You guys should be happy with getting something for Hudson. If he falls in the psd no-one will pick him up except for the bulldogs. All he has to do is state he wants a 3 yr deal for over $1mil and no other club will touch him.

your probably right then again its not like richmond or carlton have ever been wildly irresponsible in giving out contracts hey.

i dont know much about the upcoming draftees.
but im assuming that cyril rioli isnt dean rioli's fat cousin

.Think M.Rioli & M. Long.... he will be a gun.I would love to see him at the Crows as he would fit beautifully into our forward line and after a few years the midfield.

While he was at the draft camp, I don't think he participated due to injury.

He'll go close to sliding down to 10 IMO, but if he doesn't I'd be happy to pocket Cyril Rioli.
I reckon you could be right about Ebert. Not sure why but I get the feeling that he could slide down the order at bit and hopefully to 10. Didn't have breath-taking champs and I potentially see him as the one slipping down.

I want us to draft a midfielder with pick 10 as those seem to be the safest picks. One think I am certain I wouldn't be doing is picking up a key defender that early. They hardly ever work out!

the only carlton player the crows would even think twice about would be gibbs.

Russell is out of the picture... especially for pick 10. wishful thinking there from a carlton fan.

i think ebert could slip down to us at pick 10.

could be a similar story to that of sellar. as sellar was dubbed as a number 2 pick for a while there during 06.

regardless who the crows get the guy won't get a game for 2 years get sick of it and want to leave.....the crows have a great track record with their top draft picks.Better off trading pick 10 for 3-4 second/third round picks they may ars* picking up a good player.

lol. yea we don't have the best track record with top draft picks.

Brad Ebert has osteitis pubis. While its only minor, how old is he, 18??? A lot of clubs will view OP as a major drawback, I wonder if we'd pick him over rioli if he was still available. Imagine throwing away a mid range 1st round draft pick on a guy who has got an injury that could affect him all his career (think Welshy).

Unless I heard more positive news about his OP I wouldn't take him. Leave him for Port at pick 16 so he can be with his cuz.

I'm on the Vezpremi bandwagon...Vic Crow sees a ALOT of TAC cup footy and I respect his footy knowledge highly...I seriously reckon the AFC should get Vic Crow to do some scouting in Melbourne for us.

Our only problem about first round picks is that we have wasted them on talls in a hope of finding that saviour. Midfielders have a much better record of success and I am sure that if we do pick a midfielder that he will turn out to be a good player. Maybe not and out and out superstar, but a good player that will play games in his first 2 years.

Pick a tall and I think we will piss it into the wind again :(

Hawthorn took Hodge even though he had a pretty severe case of OP. I doubt they regret their decision.

OP is treatable and managable injury. Its not a career threatening injury, especially in this day and age.

I have faith in the club picking the best player.

And Stiffy18 how many talls from lower range draft picks end up being superstar successes? I mean looking at the superstar forwards of the comp in Brown, Fevola, Riedvwolt, Pavlich, Franklin, Lucas and Lloyd only Fevola came from a non top 5 draft pick (Except for f/s Brown).

In reality no fail KPP's are incredibly hard to find when you slip below the top 5 in the draft and even if you do have those picks there are more than a few failure stories (Walsh, McDougall etc.)

i think that you just validated Stiffy's argument:
- we dont have a top 5 pick and and those past selections we made IMO were not for the next best available player but rather the best tall and as Stiffy says thats a large part of the reason for our lack of 1st round drafting success
from memory, i think that the year we drafted Meesen, there was a long discussion on here about the merits of using pick 8 for either a tall (Meesen/Wood) or a midfielder

True.

But i was extending on another common theme on this board the constant bitching that we're unable to recruit superstar key forwards, I was merely pointing out we've hardly had the means to do so. But Stiffy is right, we should always go for the best avaliable in the first round which I think is what we have been doing since Craig took over despite Meesen's failure.

And if i recall correctly most not advocating WOod or Meesen wanted Monfries and while he's been decent for a third year midfielder he's hardly set the world on fire ...

Yes - a midfielder. We have enough talls to develop already - Maric, Griffin, Tippett, Sellar & Walker ( who I am anticipating we will pick up with our last draft pick) and we have five years of Gill and Hentschell still to go.

How about Sam Jacobs Woodville West Torrens Ruckman drafted by Carlton last year . The Crows need a good ruckman they surely can not rely on Biglands after a knee reconstruction to be the number 1 ruckman!!

I think we should definitely go short with our first pick and if possible local, this way I think we are pretty much assured of getting a good player who won't want to go anywhere. Then we can look at going a touch taller with our second round picks if we have a few which will hopefully be the case.

According to the scribes - the best local is Ebert who is a good chance of being gone by Pick 10. So who do we pick then if it has to be a local?

He's rookie listed.

How is he going at carlton anyways? Any chance he may get delisted? I mean they are getting kreuzer and already have hampson and have bi raps on o'halpin the 2nd (also on rookie list). If jacobs gets delisted we should pick him up either on our rookie list or re-draft him depending on how he is going.

We don't select a local at pick 10 if Ebert is gone.

The next best SA lad is Greenwood, and he's not even close to pick 10. I've been told around the pick 30 range is his value.
