It's no advantage.

WCE won't care.

If North can knock back 3x first rounders for pick 1 when they drafted JHF, WCE will do the same for Reid.

They are under zero obligation to trade pick 1, despite this unsubstantiated BS about Reid refusing to go West.

Worst case scenario they take him, he wants to leave after 1 year and they auction him off for more picks next year in a midfield heavy top 10.
Kudos to the Eagles if they do.

We all would respect that move, gutsy.

It wasn’t 3 first rounders.

Of course it's a bit misleading because it's really swapping 1 & 4 and receiving 2 others.

Mind you, people in this thread seem to think 2 and Port's first are 2 first rounders and can't get their heads around the fact that that particular offer is just offering Port's first for Eagles promising not to take Reid with pick 1, for some reason.

Adelaide were wanting our second round pick back in the trade. It literally says it in the article you just linked. It basically cancelled out Melbourne’s future 1st in the deal to a minor pick upgrade. This detail seems to be left out consistently when people bring up the 3 first round pick offer. When you actually break the Adelaide offer down, it wasn’t that great and definitely wasn’t a straight up offer of 3 first round picks.

It's a gutsy move to take the best rated player at the no.1 pick?

Ok....
It seems you’re a bit of a touchy fellow.

Just to add my two cents to this one - I think if you look at what those picks turned into, Adelaide would be pretty happy the trade wasn’t accepted.

There’s risk both ways in those situations.

I agree wholeheartedly, Adelaide would be very happy. North would also be happy a year later having Sheezel and Wardlaw.

It’s just irritating when people reel out the ‘North should have taken the three 1st rounder’s’ that were apparently offered and they clearly weren’t.

Yeah, you can only ever say the offer was two firsts and a bit.

All in all:
Adelaide happy.
North happy.
Port happy.
GWS - we will see what Cadman becomes.

North would still have been able to get Sheezel and Wardlaw if we'd taken Adelaide's offer. It would have been a simpler three way trade with WC and GWS. We would also have Rachelle instead of Ports pick this year.

Adelaide says no.

That could be right, but unfortunately our list is so imbalanced that we need to take at least two and preferably three talls this draft. I suspect we will trade down one of those picks to take one of Curtin/O'Sullivan/Caddy.
My issue is he just doesnt look like a KPD. If he is he aint playing for 2 years. Easily outbodied by midfielders never mind AFL forwards. I think he is that 3rd tall Sicily type

Many elite KPD get out bodied constantly as young players, both before and after they join the AFL. Alex Rance being a prime example.

I haven't seen enough Curtin, but based on what i have seen I feel like if everything goes well for him he becomes the massive mid WC are crying out for. That doesn't mean you necessarily gamble on him though.

No chance he becomes a mid. Not fast enough to be outside and not tough enough to be inside.

Id be staggered if he isnt a 3rd tall Sicilyy type defender

Most great players end up with attributes they haven't fully got as 17 year olds. I don't think it is right to say there is no chance he ends up strong enough to be weitering or bont. I am still hoping if my club has Curtin and Duursma on the board we take Duursma though, so that probably says something.

That's a bad thing?

Sicily is an incredible player. I'd be over the moon if the worst case scenario is drafting the next Sicily.

How does he compare for speed or toughness compared to Bont as an under ager?

Bont wasn't overly quick and certainly wasn't a tough inside player. What he did have was mint skills, size and elite footy IQ, which DC has.

Bont is a freak and once in a generation player so its not really a fair comparison at all.

Curtin will be a okay enough player. Just not a pick 2 OR a KPD. Nothing wrong with a good 3rd tall defender but be honest with what he is and stop pretending he is going to be one of the best footballers in recent memory because he is left footed and a weird height

North would have jumped at that offer if JHF made it clear to North he didn't want to leave SA...
Cool.

Maybe they just didn't do their homework, or were overridden by people at the top, hence the recruiters walking out?

Isn't the rumour that the recruiters wanted to take Adelaide's offer but the people in charge at the club wanted to use pick 1 and plug it as the future hope of the club?

Curious to see if WCE do their homework on Harley, or adopt your tactic:
