Considering the the Palmer Compo pick at best was only ever going to be #19 in a future draft, it isn't bad. Would have preferred to use it next year, but then there will be a couple of priority picks and then more compo picks and it would have shoved it out to #25 or more.

It gives them a better spread. Loading up in one draft is great but it would be even better to spread those picks across a few drafts especially considering this years draft is considered mediocre.

Having the core of your list born around the same time can be dangerous down the track, as we saw when Hasleby, Longmuir, Solomon, Headland, the Carrs, Hayden, etc got towards the end of their careers.

Brisbane traded Justin Sherman to the dogs for the compensation pick they received for Jarrod Harbrow. At the start of the year Brisbane had the option to decide if they wanted to use that pick this year or wait for another year, they decided to use it even though it was to come after all GWS's picks and this draft was considered weak. At best it would've been pick 26 but because of priority picks it's now pick 30.

If they decided not to activate it, this trade shows they could've traded it for pick 20 if they wanted an extra pick.

Pick 20 > Pick 30.
