most players break out year seems to be the third year

so perhaps 08 will be when pendles, thomas really step it up

look out for ego, rus & t.cloke in 07

spot on , my advise to those who have their hopes up is not to be to hard on these kids(thomas and pendles etc) if they dont quite live up to expectations. Egan and cloke coped alot of flack early last year and it was not until late in the season they started to hit their straps. They now seem set to take the next step. I have the same expectation for these 2.

Pendles and thomas would not have had a fll pre season like they are having now. This can(not in all cases) take the wind out of their sails.

Disagree with all of this - Dal Santo is not that outside, he just makes it look that way.

Both Dal Santo and Pendlebury are incredibly good in close quarters and heavy traffic, especially at making it look like they have all the time in the world.

However, both are somewhat outside to a degree, because of this ability. They would be totally sacrificing that evasive skill if they were on their hands and knees at the bottom of a pack like Daniel Cross, who neither of them resembles at all.

Inside/Outside??? It's all crap! You're either a midfielder or not. Rather than differentiate between Inside or Outside I have come up with a simple formula to distinguish between midfielders...Can's and Cannots...Those who can win the footy and those who can not. Generally the one's who can win their own footy spend most time in the midfield. To me, Outside Midfielder is a wingman/HFF...

Looking forward to seeing this kid develop . As stated has qualities that can't be taught . He has obvious basketball skills and they should serve him in good stead for footy .
It's hard to believe he hasn't been playing the game at a serious level for very long and he has a big ceiling but development is always guesswork but he has some wonderful tools to begin with .
A certain 'something' about him .

Davis Fanning had good basketball skills and look where that got him.
Other than that I think Pendlebury will be a great player for our club, I think 2008 will be his standout year. I hope he does well in 2007

The difference between Fanning and Pendles is, Pendles already has great footy attributes. The basketball skills just add an extra dimension to his game. Fanning on the other hand was a project player. As a project player he perhaps should hae been given another season to prove himself. Anyway he's gone now and that's that I guess.

2 Years, is that all, thats not very long.
How old is he?
I am really looking forward to seeing him play in the NAB Cup to see how he goes, maybe even buy him for my dream team.

Win-the-ball is the inside bit, Do-something-really-good-with-it is the outside bit. There's plenty of players with one but not the other to any special degree.

Just checked it he's 19, he turned 19 early Janurary.

I didn't mean he's only played footy for two years, I meant he played a full two years of footy before getting drafted. The two years PRIOR to these two years were spent concentrating on basketball before he changed his mind and concetrated on footy. Before switching to basketball he probably played all sorts of sports since he was only 14 or so.

EDIT: I was wrong.

From the footy draft website.

http://www.footydraft.com/players.php?player=scott_pendlebury

"A bloke who has really come out of nowhere. Pendlebury’s main focus had been on basketball for the last few years. Having taken up a scholarship in basketball with the AIS and representing Australia at junior levels, Pendlebury called it quits after a couple of weeks to see whether he could make a name for himself in the footy world – a gamble that appears will come off in this year’s National Draft."

"Statistics:
2004 TAC Cup: Did not play
2005 Under 18 championships: 2 games, 0 goals, average 17.5 PPG
2005 TAC Cup: 19 games, 11 goals, average 22.6 PPG, 7 times in best"

Again to support this he is listed in the AIS squad for 2005, he probably pulled out later as is suggested on footydraft.

For some reason I remember reading Wiz's report about Scott stating his 2004 stats. Anyway I'm pretty sure he only concentrated exclusively on basketball for 2 years and has pretty much played footy for most of his life and has tried to balance both sports untill he made the decision to concentrate on basketball but then changed his mind.

Also noteworthy he played with the shoe-in for rookie of the year in the NBL Joe Ingles.
