it's just so so easy to make those calls on a Sunday morning after someone like Pearce has had such a good game. My frustration is not aimed soley at you but we seem to have a lot of "after the fact" experts here who never go out on a limb....snipe at those who do....then roll out the "told ya so's" after the event.

Why cant we celebrate the VBs, Knights, Ruttens, Hentchells, McLeods, Ricciutos, Douglas's and every other good recruiting move we've made rather than thinking the grass is always greener ?

Fair enough Mad Dog ,but check my posts - Im convinced about Vince, The Black Douglas, Dougie does well, a Knight's tale, Jessie Aish, the Mattner train, No Doubts about Doughty etc to see how much I have supported the young talent in our side.

I am prepared ot stick out my neck and sometimes I get it wrong - Massie and Bode a case in point.:D :o

Meh same thing happened to us with Dal Santo. Recruiters are never going to be perfect so why blame them? With our picks in that year are

8. John Messen - Progressing nicely
24. Nathan Van Berlo - In senior side for about a year now.
28. Chad Gibson - Cursed by injury
40. Ivan Maric - Progressing very well, played AFL
56. Chris Knights - Steal at 56, has played multiple AFL games.

Rookie Draft

Ryan Nye - Gone
Johnathon Griffin - Coming along, Upgraded to senior list.
John Hinge - Upgraded to senior list.

At this stage you'd say the recruiters only made one mistake in retrospect to that draft and that was in the fish barrel of the rookie draft! It's immarure and unrealistic to start bagging them over one player.

PS

I think Pearce will be gun.

I am more p1ssed off at the fact that we missed the opportunity for a bloke called Pavlich. Who cares about Pearce? Yeah he is an ok player, but I am quite happy with my team (with some quality young players) that are currently sitting top prior to the conclusion of the WC game v Demons.

That's not fair...you can't have every good player....we did get Kenny instead....be grateful for that

I didnt mean to bag Kenny...I said I was quite happy with my team....But you cant help but dream of having Pav aswell as Kenny.

Was against the rules. Each team could only select one 17 year old. Ours was McGregor. Look it up we did a hell of alot than most teams.

I know that. I am now talking in present tense not past. Obviously Pav has not had a huge influence on the club, because Fremantle aren't as successful as they could be. Im happy with Kenny atm, but looking to the future, I would love to see both of them on our Half Foward line.

Back to Pearce ......

Well, you win some, you lose some.

Saw Jarman predicted in this morning's paper that Pearce could be better than McLeod. I reckon that's a bit of a stretch.

Pearce has great speed and a wonderful work ethic but his finishing skills still need a bit of work IMO. Perhaps that will come with time.

Merge this thread with the other one where dyertribe is talking about how the crowd focusses on negatives all the time.

Yes, we missed Pearce. As has been pointed out, so did everyone else.

On the flip side, no-one thought Bock, Rutten or Mattner could play either yet we rookied them.

The draft is never going to be a place where you can claim 100% success. The rookie draft moreso. IMHO, just so long as we stay in the black and have more wins than losses at either the draft or trade table - then I'm happy. If that means we miss out on rookieing a Pearce but pick up a Rutten, so be it. I'd only be jumping on the recruiters if we make stuff-ups of the Angwin magnitude or the A McLeod for C Groom variety.

Jeez Mad Dog, Ayres has been gone for so long yet his reign still seems to be affecting you ;)

But I do agree with your sentiments....As for this thread, and some others lately, there seems to be a lot of monday experts on this board and a fair amount of negativity in general....call it nit picking.

Let's just be glad that the team is going well, the squad is playing for the jumper and we have some great youngsters coming through who, with the right guidance from our clearly talented and thorough coaching panel, should see our club continue to prosper in the future.

surely hes not serious :D

Yeah, I had to look twice.

I don't want to undersell Pearce - he's an exciting prospect.

But potentially better than McLeod??? That's a very big call.
I reckon Jars is just trying to get in the good books with the Port Power supporters....he's been pretty tough on them lately...:D

FWIW, we picked him up in the rookie draft. So there was plenty of chance for him to slip the net. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

It's a brave prediction, but if you stack up their respective stats at AFL level at similar stages of their career, Pearce does pretty well.

I think Pearce is a very exciting young player and, on raw stats, he may well compare favourably to McLeod at the same stage. However, in my opinion, McLeod's pure footballing skills (even in his early days) outweigh those of Pearce.

I have been a very strong supporter of the Recruiting committee in recent years, but I do think they made a very poor error of judgement in not picking up Pearce.

It is my undersranding we gave up Pearce for one Ryan Nye.

Well Nye has gone nye nye, and Pearce continues to Pearce me off with his good football for the Power.

I suppose you cannot have every thing, but he would have been a valuable addition to our lineup.

we made a bad mistake here - in hindsight. thankfuly weve been getting lots more right than wrong lately :thumbsu:

To summarize this issue your right the good outweighs the bad.

There are just as many of the pearce type stories at EVERY club not just ours.

exactly right. its not possible to get it 100% right all the time. perhaps it also indicates craigs reluctance to recruit certain types of players. As Septemberchokes loves to get himself worked up into a sweat by mentioning we seem to be stocking up on hard as nails types in the last 2 drafting periods.

Well we sure as hell got the Daniel Motlop one right in terms of choosing not waste our time and money on him.

Letting Port Power trade their first pick for that hack was the right decision.
