Peter Jonas - Kicking Coach

Over the past couple of pre seasons I saw him working one on one with a number of players, most notable Dangerfield, on their kicking so it's good to see his role expand in to an official one.

Bit of a worry actually.

Appointing a goal kicking coach is only part of the process. He kinda needs to be capable of improving them as well.

Sorry - that was more what I meant. Is anyone aware of his ability to coach good kicking?
Camporeale was a great exponent of kicking the football , much better than Viney and Bickley. I would rather a midfield coach who knew how to kick a ball really well than one that didnt. Bicks and Viney had unusual ball drops

Is anyone else disturbed by us promoting a goal kicking coach from in house from a team which has utterly failed to improve our players kicking thus far, and in some situations actually made it worse?

That's what I thought as well, but then I also wanted Jonas sacked as Centrals coach at the end of the 1999 season. I was proven wrong then and I hope I'm proven wrong again.

Yes a little.

Hence my questions on his abilities in that area.

We seem to be very much the martyrs at time - as in oh woe as us its so hard to attract players/coaches etc from outside the club to come to Adelaide - so lets just appoint people already involved.

Hard to say without being involved, but trade philosophy used to reflect that view and continually reappointing internally sends me a similar message.

Let's hope he is good at it!

Definately appears to be a game of musical chairs going on. Just waiting for them to announce Alan Stewart as the new high peformance coach.;)

I think the main benefit come from there now being a dedicated resource focussing on this going forward. The fact is we haven't had anyone in that capacity in the past, so it's pointless making statements suggesting we've 'utterly failed to improve out players kicking thus far', when we haven't shown this level of commitment to improving this aspect of our players skills in he past.

As long as Jonas is qualified on this front (ie has / knows the best techniques - and I have NFI if that's the case), then thumbs up to the club as far as Im concerned.

Obviously the main concern is the improvement of Tippett, but maybe he can teach Symes to kick with a lower arc as well!

Also wouldn't mind seeing a few of the more accomplished players develop the capability of unleashing a torp every now and then.

A mate of mine suggested that the Crows should look into getting someone like Paul Salmon to work with Tippet in regards to his kicking. It's got to be a bit different trying to kick it when you're 6'7.
