i see the Addy is running a story about "fans" going off at Geelong for taking pick 39...I still dont understand what else they could do - Melbourne have said they couldnt afford him, so it was either Pick 39 or nothing.

Anyway, on to the main point of my post - got some names for you:

Corey Enright
Paul Chapman
Darren Milburn
Mathew Stokes
Max Rooke
Cameron Ling (38)
Josh Hunt
Tom Harley (trade for Pick 37)
Ryan Gamble
Matthew Egan

May have cheated slightly by putting Ling and Harley in there, but hopefully my point is made - a good solid senior player can still come from that part of the draft. All of those players were no earlier than pick 37.

Get behind your club and have faith in what they do.

MY concern isnt that they can find a good player at that pick its what the pick is used for ie was it a live pick or a pick for Ranga. I mean Ranga will be good so thats all good but I would prefer to have Ranga at a later pick and use pick 39 on some fresh talent. Somehow. Not sure how yet.

As i said, we just have to have faith, Wells and co have had a dam good track record the last few years and they deserve to have our backing.

All the people p***ing and moaning about how pathetic Geelong were for caving in to Essendon and taking just pick 39 for Prissa would have been the first people on this board screaming about how dumb Geelong were, if the admin had cut off their noses to spite their faces and let Prissa go for nothing in the PSD!
I can see it now..."We shoulda got SOMETHING for him!!! I'm tearing up my ****ing membership!"

Exactly - instead, we have the chance to get the next Milburn/Chapman/Egan...

Who do we delist to get any use out of it though? I believe we have 3 spots available & 4 picks. Our last pick being used on Ranga which is locked in.
Unless we delist someone the pick won't be used anyway, so in essence we gave him for free anyway.

I'm pretty sure that D.Johnson is out of contract this year and would seem the likely choice for de-listing.
That would allow us to draft 3 players plus Ranga.

David Johnson is contracted for 2009 - he signed a two year deal at the end of 2007 - so can't be delisted.

what's with all the 2 year deals for fringe players like Johnson and Tenace and Byrnes?

Why would you sign a player up for more than a 1 year deal if that player is not tradable?

"DEPTH"

They're not perfect players but they do play a role.

But, seeing as though a crunch is coming up for the GFC in the next couple of years with the salary cap I agree with only signing Byrnes for one year.

You can probably see at least four changes at the end of next year to the list (Harley and Milburn - retired, Johnson and Tenace delisted), possibly more due to losing uncontracted players (eg. to GC17) and signing other stars within the salary cap.

Seriously that is !@#$%^ That is just stupid. What a joke. He should be first chopped yet is in the way of another young kid. As someone said what's with 2 year contracts to 'fringe' players.:thumbsd:
