I think Hill is a great option, with the only real question being "is he our best option". Some posters sound a bit like they think there could/should be a line through his name because of his height, but that certainly would not be the case. I do feel a little urgency to build midfield power and still think we need another inside mid. Stocker works for me, but perhaps the recruiters think we can find his type a bit later.

Not sure what the hang up is on Ian Hill and his height. He's a small forward who is quick, creative and loves a goal! Sounds like a perfect pick up to me. He doesn't need midfield minutes to be relevant. I can see him flourishing at the feet of Hogan, Lobb, Taberner etc..

I agree with that, I have not put a line through him but at the same time I am not sure we should get him at pick 14 (Probably pick 17).

Sam Sturt is the player I hoping we get.

If you 175cm's you will struggle to play midfield, you are more than likely a liability 1v1 and will not be a marking target.

They are big limitations, you need to weigh them up vs other players available at 16 or 17.

Eh, you make 175cm sound like 165cm. Plenty of good players under 180cm running around. if you have speed, agility and nous and you're playing as a fwd pocket or outside mid it's not really an issue imo. I think you're just heightist

haha - at 175cm's you have limitations and there may be better players available at pick 14 to take instead of him. If he was there at pick 30, I would be happy to take him.

The number of players down below the 175 cm area who are not inside midfielders or small forwards is very small (we already have one: Stef Giro). Hill is not a small forward at this point and you don't spend first round picks on players playing one position in juniors on the assumption they will excel at another in seniors. If we draft Hill it will be primarily as an outside midfielder. My generic concern (generic as all I have seen is one highlight reel) is not so much his height but the weight he is for that height. 66 kg is very light and it doesn't look like he has the frame to be doing a Fyfe. Quite the opposite: Hard to imagine he's going to be able to get close the old height minus 100 rule. Imagine Brad Hill's stature but 6 cm shorter.

When you have deficiencies like that the club would be needing to see he had the potential to be elite in other areas that made up for it. Just speed won't enough.

To be clear I'm not saying we shouldn't take him. As I said I'm talking generically. Hopefully out there in the real world we have successfully draft tampered and are about to get a Freo Hall of Famer for peanuts.

Ian Hill has always played as a small forward. He just rotates into the middle like most good small forwards do (eg how we use Walters).

Have the people that are questioning him actually watched him play? His height has zero relevance. He has really good skills, he is the fastest player in the draft pool, his agility would either be best or top 5, and he knows how to kick a goal (12 goals in 7 games at Colts this year).

He took one of the marks of the year, and he laid a bone crunching tackle that got him suspended in u18s this year. He's coming off injuries and people are well and truly over exaggerating how poorly he performed this year. He was still one of WA's best players in every game, and WA were far from bad.

Twomey has him at 76 kg now

I don’t necessarily discount the info on that site, but it is leaning heavily on games played, which while useful doesn’t necessarily indicate value.
I mean is there anything in the thought that clubs gift games to some high picks hoping they get better, thus skewing the average?
look at the percentage of AA per pick.

Exciting Perth Demons product Ian Hill shapes as the perfect selection for Fremantle with pick 14, according to AFL.com.au draft expert Callum Twomey.

Last year Call was banging on about us taking Jarrod Brander with our first pick right up to about a week or so before the draft. If Ian is such a perfect pick for us at 14 he won't be there at 14 period. GWS, Adelaide and Geelong I would think are looking at him, even GCS.

If Jack Higgins can get to pick 17, so can Hill.
