I am not at the game, this is my guessing report to entertain commercial break.

Croz, deboer, Silva, ryhuis, uebergang , Collins, yarran , Ethan turn up for peel.

Yarran kick a few goal.
Peel best three freo player
Silva, deboer,croz

Peel hardest player
Brady.

Do you think Crozier is in enough form to challenge for a spot in the first part of the season, or his he further behind than ever? Interesting how I always thought he was the most likely out of he and Sheridan to 'make it', yet Sheridan is now rated by his AFL peers as a chance to become 'elite' this season.

Which Fremantle players turned out for Peel?
Who kicked the goals?
If Yarran played how did he go?
Who in your opinion were Peel's best three player ?
I'll probably miss some, but here we go:

Jack Hannath
Tanner Smith
Brady Grey
Alex Pearce
Hayden Crozier
Matt DeBoer
Connor Blakely
Ed Langdon
Matt Uebergang
Ethan Hughes

Didn't see Yarran. There were a couple of players I didn't recognize not sure if they were Freo players or not.

Best by a long stretch for me was Alex Silvagni, Connor Blakely also very good as was Matt DeBoer.

I'm not sure what's gone wrong with Crozier. I was like you thought he was the next big thing, but for me he was just very average today. At times he looked like he had a bit of the Colin Sylvias about him. Hopefully he was under instructions not to go too hard because it was only a scratchie, but he looked disinterested at times.

Still hold out hopes for him, but not his day today.

Thoughts on Grey, Langdon, Hughes, Uber?
Brady was really good, he loves to put hurt on opposition, runs all day and was very creative. His kicking is still a big issue though. I watched him in the warmup and he has some mechanical issues with his kicking, could not hit a target from 20 metres. Having said that, he knows how to play within his limitations and definitely has some opposition players looking around for him.

Langdon ran all day, combines well with Connor Blakely and I think those two are working n their chemistry - Connor in hard and under, out to Langdon on the outside. He needs to work on his left foot kicking as he made a couple of real blunders being unable to use his left. Definitely a prospect though.

Hughes started really rusty and made a lot of mistakes early. Worked his way into it and in the second half took some really telling marks and read the game very much Ibbo style. Another who is not a reliable kick and one in particular was across the ground straight to an opposition player. Would give him a pass mark for the game.

Uebergang got me really excited. Not sure how many goals he kicked, but at least two, and set up a couple of others. He took a couple of really good pack marks, a couple on the lead and a sliding mark in the goal square. For such a big guy he is very mobile, and I think he is a great prospect. He kind of reminds me a it of Sean Hurley the way he plays the game. Lots to learn, and a long way off AFL standard, but has a lot of the attributes we need in coming years.

How was de Boer good? Clean hands? Inside possessions?
Matty was really good, as you would expect. Tough on the inside, ran and presented all day and was one of our best. Which is good in one way, but not so good when you think he is probably still fringe best 22. I think we will be a better team when guys like him are outside our best 26 - 28 but that is a long way off yet.

Edit: I should have said that I thought Connor Blakely was actually better than Matt today, which I guess is a promising sign for the future.

It was way too hot to be watching football today, let alone playing it. All the same I was keen to catch a glimpse of the new guys particularly after a summer of encouraging training reports. Unfortunately I left the game a little disappointed. Most of the performances were subdued, but the new guys were dealing with oppressive weather, new team mates and unfamiliar surroundings so I assume all these factors contributed to producing an underwhelming hit out.
I was sitting in the members stand and at qtr time the coaches brought the players over into the shade of the old stand. I could hear every word the coaches said without leaving my seat which was pretty cool. Hale spoke to the players for some time before Cam came to the group. He's my new favourite assistant coach, I loved listening to what he said. I reckon that guy is a senior coach in the making. Very level headed, he was calm and spoke clearly to the group and delivered a simple message about forward setup. And for a casual observer like me I immediately understood how they wanted to move the ball inside the f50 and how they wanted the forwards to circulate through there, providing a lead and, if not honoured, to clear out and open up space for the next forward in the circulation. Hale might be the pickup of the summer.
DeBoer was Peel's best player but he's clearly outside the best 22 for Freo now. He attacked the ball ferociously and won a heap of centre clearances.
Crozier did his usual stuff, hard chasing, lunging tackles and some lovely long kicks but he went missing too frequently. He didn't stake a claim for a crack at the first 22.
Tanner looked OK up forward, he out pointed Ames in some one on one duals and looks much better when he's not accountable for another player. He could make it, but he's right on the cusp and is backup for a pinch hitting forward or defender at best.
I was a little disappointed with Uber, though I realise that is being a bit unrealistic given it was his first game in horrible conditions. It's just that the training reports had led me to believe he was much better than the player I saw today. He looks a little "heavy" to me in a Brian Lake sort of way and could do with another pre season straight away. He played up forward with Tanner but was easily held by Ames in a couple of contests. Last year's crop of kids spoiled us. Each of them showed something from their very first game but Uber will need plenty of time to develop. He did a couple of nice things, he kicked a goal in the first qtr and walked through a tackle in the second before firing off a hard low kick into the centre of the ground which only just missed its target. He kicked a good centering ball off a step on the boundary in the third which found its target and resulted in a goal. He looks a bit lackadaisical and slow at times but he can put on a spurt of speed when required. He dropped nearly every contested mark that I saw.
Nyhuis was virtually unsighted in the first half, the only time I saw him was when he was running to the bench. He improved a little bit in the second half. He went back with the flight on no less than 3 occasions in the last qtr and effected some good spoils without infringing, which was a positive sign. He also ran through the centre of the ground in the last and delivered the ball nicely by foot. He's a handy size and there's definitely something to work with there. He will probably get better with a few more games and when he becomes more familiar with his team mates.
Deluca looks a bit fitter this year and played ok. He sharked a nice goal off the pack in the second.
Yarran and Tucker had a kick to each other before the game started. Tucker is an impressive athlete when you see him close up.

Post if the year
Thank you

No, didn't see him Fred.
thanks Dudley much appreciated I think Ethan , grey should be given every opportunity to expose to afl level, the three amigo Blakey , Langdon and Weller is a matter of time. With yarran and mora thunder will be back up for freo.

Did Tanner Smith play up forward?
He did One_Wing but had a pretty poor game. Uebergang played alongside and marked, ran, tackled and kicked better than Tanner. He tries hard, but just doesn't seem to be an intuitive footballer. I had hopes for him, but I think Sam Collins is a better defender and Uebuergang (on today's showing) is a better forward.

If you are going to be watching Peel this year you will have a lot of fun I think meima. It even seemed to me that the non-Freo Peel players were getting with the agenda and there were a couple of really good performers. Unfortunately I don't know a lot of them so I can't praise them individually, but there didn't seem to be as many weak links as there were last year. And I would think on a normal week we would have had at least two or three more Freo players at Peel. :thumbsu:

Sorry if this has already been covered, but did Tucker play?

Thats unfortunate by the sounds of things he was a more natural forward then Defender but yeah if other young talls can make more impact on their first year on Freos list then that is probably it for him.

I didn't recognize him out there PurpleReign. There were a couple of guys who played well who I didn't know, but I think I would have recognized Darcy if he was there.
Rhyhuis and darcy , yarran , smith uber spend time on Friday training session I not surprise if you miss yarran and darcy.

Isn't it Ryan Nyhuis? I see Ryhuis being thrown around alot here lately.

Sounds like promising signs re: Uebergang, hopefully he can have the same semi-meteoric rise in development as Alex Pearce. He sounds like a prospect in the similar mold of athletic KP swingman.
