At pick 6 assuming that Hurn and Ryder are still available, Dowler is not. Who would you prefer Hurn or Ryder (assuming you get Kennedy at 3)

Personally I believe we should take KPPs with the first 2 picks. Hurn doesnt fit that catagory.

As regards to Ryders, I do not believe he is tall enough to make it in the senior ranks of the AFL.

If you look at the chart below it lists the top21 players for hit outs in 2005, not necessarily the best in the league (Darcy for instance not included) the columns name, height and in some cases, weight (Source:AFL player bio) the average is 199cm. There is only 1 ruckman, Jeff White @ 195cm.

To me you need to be at least 198cm tall and preferably 200cm to be a number 1 ruckman for a club. Hawthorn has a history of recruiting or using small ruckman as no1 ruck going back years from Richard Walter, Chris Langford, Paul Dear, Greg Madigan etc let me assure you, none of these worked. Langford was a great backman and Dear a great forward but when played in the ruck, they failed. Langford in a grand final of all things, not his fault, just not tall enough.

Ryder will have to put on at least 10kg, probably 20kg to match those in the AFL. Will that weight increase decrease his leap? Will it decrease his speed? If it all goes at muscle, will it increase either leap or speed?

Personally, I hope we take the Victorian Dowler as no3. Solves our problem at FF. Our glory years have been based around 2 of the very best FF's in history. Hudson & Dunstall.

If Ryder doesn't grow, and struggles to play KP. What are everyones thoughts on playing him on a wing. Could dominate there and be impossible to match up on. Anyone else think he could play there at AFL level?

I'll hava a stab and say Ryder at 3 (maybe Kennedy) leaving Beau Dowler to slip to 6 (Kennedy won't last that long).

I want kennedy at 3 but i want dowler at six, but carlton are pretty sure of getting him at pick 4, soo that means hawthorn should go for dowler at three, and go for Ryder or Kennedy at 6!One of them would be left till number six!Soo the best thing for hawthorn to do, is go for dowler at 3 and hope for ryder or kennedy at 6!

And with picks, 14,18 and 22, hawthorn should go for midfielders,Swallow, Varcoe,Thomas,Douglas or even Oakley-Nicholls.

I'm not disagreeing with your logic, but to say the Hawks glory years were based around Hudson & Dunstall is giving far too much credit to Peter Hudson. I'm not bashing Hudson because he was the best FF I ever saw play the game. He was as close to unstoppable as anyone ever has been. If the opposition held him to 5 goals they felt that they hadn't done too bad a job. But Hudson played in one Grand Final - 1971. I'd have to say that 1971 was just about the dawn of the Hawks' glory days and Hudson was gone before breakfast.
