Both were tremendously gifted players back in their heyday, but I would have chosen Daicos over Ablett. Daics was under-rated by many AFL followers, because you had Ablett playing very good football, many forgot how good Daics really was. Daics used to kick more goals than Ablett every time we came up against Geelong. Ablett would have kicked 7-8 goals against Collingwood, while Daicos would have kicked 9-10 goals against Geelong in that same match.

I don't believe anyone in their right mind has or would ever underrate the 'Macedonian Marvel'. He was a quality player with freakish abilities but not in the same class as GOD. Both could make the impossible look easy but Ablett kicked over 1000 goals.

Don't get me wrong Coin toss, Daics was a great player who I used to love watch and has probably brought more fans through the gates than any Pies player in the last 25 years but he is not even close to Ablett. Ablett is up there with the Matthews and Careys of the world and Daics just couldn't dominate games week in week out the same way these guys did . I love the bloke but not a fair comparison IMO

the perfect example of Collingwood fans overating their own.
Coin Toss you will not like this poll.

At least I wasn't the only one that voted Daicos.
What did Ablett have that Daicos didn't have? It's pretty lame if people think the difference between Ablett and Daicos was the amount of goals kicked. Back in 1990, Daics was a small playing at FF, and he managed to still kick 97 goals in that season. The only real difference is Ablett kicked more goals than Daics, but Daics was more skillful, in my opinion.

I think you are forgetting that ablett wasnt the biggest man playin a KP either. Comapared to the careys locketts etc, ablett wasnt very big. No one is doubting that daics didnt have freakish skills, but abletts ability to do it week in week out is what makes him the greater player.
*please note* ablett would have kicked more goals had he not been forceabley retired

Good on you for sticking to your guns Coin Toss. I disagree with you because I believe that Ablett was that rare footballer who had the ability to do it all. He has the strength, power, leap, skills on both sides, fast twitch fibres in his physique, goal sense and a fantastic pheriperal (curse my poor spelling!!) vision.

In my view, Daicos was a remarkable player who could do many of these things. Daicos had the vision, goal sense and foot skills as Ablett did but Daics doesn't quite have the same levels of power and strength.

Daicos was a brilliant player and I used love to watch the marvel in action. I'd probably go as far as to say he is the best Collingwood player I have seen (happy for any Pie fan to enlighten me on this one) and yes, he did give Geelong no end of trouble. But remember that during Daics' career, the Geelong defence was hardly one of the best in the league, in fact our lack of defensive capabilities during the nineties probably cost us a premiership, and in the 80's we were well known as being consistently inconsistent.

Also remember that Ablett only went to full forward at an age that many blokes were hanging up the boots and he still managed to bag three consecutive Coleman medals. Ablett played all over the ground and still managed to kick over 1000 goals. 1000 goals. The only non career full forward to achieve the feat, only Daics and Lethal or Hungry comes close.

To me Ablett was the ultimate footballer, as Daicos probably is to you. What Cat fan doesn't idolise Ablett? What Pies fan doesn't idolise Daicos?
We'll just have to agree to disagree with this one (I didn't agree to that) but let the votes of non Cats and Pies tell the story.

Cheers.

To compare Daics to Ablett is an insult to the the name of football.
They were both goalkickers, that was their job. The meaning of goalkicker is the ability to kick goals and Daicos did that better than anyone, EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME. Daicos will rein as the greatest goalkicker in the game of AFL Football

You collingwood ******** heads give collingwood ******** heads a bad name.

Coin Toss: On the one hand you say Daics always kicked more goals than Ablett when the teams met, then you say later it is not about how many goals are kick.

Dids: You say it is all about kicking goals and Ablett was the best at it which makes him the best ever - yet if it isall about kicking goals and he is the best ever why couldn't he kick a 100.

Daicos was great, may even scrape into the top 25 ever (but probably not). Ablett is clearly the second best player ever.

Ahh. Thought for a moment this was Daics against Junior but no.
Daicos was a legend , an absolute craftsman of the game and my favourite all time player but even I would have to take G Ablett.
It is with great reluctance that I say so but whilst jimmy was legendary , Ablett was unstoppable.

Peter Daicos was a champion, Gary Ablett was a legend!
