Mia suffered a shoulder injury last week at training. She will now start rehab to strengthen the joint but will miss an estimated two to three weeks.
Mia will start to integrate contact training following her shoulder injury last week. Mia will have to get through training this week to be available for selection.
Van Dyke is recovering from a stress fracture but is increasing her running volume following her first run last week.
“Mia is a more long-term injury, so we will continue to work through her rehabilitation plans to see her towards the back end of the season.”
Essendon defender Mia Van Dyke has hit a key milestone in her recovery from a stress injury to her hip.
The 18-year-old will transition to full training this week and has the potential to play in the team’s scrimmage match.
Head of Medical Services Megan Smith said Van Dyke’s progress is a credit to her diligent rehab.
“It’s fantastic to see Mia back out on the track and getting amongst training again,” Smith said.
“She’s worked incredibly hard throughout her rehab to ensure every box is ticked from a medical perspective.
“Given she gets through training this week, Mia should be in line to play in this weekend’s scrimmage.”

That's horrendously bad planning on behalf of the AFL and makes it really difficult for the girls outside the 21 to break into the side. They group together with a couple of other teams to get enough players together to play some match simulation as a way of making up for the fact that there isn't any reserves football.
Remember, as far as the AFL is concerned they don't need games in the AFLW, let alone a support compThat's horrendously bad planning on behalf of the AFL and makes it really difficult for the girls outside the 21 to break into the side.
We have VFLW it just runs at a different time of year, which is the daft part. Don't even need to fund anything extra, just line it upRemember, as far as the AFL is concerned they don't need games in the AFLW, let alone a support comp
