similar longevity.

Reviews are really good. Significantly lower temps than FE and actually performs about 8% better. I think the 5080 works out to be really bad value but the 5090 after you convert it to AUD, add GST and general Australian markup if that can stay mid 5s then I think that's really good. Otherwise the Suprim should be significantly cheaper but doesn't seem to be much of an improvement over the FE.

I'm spending way too long on Reddit sifting through info so everyone is going to have to bear with me while I constantly post upates and info I find. Of course retailers could just announce the ****ing prices and allow people to plan their budgets.

Canadian 5080 and 5090 pricing. Surely it's close to prices here given CAD and AUD are close to parity. I thought Canada includes tax in price but Google says no so to work out some ballpark prices of a few cards by doing conversion, adding GST and typical Aus markup

5080 Gaming Trio OC - $1799CAD - $2400AUD
5080 Zotac Solid - $1499CAD - $1900AUD

5090 Aorus Master OC - $3599CAD - $4600AUD
5090 Windforce OC - $2899CAD - $3800AUD (outlier because not only is it less than MSRP but I doubt any 5090 will sell less for what 4090s have been going for prior to being discontinued)
5090 Astral OC - $4059CAD - $5400AUD

Also something interesting regarding PSUs for any other idiot who thinks a 5090 isn't an irresponsible purchase. NVIDIA have stated that a 1000w PSU is recommended for the 5090, however Intel in the past have indicated that 1000w PSUs only set the 12v2x6 to 450w maximum, while those 1100w and over should have 600w on the connector. Not all PSUs follow this scheme but there is a chance that some 1000w PSUs won't actually handle 5090s. He also recommends against any 1000w at all for Intel based systems.

In case anyone doesn't know this is the bloke behind the new Cybernetics standard.

After reading your recent posts about 80/90 costs. I reckon 5070ti will be the go, and a good in-between upgrade. Plus there's a few other hobby purchases I wanna make.

Bloody hard balancing between voice in your head that says "pump $ into your mortgage". But we're here for a good time, not a long one. Wife and I don't and won't have kids, don't go out and get on this piss either. Got enjoy life and hard work in the end eh?
