It looks for certain we will have the number 2,18,20 draft pick, who are will likely to get. My opinion we need a CHB, 2 more midfielders and another ruckmen maybe in the pre - season draft.

1st pick - best available CHB or midfielder (Hansen or Gibbs)
2nd pick - ruckman
3rd pick - depending on whether we picked a CHB or midfielder with our first pick, we select the opposite.

After this we just go for best available, however, I think we should shy away from tall forwards for the next 2-3 drafts. We already have enough young tall forwards, smalls on the other hand we should be on the look out for.

I think we need to take the following:

pick 2: Hansen
18:O'Brien
20: Renouf
3rd round: Moss
4th round: Tim Houlihan

With those picks we get our CHB, we get a ruckman, and 3 other midfielders. A good mix of players, in a very realistic situation. I would be very disappointed if we had the opportunity to pick these players but we didn't actually pick them.

Pick 2 - Hansen or Gibbs
Pick 17 - Leroy Jetta
Pick 19 - Proud

and maybe trade a 4th round draft pick for Michael Gardiner i think he is worth punt and also go after Graham Polak.

Good luck with that Louie, i think you're going to need it.

This call for ruckmen, sure we need another couple developing, but I keep asking the same question of people, with a straight face, tell me which ruckmen you think are inthe 20 best players (other than Leuey).

Tim Houlihan ? anything to do with Ryan ?

we will have picks 18 and 20, not 17 and 19. Proud, as much as I would love him to be, will not be around at pick 19, and probably will be gone by our 2nd pick. Jetta may not even be there at that stage either.

If we go after either Gardiner or Polak, let alone both, I will hand in my membership immediately. Gardiner is 1)too old for us and 2)not they type of person we need around our young players. Polak hasnt proven himself yet, and if he is let go by Freo, I wouldn't go near him, and I hope that the club will think along the same lines.

That's a fair summary AFAIC. Keep in mind that pick 18 is our priority pick, and that pick 20 is our 2nd round pick. Pick 36 is our third round pick - and the one we'd trade for a father-son selection. It sounds like all three FS candidates are on-baller types, so maybe we'll get one via this avenue.

Pick 2 - Gibbs/Hansen

Pick 18 - Proud/Jetta/Collard/O'brian (one is bound to slip through)

Pick 20 - Andrejs Everitt/ Nathan Brown (AA Full Back - HANDY !)

Pick 36 - Renouf (if available)

I think Mojo had him as a late first rounder, even Kevin Sheahan had him pegged as a possible first rounder (said it while he was commentating the Vic game). But i have no doubt he'll slip to our pick 18/20.

Pick 2 - Hansen (Whitnall isn't the answer at CHB!)
Pick 18 - desperately need more run and skill from types such Schmidt/O'Brien/Conners or a Leuenberger if he falls
Pick 20 - Conners/Schmidt/O'Brien - same again and no Houli
Pick 20-30 from trades and this has to be done but the club is too stupid not to! - more midfielders or Renouf
Pick 36 - same

if we go the other way

Pick 2 - Gibbs
Pick 18 - Everitt/Reid
Pick 20 - more run and skill and no Houli
Pick 20-35 - Renouf or quick midfielders
Pick 36 - same

Confident of coming 15th?

I'll be updating my best available draft list this weekend, then after the draft camp, for those interested.

Do people want VFL, SANFL and WAFL guys listed who could possibly be a shot as well? Probably on a seperate list.

Essendon has 2-3 possible games they can snag in the next few rounds if they play the way they did against us and StKilda; Hawthorn, Brisbane, Richmond.

We probably have 2-3 we can win as well against Hawthorn, Richmond, Fremantle (if they don't turn up).

I would not put my money on pick 2.

Eg we could end up last! Essendon or us could win another 3 even, Hawthorn might not win another and Hawthorn might get the spoon?

Who knows in 3 weeks I think we'll have a better indication of which pick we'll get.

National Draft
Best case scenario.
2. Gibbs- will be the final piece of our rebuilding midfield.
18.Nathan Brown- we will select the AA fullback if he is still availible.
20.Best availible mid with good speed and skills. There will be a couple of highly rated mids fall.
36.Look at either a developing ruck or my preferance is to trade the selection for a ruckman already listed. Fabian Deluca should be targeted. We would have to take into consideration the depth of this years draft and the sacrifice for Deluca. Port may need to trade a late draft pick to us aswell.

Second Scenario
2.Hansen
18.Best Mid
20.Best Mid
36.As above
The rest of our selections would be best player possible.

Much of this is based on us going after F.Deluca, which we may be able to get through the PSD. I would prefer to use the PSD for a more senior player as I think there will be a few up for grabs this year.
No F/S selections either, up to date Sheldon could do with another year at TAC level.

F Deluca has resigned with Port, me may be able to go after Meeson or Cameron Wood tho.

I reckon it's a bit early for speculation on draft picks given that the draft camp is going to throw us a number of bolters.

Having said that I agree with your point on our potential father/son selections. None are of a level that warrant anything near a 3rd round pick at this point, particularly in this draft. Unless the club promised Tomi a F/S pick last year for not nominating, I can't see us taking Tomi in the main draft. He has been down the club for a number of medicals this year so that's a possibility. I suspect Sam Sheldon will be asked a similar thing.

Ken is on SEN today on "The Run Home" so we might get an idea. Let me know if anyone tunes into that.

Your point on Draft Camp is true, and I think if Sellar grows to 200cm it could change the landscape for the top 5. Plus not to mention players that hit form late in the year and have a great draft camp.
I know last year I had Ellis at 2, with Thomas and Pendlebury further down the order around the 8-12 mark.
