Mmmm... these two stood out to me as the real sliders.

Why would Port take Meyer ahead of Monfries?
Reality is their veru even - judgement call, one has to miss out.
I would be very happy with either.

Some intersting points in his draft. He has :

Redden at 64
Eckermann at 40
Grundy at 28
Monfries at 17
Juniper isn't there....

I rate Burgan, he seems to know his stuff, and the mere fact that he has pulled some surprises in his phantom draft (different to what I was expecting anyway) suggests that there are going to be some BIG surprises come Saturday morning.

I agree, the thing with Burgan is his draft is usually the best there is.

if we say player x goes first round and he says the clubs are thinking 4th round... guess who is likely wrong.
we'll come one here after abd make a big deal about how we know more than the recruiters, because we once had a pint with a bloke who went to school with player X's brother.

Chaplin was the slider. No one figured he'd be outside of the top ten.

I think the interesting point that it raises is that all the talk is about SA players going very high for various reasons, not the least of which is that many of us have seen them play a fair bit compared to interstate players. But for every South Australian we rate, there is a victorian kid, a WA kid and so on. We put the SA players first cos we know them, but in a line ball decision it could very easily go the other way. If enough line ball decision go that way, you will invariably see highly rated players slip to the 2nd and 3rd rounds. So, its not inconceivable to think we'll get Grundy and Eckermann, although it does seem strange to think that neither the crows at 24 or 28 or Port at 11, 19, 34 or 35 would take Eckermann, let alone the other 14 clubs.

I think this just shows us that Nobody Knows. This is a game of subtle distractions and confusions, teams trying to drive up the price of some players (Tom Williams?) while driving down the value of others (Jarred Moore?). No-one is going to truly show their cards until Saturday.

Burgan's AFL Phantom Draft is normally great - but, hey - he has fallen for the confusions as often as anybody else. For evidence I offer Surjan, David Kellett, Will Geyfer ...

For me? There is a mix of players, and as long as we get some version of them, I'd be happy. I don't know enough to know definitively, but this is gauged from our needs (everything), relative value and what I've read from the sources.

PICK EIGHT - Wood, Monfries. Perhaps Williams, Bate or Eckermann.
PICKS 20-ish - Grundy, Eckermann, Russell, Meyer, Hartlett, Redden, Maric.
PICKS 40 & 56 - Polo, Redden, Juniper, Moore, Neaves, Pearce, McLeay, Rusling.

I think Stevens will be delisted, and I think we will use the PSD.

For PSD and rookies, I hope we look at Fisher, Stribling, McMahon, Batchelor, Clarke, Juniper, Brad Moran or Marty Corrie.

Nice assessment.

By the way, do you reckon that Fantasia & Co. are secretly hoping that one of Wood or Monfries have gone by pick 8, so as to make their decision 'easier'? :D

Nope. They would have worked out who they will definitely take if both were there, as it is a likely scenario.

Actually, hold on a minute. I've just worked out how they should decide on pick 8...just do what all blokes do when they can't decide on the best candidate......

just pick the one with the biggest ****!

Sorry girls. I am seriously, only kidding. :o

Best vertical leap:
Best skin fold ratio:
Biggest Man Boobs:

Seriously, though, as Mad Dog said above, I think things were starting to get pretty tense around here (re: tomorrow's draft) and who we should pick or we should'n't pick, etc, etc. I'm not suggesting we end the debates, woz' just trying to inject some humour (albeit of the gutter variety).

Rock 'n' Roll...

a good approach to such an even and deep draft ! to group the players into ranges

this is certainly going to be a most intriguing draft - oh for a live telecast!!

has anyone else seen the alternative draft profiles
at http://puntroadend.com/yabbse/index...d&topic=10655.0
its a very good read if nothing else

and an extract from it for those of us who wondered how Burgan had us picking Mark Le Cras with pick 24:

- Mark Le Cras - highly rated in WA......If only he kicked to his teammates occassionally. He has two kicks. The high, looping, floating one. And the one which he really gets under.

no wonder we want him - he fits into our midfield disposal experts superbly :D

I want to put this in writing NOW. If the Crows miss out on the chance to secure Tom Rischbieth (sturt) late in the upcoming draft and Port steal him, I will personally go to West Lakes and Nuke the place (provided of course I can get a nuke, transport etc..)
For those who haven't heard me say this before:
Tom is about 6 foot 2, solid build, great footy brain and has strong hands. He has played some U17 this season, but mainly school footy (where he proved himself to be a much better player than Bennett Copping who is from the same school). Tom plays a lot of his footy in a KP at the moment but this is not where I see him in the future.
The key with Tom is that apart from good skills and decision making, he is a running machine. He is the state school boys 5000m champion, cross country champion and 3000 m champion. In the last two nights he also broke a 10 year old record for the fastest time on the Weir run in preseason training with Sturt seniors. This prompted more than a little interest from one of the Port scouts watching!
How good would it be to have a tall, strong, run all day midfielder who makes good decisions in the Crows future?
And for those cynical types, NO I am not his father, NO I am not related or a friend. I am a Crows fan who wants to see another Johncock type steal on Saturday!!

I'm not for one minute doubting your judgement DJ, but i haven't seen this kid mentioned once before now (FYI, over 130 possible draftees are mentioned at footydraft.com).

If he's as good as what you say he is, maybe he is still under-aged or something and cannot nominate for this year's draft. Just a thought?

Otherwise, then yes, he sounds pretty OK.

noooo the link doesnt work !@@

I know it's one out of the box, but then not many of us (me included) had heard of Johncock before either. To tell you the truth I'm not even sure Rischbieth has nominated, but I hope so.
The reason no-one else has mentioned him is because he played so little U17 footy. I can tell you this however, in the U17 prelim final, Tom played CHF against South Adelaide and literally tore them apart (bugger!). South senior coach Robert Pyman (who did scouting for Collingwood) marked him then as clearly the best player out there and, not knowing his running ability, as a player who is capable of AFL.
I guess I can only hope it's one of those ones Alan Stewart hides close to his chest and stuns everyone with later. I really hope we don't go through the Fantasia model of ignoring a player until he has a breakout season and then gets picked up before we have a pick the next year (Pavlich/Griffen anyone?)
Oh and he is old enough to nimonate, I'm just not sure if he did. Any way of checking?
