FFS the government has already said there is nothing like that going to happen so let it go.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-05-21/exclusive-seat-sales-considered-as-part-of-new-stadium/5468930'

The Government is considering offering exclusive memberships at the new Burswood stadium, sparking fears there will be fewer seats available for ordinary Perth families.

Sports Minister Terry Waldron has refused to rule out a membership scheme at the new facility.

They are not the same types of membership as what Kwality is talking about. They are mainly corporate packages and they usually have a very limited number of members at a time which would be focused on business. They are nothing like the MCG memberships which have huge volume. These type of packages would not compete at all with the clubs memberships. For example the etihad stadium ones as the article is referring too start at $225 A MONTH per ticket . Trust me if there is something like that where businesses want to pay that much which reduces the price of my ticket I don't really mind.

Wookie understands me 96, you are believing your own spin - dont ever remember voicing a view on corporates.
So 96, footy fans join a cricket club (MCC) to go to the footy, not at the new stadium pls.
The AFL Members Club competes directly with the Melbourne clubs for members, not for WA pls.

Are you across Adelaide Oval arrangements 96?

That's what I am saying the government has come out saying that those type of memberships will not be available. The only reason the stadium memberships are in place at the older stadiums is because they were originally cricket grounds so when they became cricket/football grounds the memberships had to stay. The AFL memberships only work in Melbourne so they won't compete here.

What I was referring to was the article wookie quoted from where it used the Etihad stadium memberships as an example where they are mostly corporate.

They could go the SMA route in Adelaide. Its about 8,000 seats IIRC.

Bear in mind the SMA memberships are purely for footy. They tried the footy/cricket type but no one wanted them.

In an ideal world the SMA membership would be phased out as a legacy of the old Footy Park Category 1 membership and more Essnential Crows/Power memberships open up for the respective clubs but can't see that happening.

So Bruce, how would you address the issue for the new Perth stadium in a couple of seasons?

The typical AFL set up should be:
10,000 regular tickets (as the government had says could be the case, my opinion should be less)
45,000-49,000 club member tickets
1,000-5,000 corporate tickets (suites, high end club for businesses)

MCC members & Medallion Club members are a legitimate part of the business model for the MCG & Docklands, not one I would like repeated in WA.

There was a WANFL Members Club before the WAFC days who had priority seating just as the AFL Members do at the MCG & Etihad (not Geelong).

My concern is footy club members not corporates & will remain so until the rules of engagement are in black & white , delivered & operable - dont have a lot of faith in politicians.

Its a big call for something not even built yet.
Not really. Spend 1.3 Billion, you'd expect to get something decent. There is one thing the WA government seem to do well and that's put a high end spec on everything it builds. It might be too small, over budget and 5 years late but it always looks flash. Perth Entertainment Centre is an example.

The PEC was knocked down.

They never do a half asked job thats for sure like with the arena everyone whinged about it then they realised it was brilliant when it opened.

That's what I was thinking, I have a feeling he meant the Arena but when the Entertainment centre was built it was pretty impressive for its time as well.

Yep, the arena. I'll probably call the new Footy stadium Subi for awhile too.

The arena had a lot of issues. More than being gold plated.

I suggest you read the auditor generals report into it. So far the Perth Stadium has been the complete opposite, slower and more comprehensive design and tender process should help keep the costs lower. That and a flat economy and lower construction costs. Per seat the arena is one of the worlds most expensive.

Sure, but my point was we often gold plate things so they end up good, not value for money.

In Adelaide, I don't really hear much about the plans in relation to development processes or current updates, but really hope this stadium goes to plan. I've been to Subi a few times and it had a striking relation to AAMI stadium, many enjoyed our old museum it but I hated it. Old fashioned stadium for a new modern era.

So the new stadium is exactly what Western Australia needs, not saying anything is wrong with Subi, but it's time for an upgrade. And once you move into the new home, your perspective changes dramatically. There's a whole new vibe in the city, footy becomes more of a religion and the battle for bragging rights turns into a warzone.

Once this stadium goes up, I'll be a frequent visitor

There's plenty wrong with subi. Haven't read the whole thread but I can't imagine anyone saying different.

It's not that bad. Not like it's totally unwatchable....is it?
Depends where you sit.
Behind the goals at the 3 tier stand end the benches are so close together its more unsittable than unwatchable.
I used to sit on the outer side, block 313 i think, and on the many Sunday afternoon games with the sun in your eyes it is very much unwatchable (though that would probably be for most stadiums). Nights games were decent. Add to that the terrible food and toilet facilities.

Its probably just me whinging, but I can't wait till the new stadium is complete.

I worry about this. The Eagles currently have a long waiting list for seated memberships. I'm pretty sure we're sitting on about 60K members of all types at the moment. The dockers are probably pretty close behind. It looks like there is still going to be a waiting list for seats. Make it 70 000 at least while it's being built, rather than modifying it in a few years' time.

When demand exceeds supply the financial future of the facility is in better nick - think Adelaide Oval.

I'm not that worried about it. I think that if there is a significant allocation of GA tickets, like the 10,000 figure being floated about, then many will be content to let go of their memberships and just turn up for 3 or 4 games a year on a GA ticket. There's lot of members that don't go to all 11 games at Subi, but they hold on to their memberships because they know if they let it go they'll have to wait years to get it back.

Exactly, Another example is english Soccer stadiums where a lot of clubs could probably fill 90,000 stadium for a lot of games but they only make them around 60,000 which means they always have a full house, better for finances and atmosphere.

Also very true, I would not be surprised one bit if there us a decrease in both clubs in memberships as there are many people that just hold onto seats so it is always available but when getting a normal seat is so easy people may discard them and just buy tickets to the games they want.
