Whats the go with the Brayshaw kid, one of the local papers reckon the lions are looking at him with there first.

The thing is with a club like Brisbane, they have to take into account "Will this player stay or will we just dump resources into another club's future star?" I'd be willing to bet that Brisbane's recruitment talks are much different then say; pies, hawks, bombers etc.

Reckon these comments in bold attributed to him yesterday may have something to do with it:

“When you sign the dotted line, you sign up for a national competition so it’s not just Melbourne, you can go interstate and I think that’s an awesome opportunity,” Brayshaw said on SEN.

About the only kid at the top end who has been publically open about embracing an interstate move. Could be a safe bet for the Lions who need a bit of luck and loyalty with their top picks.

Other Comments from the article make it easy to see how Brisbane might go down this path:

"Hailed as a future captain and 200-game star"

“He’s probably the safest bet of the lot,” one recruiter said of Brayshaw.

“He might not be as eye-catching as some of the others, but you could plonk him in the middle, know he will play well and build a team around him pretty comfortably."

“There’s a really good mix of footy, character and commitment there, so I think it would be a pretty appealing package, particularly, too, for an interstate club,” O’Connor said. "If he was lucky enough to do that (be taken No.1), I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t let them down."

OK folks simple question with two parts:

Who will we take at 6?

If every player was available (ie somehow your first choice drifted to 6) who would you take?

I think we'll take Coffield, (if he's gone it will be Naughton)

If he drifted id take Rayner.

For future need Naughton
If Darcy plays back Fogarty or Bonar
Or best one left out of the top five or Coffield

I wouldn't be unhappy with Naughton from the videos I've seen.

I reckon TradeDraft should make up a welcome thread for about ten different players and have them all ready to click go. This way he can not only be first but also avoid "more to come"!

Naughton

Dow (aka Jonesy)

Snoop's take:

Think Paddy and you think explosive. He is an inside ball winning machine and recorded something like 60% of his possessions through the year from inside the contest so is going to appeal to someone needing to improve in that area. The thing that really stands out though with Paddy is his explosiveness from the stoppage. He is fast, quick and elusive. Has Dangerfield traits and clubs will see that comparison and be drawn. Good user of the ball when on the outside and can kick a goal as well. Defensively all the data on him stacks up.

I’ve been told that it happens all the time. Players get told by clubs that they’ll get picked up at a certain pick by a club, then a player they didn’t expect to be available slides and that’s it. I do have to say though, Cox was pretty unlucky for it to happen with 3 clubs!
Only happened with 2 clubs, as the 3rd club never got the chance due to Lions already having taken him.

Ross Lyon said in 2011 he was the Best Player in the AFL
I love Daisy from the day he knocked himself out going up in the ruck in round 1 of his 1st season. Always devil am care and just went

Still he was never near best in the comp. in his best season, 2011, he would have been in the 10-20 group for the season. Just shows the power of the media. Ross Lyon, in a pre match press conference before coming up against the Pies puts a bit of acid on Collingwood by claiming Daisy the best in the comp

Ross certainly didn't believe it. Daisy tried to believe it but found himself wanting so settled for trying to be the best player at Carlton and how did that work out. If anyone else believed I have to ask why. Great urban myth.

So someone barracks for Collingwood.
All well and good.

But surely clubs barely register that as any real consideration.

I'm thinking only some supporters buy into all that.

Pick the best player you want, and let the chips fall where they do.
I reckon it could almost be a negative for clubs. Romance works in the stands not between the four walls. Once in there, as Seedy found out, having a Collingwood supporter background only leaves you a bit exposed. These guys end up hard nosed, they may play for each other but they don't play for the kid they once were.

True but seems to be working for Howe.

PS don't be so down on yourself GC, maybe edit "I reckon I" to read 'I reckon it'

Whatever happened to that anonymous Carlton supporter who said we were 95% chance of picking Brander and there was 0% chance of him dropping outside the top 10? :D

He actually had the nerve to PM me saying that I should stop trash talking (which I’ve never actually done) Brander because he’s guaranteed to be at Collingwood next year. I reckon it was his dad or something.

Thanks, good pick up.

So so strange. The only time Brander has been linked to us from what I've heard is through expectation. Collingwood need a KPP, we'll say they pick Brander. All I heard internally was we weren't considering Brander at #6 as we didn't rate him that highly/had a number of others ahead of him so since I heard that I was very confident we weren't picking him. Naughton is a safer bet for sure.

Brander I'm pretty confident at this stage drops outside the top 10. GWS at #11 probably the first to consider him IMO. But no, there's a 0% chance of him dropping there.

I don't think a kid at 18 really understands what it means to move interstate and away from family and friends.

While he may have no problem now, a couple of years down the track, that may change.

I’d be happy with either Naughton, one of the ‘super 4’ or Stephenson. Not sold on Coffield if any of the above becomes available (I’d have Fogarty before him).

It’s all a gamble anyway. Will know this time next year who got it right.

This is true, very good player and excellent finals player like Sidebum.

Yep the comment about "not drafting a Thomas" was a stupid one.

If anything nowadays you need more players who will take the game the way he did at his peak - he was definitely in the discussion for best player in the comp on form at the back end of 2010 and was clearly the best player across the two grand finals.

Just like how at the end of the 2008 season that it was proven that Freo made the right call selecting Rhys Palmer over Patrick Dangerfield, Cyril Rioli and Alex Rance.
